SUMMER 2014

PREMIER LEAGUE SCHOOLS TOURNAMENT

QUINTA

Year 7 & Year 8 girls proudly represented Cowley and Liverpool FC in the Premier League Schools Tournament earlier this year.

Wednesday, 18th to Friday, 20th June saw Cowley return to Quinta Hall for our annual Year 8 residential activities trip.

A group walk to The Tunnel of Doom saw a few students scare themselves silly through a very long, dark canal tunnel.

This year, 164 students, staff and helpers attended, making this the biggest Quinta trip to date! A packed programme saw students taking part in fun activities including: low-ropes, climbing trees, rafting, slacklining, orienteering, pool, arts and crafts, dance and drama.

Everyone had a great time and faced their own challenges, a highlight of the trip had to be Jack Dunbavin’s demonstration of grit and determination to climb half way up a tree, whilst being supported by his cheering group. This reflected the character, teamwork and spirit of the trip, with the students being a credit to Cowley.

Evenings were kept busy with a quiz and a disco; the less said about the football the better!

Special thanks has to go to the staff who give up their free time and worked so hard to make it all happen.

The weather remained sunny, which no doubt helped to put a smile (and a tan) on everyone’s faces!

We look forward to offering an even bigger and better Quinta trip next year!

The under 13s side went into the 2014 Premier League Schools Tournament finals, having been undefeated all season and without conceding a goal. Representing Liverpool FC, they unfortunately went down 2-1 in the semi-finals to eventual winners All Saints’ Catholic High, who were representing Everton FC, in the tournament at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium. Before the finals, Liverpool FC Ladies ace midfielder, Nicole Rolser visited Cowley to present the girls with their Liverpool playing kit. Over 10,000 young footballers from more than 1,300 schools took part nationwide with the teams aiming to reach the Etihad, so for Cowley to get to the finals, was a brilliant achievement. Congratulations to the team: Georgina Abbott, Ashley Beard (Capt.), Chloe Billing, Megan Mercer, Katie Edington, Grace McCarthy, Millie McCarthy and Jess Smith.

SKI TRIP TO ANDORRA Cowley is running a ski trip to Andorra at Easter 2015. The cost is £670 and there is still room! If you are interested, see Mr Healey.

FOOTWEAR FOR COLLEGE

We believe that all students should attend College smartly dressed in a distinctive way and we expect all our students to correctly wear clothes and shoes specified in our Uniform Policy. The College approved dress code, as detailed in the College Uniform Policy, should be followed at all times when in College or when representing the College. Adhering to a smart dress code symbolises good standards, prepares young people for the world of work and allows them to recognise the need for appropriate dress.

On Monday, 16th June, three very excited Year 7 students got up early and met Mr Sheeran and Ms Gwynn to fly down to London for the day. The three students, Cherrie Cummings, Owen Hudson-Unsworth and Olivia Mason-Lawlor, had got through to the finals of a national eco competition to design a product which would reduce the amount of plastic waste. The students had redesigned toy packaging so that it was 100% recyclable. The awards ceremony was held at the Houses of Parliament and the students were taken for a tour - they were lucky enough to actually go into the House of Commons chambers! As part of the competition, the students had to present their ideas to a panel of judges made up of MPs and experts from industry. Their presentation was delivered confidently and was well received: the group came second in a very close vote. Mr Sheeran said: “The students were simply outstanding, we are very proud of their achievements. Very well done!”
