HOCKEY Year 8 v Archbishop Blanch The game started with a quick steal of the ball by Sasha Hornby and that set the tone for the rest of the match. Cowley had almost all of the play in the first half with some great attacking runs down the right hand side by Ella Murphy who linked nicely with Beth Shepherd - the scorer of the first goal. Shortly after, Sasha found the back of the net to make the score 2-0. The second half saw Cowley on the attack again with some great shots from Lucy Robinson. The final score was 2-0 to Cowley. Player of the match - Sasha Hornby (for putting the defenders under pressure). U16s v Archbishop Blanch The U16s faced an extremely strong Blanch side for their first game of the season. Despite their commitment to training and their endeavour to score throughout the game, they were unable to break down a strong Blanch defence. Once the ball was turned over and Archbishop began their attack, they were clinical in front of goal, coming away with a 7-0 victory. Year 8 v St . Mary’s Cowley could not have wished for a better start, thanks to a great run down the wing from Ella Murphy who then passed the ball into the shooting circle allowing Sadie Atherton to find the back of the net in just 45 seconds. A few minutes later, Sadie scored a tremendous hat trick. During the second half, the girls continued to outplay their opponents and further goals came from Lucy Robinson and Alex Hewitt. Any breaks by the opposition were quickly stopped by our fantastic defenders - Kelsey Hull and Laura Rainford. Player of the match - Sadie Atherton. Congratulations to Ellie Evan, for making her debut in goal for the U16s. Congratulations to Kelsey Hull, Ella Murphy, Laura Rainford and Lucy Robinson, who have been selected to take part in a Junior Development Centre (JDC), run by England Hockey. The girls, if selected, will move through to a regional development centre. This provides the initial stepping stone into playing for England and Great Britain.

YEAR 7 RUGBY GIFTED AND TALENTED DAY AT LSH RUGBY CLUB

The Year 7 Rugby Gifted and Talented day was held at LSH on a cold and windy October day. Despite the weather, 30 Year 7 pupils worked hard to improve their core rugby skills. Organised by Mr Evans and led by community rugby coach John Foster, the day focused

upon the contact situation, giving players the confidence to take the ball into a tackle and to retain possession. The day was rounded off in fine style with a Round Robin competition on Hard Lane fields, where the rugby boys could put their newly acquired skills into practice with Mr Gordon.

Finally, congratulations to Callum Kinder (11R) who has perfected the art of the ‘Happy Gilmore’ shot.

MALAYSIA CRICKET TOUR 2013 Plans for the trip are progress-

ing well. A final list of tour participants includes 16 students from Year 8 to Year 13. Flight times have been confirmed with Emirates Airlines: Departing Manchester at 13.30 on 26th March, arriving back on 8th April at 07.55. We’ve already raised over £1000 towards the tour and a musical evening is planned shortly.

James Tilley. The players ran several legs with the students, encouraging the participants to go as fast as they could to achieve the record. This was a fantastic achievement by all pupils that were involved and to anyone who donated to two worthy causes. For more information and pictures check out www.saintsrlfc.com.

FOOTBALL The team got off to a good start by putting a strong performance in front of a good home crowd in very wet conditions. 17 lads featured in the game and goals from James Griffin and James Gregory mirrored a very good effort indeed. Man of the Match was David Collum Marsh, for his high solid tackling and overall energy shown throughout the game.
