FAMAGUSTA REGION L o c a l - C o m m u n i t y - N e w s - E v e n t s - P e o p l e An English Afternoon Tea Raising Funds for Cyprus Cats Christine and Gary Barlow from Blackpool have been holidaying in the Protaras area for over 14 years, recently visiting several times a year. During the last couple of years, they have been involved in the tremendous work for the Famagusta Cat Care Project. They originally bought food and fed several colonies during their holiday to give the volunteers a much needed break. This became their passion and they started to raise funds for the neutering programme which is vitally important to reduce the vast number of strays, resulting in happier, healthier cats. To boost funds, Christine decided to organise a traditional English Afternoon Tea event for over 60 people. This was a massive undertaking for them, using only best china crockery, linen tablecloths and serving only homemade food. The afternoon was blessed with glorious weather and the guests were greeted with a glass of Bucks Fizz. They were then invited into the beautiful gardens to participate in the various fundraising activities which included tombola stall, raffle and many homemade gifts were on sale (cat nip toys, fudge, greetings cards, body scrubs etc) all made by personally by Christine. The guests were then invited indoors to enjoy the marvellous food. A fantastic amount of more than €1000 has been raised by the couple this year. They hope to carry on fundraising by hosting a Christmas event to include a lunch, quiz, games and raffle. There's lots of hard work ahead but they find it so satisfying and worthwhile. "It's such a fantastic feeling returning to a colony and seeing cats are still healthy and happy".
I’m a Celebrity - Get Me Out of Here On Sunday the 24th July, The Corner Pin in Kapparis held their event ‘I’m a Celebrity – Get Me Out of Here’. The event was a huge success with many strange and bizarre dishes available for the very brave contestants, Kieran, Shirley, Stella, Natalie, Diane and Sasha. The a-la-carte cuisine consisted of maggots, crickets, grubs, sea slugs, pig’s ears, sheep’s testicles, sheep’s tongue, pigs, sheep’s and bull’s penis. The day was a huge success raising a fabulous total of €720 for Paralimni Dog Pound. A fabulous and fun packed day was had by all.

Remembrance It was with great sadness that on the 5th August we said goodbye and raised our glasses in memory of Dave Clapham who passed away here in Cyprus. Dave was a very sociable man who enjoyed playing pool in the Kapparis pool league during the winter or enduring a game of bingo on a Tuesday. He was also a great lover of fish and chips on a Friday night! He will be greatly missed by family and friends. A typical friendly Yorkshire man - gone...but never forgotten! 6
Ayios Nikolaos Golf Club Charity Update, Plus First Fund Raiser of the Year Bungee Jump at Ayia Napa, Saturday 10th September 2016 Back in October 2015, members of ANGC took part in a sponsored Sky Dive from 11,000ft in aid of charity. As a result of this event and other golf functions, raffles, social evenings at Ayios Nikolaos golf club, during the 2015 / 2016 season, the golf club raised over €10,000 for charities including Kepa, Cyprus Alzheimer’s Society and The Mercian Regiment benevolent fund. A truly exceptional feat I think you’ll agree. To start this season’s charity fund raising for ANGC with be Andy’s bungee jump, the chosen charity will be Motor Neuron Disease. On Saturday 10th September at 5pm, a lone ANGC member, Mr Andy Payne will take part in a bungee jump in Ayia Napa from 200ft (not for the faint hearted). Location in Ayia Napa, behind McDonalds, just off Nissi Avenue. There will be posters and sponsorship forms held at various locations in the Kapparis area, so please find one and support this charity on behalf of ANGC by sponsoring him for the big day. If you would like to sponsor him, either fill in a form on display, or contact either myself Peter Gore, Club Captain on 99947465 or Andy himself on 99040946. Thank you to all readers who have helped in the past. Written by Peter Gore, Club Captain
Aphrodite’s Bra Chain – Guinness World Record Application The Eastern part of the island is joining Aphrodite's Bra Chain in their island wide efforts to break the Guinness World Record for the longest bra chain, whilst raising funds for the Archangel Michael Hospice in Paphos. Cyprus has already broken the Guinness World Record for the longest bra chain in 2006 and is hoping to reclaim the record again by collecting over 200,000 bras by October 2017. Whilst the funds raised will go to the hospice in Paphos, the bras themselves will be donated to charities that will repair them and send to women in developing nations. The idea came from Ruth Walton and Linda Fletcher Locke, Emma Martin from Klik Photo CY is helping to coordinate donations and collections on the Eastern end of the island. So please have a good rummage through your drawers, ladies and find all those bras that no longer fit. Collections points are updated and posted weekly on the Aphrodite’s Bra Chain Facebook site and all official collection boxes will have the poster on them. We are asking that each donation of bras comes donated with a golden coin. For more information on the campaign and the full list of collection points, please 'like' the Aphrodite's Bra Chain Facebook page or contact Ruth on 99389073 or Linda on 99562387. www.facebook.com/Aphrodites-Bra-Chain-1031572 043547105/ Daxi Information Center is also a collection point.

LARNACA REGION L o c a l - C o m m u n i t y - N e w s - E v e n t s - P e o p l e Advice from an Expert On 27th July, we went along to listen to a very interesting talk at the UKCA in Larnaca, where a large audience had gathered. St. John Coombes spoke for over an hour on the implications we might experience as expats living here in Cyprus after Brexit, the recent decision by Referendum by Britain to leave the EU. St. John started his speech by reiterating that the UK is still an EU member until the negotiations are concluded, i.e. 2 years’ time and that Cyprus, like Malta, has differences in as much as it is still part of the Commonwealth, that means that it will continue to enjoy some bilateral agreements and some old laws are still in existence. He spoke in detail about the Right of Abode for EU citizens and the implications of what is needed if the ultimate break from the EU is realised for expats in Cyprus. St. John answered individual questions concerning Permanent Residence Certificates, and MEU3s (Cyprus Visa). In some cases, the need to obtain Dual Nationality may be preferred/necessary, however, every case is different. St. John touched upon the implications of expats who work in Cyprus, how health care will be affected (especially for those who are over 65 and pensioners, there may be a possible need for private medical insurance). He spoke about Social Insurance and Pensions and how incomes will be affected if Britain will change their rules on ultimately leaving the EU. The subject of cars and car insurance was discussed and the use of the International Driving Licence in Cyprus, one can drive on a British Licence at the moment. If Britain leaves the EU, we will not have to take another test we were all relieved to hear! Exchange rates were discussed at length and St. John said that, at the moment the rate is holding steady and the Stock Market has suffered much less than first anticipated. The whole cost of Brexit to the UK is uncertain at present. He urged anybody with investments to speak to their financial advisers as personal objectives will change. St. John spoke at length about the absolute necessity of making a will here in Cyprus, as the laws of inheritance are quite different from the UK and it is imperative that everybody safeguards their assets by being sure what will happen on their death. He also reiterated that every case is different and the idea of setting up a Trust will be of benefit to many expats as it ensures future ownership of their assets. Advice can be obtained from Cypriot lawyers and UK lawyers. Some of the benefits of setting up a trust are that it will work well with properties in Cyprus, as it guarantees succession, no probate fees are involved and there is no waiting involved. He has asked that anybody with any other queries should get in touch with their financial advisers or EWMT to arrange a meeting for further help: St.John Coombes BA Hons Cert PFS FAIQ, Director EWMT (Eurowealth Management and Trustees Ltd) Email: infro@ewmt.comcy, Web: www.ewmt.comcy, Tel: 00357 25 344 888
A Musical Morning I recently went along to a coffee morning with a difference! On behalf of the U3A Larnaca, Geoff and Jan Penn had organised a musical quiz at the home of Margaret and Tony Gross to raise money for the Oncology Unit in Nicosia. We settled down to take part in the musical quiz which featured excerpts from popular songs from the 1930s onwards. Although some of us are much too young to remember those times we somehow managed to fill in something for each question! We certainly tried to rack our brains for the more obscure songs from different eras! Fuelled by some delicious refreshments, we all thoroughly enjoyed our musical morning and a grand total of â‚Ź272 was raised for the Oncology Unit. A worthy amount from a well-organised event. Thanks again to Geoff, Jan, Margaret, Tony and all those who took part. Written by Helen Barrett 10
Message from the High Commissioner to Daxi Readers As you know, the British people voted on 23 June 2016 to leave the European Union. The government will now negotiate new arrangements with the EU including on issues affecting British nationals living and travelling abroad. I know that British residents of Cyprus will be concerned about what the referendum result may mean for them. I would therefore like to set out briefly the process over coming months and where you can go for further information on the issues involved. The negotiations to leave the EU may take up to 2 years or more. The Government of course wants to ensure the best possible outcome for Britain and the future UK-EU relationship. The Prime Minister has indicated that negotiations will not start before the end of 2016, allowing the government time to plan its negotiating strategy and get relevant structures in place.
Nea Genia Dance Club This popular Dance Club was founded in 1991 in Oroklini. At its special 25th anniversary show on 13th July, approx 1000 people went along to join in the celebrations, everyone agreed it was a memorable evening. The day went on for many hours and all members from the club took a part in the event. The aim of the Dance Club is to promote Cypriot culture and customs as well as the healthy engagement of youngsters (and those who feel young!). A wide range of dance is taught, Cypriot folklore dance, Greek dance, ballroom, hip hop, break dance and oriental. Something for everybody. The Club participates in festivals organised in Cyprus as well as festivals abroad such as Greece, Bulgaria, Poland, Serbia, Romania, Slovakia, Lithuania and Belgium. It even has its own folklore band. For more information, please see the Facebook Page “Nea Genia Oroklini”. Written by Helen Barrett
The government has made clear that we want the legal rights of British nationals living in European countries, as well as EU nationals in the UK, to be properly protected. In the interim there will be no immediate changes. During the period of the negotiations, the UK remains a full EU member, entitled to all the benefits and obligations of membership of the EU. This means: • British nationals can continue to travel freely within the EU using UK Passport www.gov.uk/browse/abroad/passports • There will continue to be no visa requirement for British nationals entering another EU country. www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice • British nationals can continue to access healthcare during temporary visits to EU countries using the European Health Insurance Card www.gov.uk/european-health-insurance-card For those living within another EU country, such as Matthew Kidd Cyprus, it also means that: • British nationals retain their legal status as EU citizens and can continue to work and live in EU Countries www.gov.uk/working-abroad/overview • British nationals can continue to receive healthcare in EU countries www.gov.uk/working-abroad/healthcare-and-insurance • British nationals can continue to retire and collect their pensions in EU countries www.gov.uk/state-pension-if-you-retire-abroad/how-to-claim We will aim to communicate further on the issues that may affect you as the negotiations progress. But let me reassure you that the Government’s guiding principle throughout every step will be ensuring the best possible outcome for the British people, including those living within the EU. While our future relationship with the EU is still to be determined, our relations with our European neighbours will continue to be important. We will want the strongest possible economic links with our European partners, as well as our close friends in North America, the Commonwealth and other important partners around the world. That will require us to be more active, more outward facing, more energetic on the world stage than ever before. At the High Commission, in our work to support Britain in Cyprus, we will seek to demonstrate how the UK is engaged in the world and working with our international partners to advance the prosperity and security of our nation. All the reasons why Cyprus matters to the UK, in a wide range of fields from trade and investment to education, defence and security, public sector reform and tackling organised crime, continue to apply, so there will be no reduction in our engagement and activity here. Matthew Kidd 11

Self Esteem Is anybody actually 100% happy, content and confident with how they look or feel? I believe that a lot of people who read this article will straight away be able to name at least one thing they don't like about themselves, but many of us including me will battle with how we look and that will then affect how we feel. Perhaps we worry about how we are perceived. If we could wave a magic wand and inherit Beyoncé’s curves or maybe Peter Andre's 6 pack, would that really be the key to a new improved you? It all comes down to two choices, you either change, or you accept how you are. I admire those people who succeed in big changes, either by managing a significant weight loss, or by getting fit and becoming a totally new person. I think something must just click and an inner strength washes away the weakness and the 'I can do this' switch is turned on! To be able to actually wear that certain dress again that you last wore many moons ago and to have it looking better than it did the 1st time round! It's in us all to be able to achieve this, to take control and change but I believe it comes down to how much we actually really want it and how much of life's temptation we can resist! Self-esteem, self-belief and confidence will carry you through regardless of your image, age or nationality. Some can hold an audience with ease and then others struggle to get past a simple hello! So how can we be happy with who we truly are without feeling the pressure to change our outer shell? The good - Look at what makes you happy. The family and friends that see you as the wonderful person you are regardless of your issues. The bad - Try to be kind to yourself! No one is perfect so it’s not all that bad. The ugly - Remove yourself from the situations or the people in your life that make you want to question yourself. Take a good look at them and ask yourself whether they are really that perfect themselves. Give it a go. If the way you are looking and feeling is really effecting your wellbeing, then here are a few simple tips; Learn to say NO! That two letter word can be quite empowering as the alternative is always to say YES to avoid conflict or disappointment. Take control and get to know your own mind. Give yourself a mini make over, new hairstyle, manicure or new outfit. Some self-love and attention can trigger a chain reaction in how we feel about ourselves and can lift our mood. Set yourself a challenge, achieving is rewarding it helps strengthen our character and builds up our confidence. Finally - your biggest enemy is you, so learn to be your own best friend!

Body On The Beach Songs fill my head, along the tracks I tread all round our island’s golden shores. Such a lucky man, that’s what I surely am I couldn’t ask for anything more. But today our neighbour’s skinny little kid came and took me by the hand, saying "Mister Jack, what’s that in the bay lying face down in the sand? " There's a body on the beach riding out in the surf and wind, like some discarded jetsam that the spring tide rolled in. There's a body, a body on the beach with dark skin and curly hair, unacquainted with our customs he had nothing to declare. Did he leave his home so far away seeking a life safer and better? Maybe somewhere now a family waits in vain for a postcard or a letter. Before I go to my bed I might say a prayer for him tonight and if my woman cuddles up I will hold her extra tight. ‘cause there’s a body on the beach who will never return home his life he gave to the cruel waves just a piece of flotsam drowned in foam. Readers Star Letter Hello my good friend Natalie, owner of Daxi Magazine, with its many avid readers. I hope you will include this short outburst of mine in your next issue. I am very spurred on after watching the husband of Kate Granger on TV this week bringing home to us all, the message ‘hello my name is’. Kate sadly passed away on the 23rd July 2016 on her 11th wedding anniversary. During her time in hospital she felt that she was never acknowledged by name when the doctors were attending to her. She felt that she was a number and not a person. My condolences to her family. Moving on from this sad story, my thoughts go out to the ‘FORGOTTEN PEOPLE’ in some respite homes here in Cyprus. Whilst residents are washed, fed and watered, little else is done to inspire any kind of recreational activity. Outings are non-existent, except to the hospital and on a daily basis, they remain within the four walls in wheelchairs, watching TV or falling asleep. I am now approaching 70 and I feel this is how I may end up - a daunting ‘waiting for god’, end of life span, accompanied with loss of dignity. If there are any people reading this who can help in any way to brighten the lives of these residents, please contact Natalie at the Daxi Information Center and she will contact me. Let us help to provide a happier time for those unable to help themselves. Thank you, Anonymous

Back to School! As September begins so does a new school year for many children, so I thought I would share with you all our ‘Back to School’ party that we had at home last year. Rather than do my usual craft page, I thought this would be more inspirational with the added bonus of some craft and activity ideas. My children and their guests thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon, I hope you find something along these lines equally as entertaining. Let me start by setting the scene. I wanted our party to have a theme, along with dedicated colours. We all know that teachers love apples, so I thought I would go with this and we went for red and green. I made a centrepiece for the table with the apples and a ‘Back 2 School’ chalkboard sign, with red and green tableware, all of the children’s craft materials was ready for when they sat down. The children loved this because it gave them a proper party feel. For the activities, we started the afternoon with our craft section. I had a plastic cup for each child with their craft supplies inside and a plate for them to tip everything on to. They had everything they needed to make a stuffed sock apple with googly eyes and an apple necklace each. The children had great fun making these (the younger ones were helped by mummy). It was then time to play a game which obviously, I had to make them first! They were each given a piece of blue card and some cut outs to make their own tree, a sheet of red circle stickers and dice. The aim of the game was to take turns in rolling the dice, add up their score and stick the right number of apples on their tree. The first one to use all of their stickers was the winner! A fun game with a sneaky bit of maths thrown in. After our crafts and games session, we had our ‘Back to School’ tea which consisted of apple cakes (sponge cakes made with red and green food colouring), sandwiches, marshmallows, raisins, biscuits, pizza, grapes and of course apple! It was so much fun and we all had an amazing day. We’re really hoping to do it again this year but with some different activities. If you want to have a go at some other ideas you could make bookmarks, cover exercise books, make pencil toppers, play ‘when I go back to school I will take…?’, play memory games or even do a ‘Back to school’ treasure hunt where the kids have to collect items of stationary for their new school year. Whatever you decide to do, I wish you and your children all the best for the school year ahead! Written by Sam Barnes. Harry Potter and The Cursed Child U.S Best-Seller The story of the magical world that has won our hearts and imagination, now awakes again to become one of the most pre-ordered books on Amazon since 2007. Nine years after the publication of the seventh and last book, Jack Thorne, J.K. Rowling and John Tiffany unite in order to give life to our favourite characters again. The new novel was originally developed from a two-part stage play written by Jack Thorne. It was first published at midnight on 31 July, causing a lot of excitement among the lavishing youth. The mystery of the magical world now takes us nineteen years after Voldemor’s defeat, where we see the main heroic figures of the epic, acting like responsible adults. Harry Potter is a father of three children busy working in the ministry of magic. The story gives us the opportunity to get a closer look on the life of Albus (Harry’s son), who had just entered Hogwarts. The complicated equation between destiny and free will, the pull between duty and love, the role of loneliness and anger is the secret behind the success of the best-seller.
Encour un Soir by Celine Dion The fans of the Canadian icon must now be happier than ever because Celine Dion is returning powerfully with her new album. The French album clearly symbolises the strong return of the star after the death of her husband Rene Angelil in January. Dion’s new work will be released on 26th of August and will be titled ‘Encore un Soir’ French for ‘Another Night’. It is her first French studio album since 2012's Sans attendre. Encore un Soir features fifteen songs produced by Jacques Veneruso and Scott Price. The first single from the album, also titled Encore un Soir was released on 24 May 2016 and topped the charts in France, Quebec and the French-speaking part of Switzerland. We are all patiently awaiting the release of the magical French lyric which will certainly conquer the deepest parts of our hearts. Written by Daniela Amura

Directed and co-written by Andrew Stanton with co-direction by Angus McLaine, the screenplay was co-written by Victoria Strouse and Stanton. After Dory has become a helping hand in raising Nemo, a flashback of her childhood makes her remember that she once had a family too. Her determination drives her to start an adventurous search of her long lost family. The funny and complex character of the cute fish has won many hearts around the globe. With Ellen DeGeneres in the role of Dory, the new production has already won around 832,000,000 dollars in the worldwide box office, thus making it a number one movie of the 2016 summer.

The Daxi Business Awards were founded in 2011 as a way of giving recognition to small and medium size businesses, individuals and charities in Eastern Cyprus. After three successful awards events, with our 2014 event bringing together nearly 800 people from both the Free Famagusta and the Larnaca regions, we anticipate that this year’s event scheduled for Saturday February 4th 2017 promises to be the biggest Awards event ever seen in Cyprus! Initially the public will have the opportunity to nominate businesses for various categories who they feel are worthy of recognition in relation to each award criteria. Any legitimate business within Eastern Cyprus can be nominated whether they have many staff or are a 'one man band'. Businesses DO NOT have to be Daxi advertisers or have any business relationship with a panel member to be eligible for nomination, this is purely the choice of the general public. A panel of experts will then research all nominated companies in relation to their various award categories & each business will have a one to one interview on their premises with a member of the Business Awards Panel. Panel members are selected for their knowledge experience & expertise in dealing with a large variety of businesses in various fields. Where possible panel members will interview businesses they have little or no knowledge of to give an impartial view on each business & their eligibility for the award. This year’s panel will be announced over the coming weeks. The panel will meet after all interviews & research has been carried out to discuss each award category, the nominees & the results & findings. The panel will then debate each award until a unanimous decision is made in relation to the winner of each category. All category winners will receive a handmade Award & a framed certificate. Business of The Year will receive €4,000 worth of business prizes including €2,000 advertising in Daxi Magazine, 1 Full page advert in the Daxi Holiday Guide to Cyprus and 1 Years Gold advertising membership on Cyprus Eastern Forum. The winner of the Outstanding Contribution to The Community Award which is decided by the public vote will receive an €800 donation towards their charity or non profit organisation from Daxi Magazine. There will also be a charity raffle on the night with proceeds being divided between all nominated charities.

Before making a nomination please read the information below carefully: 1) Anyone Can Nominate Any Business - all nominations are anonymous. Nominations will open on 1st September 2016. 2) A Category Will Close Once It Has 12 Individual Companies Nominated - that have all been confirmed to meet the criteria of that category. If upon research the company does not meet the required criteria the nomination will become void & that company will not appear in that category. 3) Nominating A Company Puts That Company In The Award Process - and in front of the panel. It does not matter how many times a company is nominated for the same category & the number of nominations has no bearing on how the category winner is decided. The final decision is made by the panel once all research & interviews have taken place. 4) Businesses Can Only Be Nominated For One Category - so think carefully about the category you are nominating the company for. Is it the ‘best fit’ category for that company where they have the best chance of standing out as epitomising the award itself & what it represents? 5) Check The List - When you go to the nomination link there will be a list of companies that have already been nominated, where criteria has already been checked & confirmed for the category they have been nominated for. If the name of the company you want to nominate is already on the list then we cannot accept any further nominations for that company for that or any other category. 6) The Basics - All nominations made must be for companies located within the Famagusta or Larnaca region & must be legitimate businesses. If a company has more than one branch only the branches situated within Eastern Cyprus will be considered. Nominations DO NOT have to be for businesses who are Daxi Magazine advertisers or businesses who are clients of any of the sponsors or panel. Any type of business of any size can be nominated. 7) Rules - In the event that two nominations come through at the same time for the same company but in different categories, the nomination received first will be accepted & the company will be placed in that category only once it is confirmed that they meet the criteria required for that category. 8) Check The Award Criteria - Before nominating a company please consider the criteria for each award category (you can find this information on our website www.thedaxigroup.com or on our Facebook Page: Daxi Business Awards Cyprus. Try to give as much detail as possible as to why you think the company you are nominating fits the criteria of the award. Being A Successful Caregiver The responsibilities of being a caregiver may seem (and actually be) overwhelming for one person to tackle alone. Asking for help from family members and others may be challenging. Here are a few suggestions to promote communication and a greater sharing of responsibilities: • Make a list of all the things that you are currently doing and note the time requirement for each item. • Identify the things your siblings, family members and others could do to help. You never know, they may be feeling left out and might welcome an opportunity to contribute. • If your siblings (or others) don’t live close by, suggest ways in which they can assist. For example: researching community resources online, ordering items online, setting up automatic bill paying or checking options for home improvement projects, etc. • Schedule a meeting or telephone conference call. Offer to draft an agenda (using the Home Care Check List (in the July issue of Daxi magazine as a place to start) to keep the discussion focussed. Approach the meeting with a sense of working together to find a solution rather than telling people what to do. If appropriate, involve the person with dementia in the meeting. • If you are sensing conflict from a family member, don’t jump to conclusions. Provide opportunities for everyone to share their feelings and perspectives on the situation. It may help to suggest that everyone set aside any interpersonal differences and focus on the best interests of the person with dementia. • There should be one primary caregiver who is responsible for communicating with doctors, specialists, etc. • Identify a communication mechanism for sharing information (i.e. email, phone tree, etc.). • Set up a shared calendar and ask for volunteers to do certain tasks. • In the home, keep a communication book in which everyone (including the person with dementia) can record observations, suggestions, phone messages, appointments, etc. • Remember that, as the main caregiver you need respite breaks. If family members and others can’t help out, then perhaps they can help pay for the cost of third-party help. Thanks to Susan Adair, Registered Mental Health Nurse, for writing this article. Susan is also the owner of Adair Care and Nursing Clinic, providing care in the community for those who need it. To find out more call Susan on: 99095630.

Alcohol and Depression Some people say they drink alcohol to ‘drown their sorrows’ after a bad breakup, job loss, or other major life stress because alcohol makes you sleepy, a few beers or several glasses of wine you seem to relax you and it relieves anxiety. A drink once in a while when you’re stressed out or when you are feeling down is one thing but when you need that cocktail every time a problem crops up, it could be a sign of alcohol abuse. There’s also a strong link between serious alcohol use and depression. The question is, does regular drinking lead to depression, or are depressed people more likely to drink too much? Both are possible. Does Depression Drive You to Drink? Nearly one-third of people with major depression also have an alcohol problem. Often, the depression comes first. Research shows that depressed kids are more likely to have problems with alcohol a few years down the road. Also, teens who've had a bout of major a depression are twice as likely to start drinking as those who haven’t. Women are more than twice as likely to start drinking heavily if they have a history of depression. Experts say that women are more likely than men to overdo it when they’re down. Drinking will only make depression worse. People who are depressed and drink too much have more frequent and severe episodes of depression and are more likely to think about suicide. Heavy alcohol use also can make antidepressants less effective. Does Drinking Too Much Make You Depressed? Alcohol is a depressant. That means any amount you drink can make you more likely to get the blues. Drinking a lot can harm your brain and lead to depression. When you drink too much, you’re more likely to make bad decisions or act on impulse. As a result, you could empty your bank account, lose a job, or ruin a relationship. When that happens, you're more likely to feel down, particularly if your genes are wired for depression. Alcohol and Depression: What to Do It probably won't hurt to have a glass of wine or beer once in a while for social reasons unless you have a health problem that prevents you from drinking. If you turn to alcohol to get you through the day, or if it causes trouble in your relationships, at work, in your social life, or with how you think and feel, you have a more serious problem. Alcohol abuse and depression are both serious problems that you shouldn't ignore. If you think you have a problem with either, talk to your doctor or psychologist. There are lots of choices when it comes to medication that treats depression and there are drugs that lower alcohol cravings and counter the desire to drink heavily. Your doctor will probably treat both conditions together. You can also get help from Alcoholics Anonymous or maybe try speaking to the Samaritans. What Are the Differences Between Our Favourite Gadgets? Hi Daxi readers, this month I wanted to take you back to basics and cover a subject that many tech-minded individuals often take for granted. Whether you live at the top of a mountain or just a few blocks from your local supermarket, you’ll have undoubtedly come across many of the latest gadgets on the market. Smartphone’s, laptops, tablets, personal computers, you name it and someone within a few metres of you can be guaranteed to own at least one of them. Have you ever wondered what the differences between these individual gadgets might be? Instead of one all-encompassing gizmo, why do companies insist on segregating their products like this? Well, it’s all about functionality! I’m not sure about you but I haven’t seen many people actively walking around with computers strapped to their waists. Even laptops are typically carried around in suitable bags. The main difference is that people have different uses for varying devices and this is generally why they range in size, features and functionality. Take a Smartphone for example. They are lightweight, portable and thanks to the latest operating systems they can do almost as much as any laptop or PC can (albeit in a reduced fashion). Then you have tablets from brands like Apple, Samsung, Sony and other big players that create all sorts of entertaining tools. Tablets, just like smart phones, are far more portable than computers and thanks to their size they can often process data faster, making them like a big brother to the littler phones out there. Not everyone enjoys tapping away on a touch screen to send emails and that’s where laptops come in. These devices work in much the same way as a PC, although they combine the usability of smaller devices, too. You might be wondering why there isn’t just one or two of the same type of gadget on the market. Well, the truth is that different manufacturers simply want to sell their products. If there was just one phone worth buying, the ‘Daxi X1’ if you will, then competition would be minimal and other companies would soon find their efforts overlooked. That’s where companies have smartened up over the years. Instead of settling for a singular model, instead the manufacturer has a variety of phones and tablets that will appeal to different users. Some have bigger screens, some have better games and some are actually as simple as they were a decade ago! It’s really all down to your own preferences and what you’re looking for, so don’t be mislead by expensive brands that ramp up their prices, you’re bound to find a good alternative online for much cheaper. That’s all for this month and if you’d like me to cover a particular topic, or if you have any gadget or technology related questions, get in touch by emailing: info@thedaxigroup.com Until next time! Years Beyond - The Cost of Cars This month, I have compiled a list of car prices and a few basic facts from the past which I think you may find interesting! 1950 Ford Anglia £310 - This was the cheapest four wheel car you could have bought at that time and is the equivalent of £9,888 today. 1952 Ford Consul £717 - Price adjusted today £20,332. Forerunner to the Cortina and Sierra. Quite a bit of American styling and two tone paints used. 1956 Austin A35 £541 to £638 - Price adjusted today £12,810 to £15,106. Small family car of the 1950's and a popular starter classic car today. James Hunt owned a 1967 A35 van to transport his budgerigar collection to shows up until his death. 1959 Mini £497 to £537 - Price adjusted today £10,502 to £11,348. This car changed the shape of British motoring. Transverse engine with front wheel drive created good interior space from such a small car. BMC did their sums wrong and actually sold this car at a loss. 1964 Lotus Cortina £1,100 - Price adjusted today just over £20,000. What a great car. The basic Mk1 Cortina had a 1200cc OHV engine. This one was 1558cc with a Lotus Twin-Cam pushing out 105 BHP. To buy one today, expect to pay more than £30,000. 1969 Ford Capri £890 - Price adjusted today £13,939. 'The car you always promised yourself' was the advertising slogan. Designed by American Phillip T. Clark who was one of the main designers of the Ford Mustang. 1979 Fiat Strada £3044 to £3742 - Price adjusted today £15,785 to £19,405. Do you remember the TV ads? 'Hand built by Robots' all to the music of Rossini. 1991 Renault 19 16v £12,785 - Price adjusted today £26,102. A forgotten gem from the 1990's. What conclusions can be drawn from this? In my opinion they were all very expensive. I can understand why so many people didn’t own cars back in the 1950’s especially after the austerity following WW2. Public transport in the UK was probably good especially before the rail cutbacks in 1964. Some of the 50's and 60's cars are now quite high in value and survived because they were looked after by their many owners. There are only 36 Fiat Strada's on the road in the UK at this present time. Do you remember the Seat Malaga from 1985/92? There is only one on the road in the UK. F o o t b a l l - C r i c k e t - R u g b y - F o r m u l a O n e - Te n n i s - H o r s e r a c i n g INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL World Cup Qualifying Matches. 04 Sep - Slovakia v England, Malta v Scotland, Czech Republic v N. Ireland 05 Sep - Serbia v Republic of Ireland, Wales v Moldova 06 Sep - Cyprus v Belgium, Gibraltar v Greece DOMESTIC FOOTBALL With the season now well under way most of us will be looking out for our favourite teams amongst the ‘giants’ of the game, but spare a thought for all the ‘minnows’, the hundreds, if not thousands, of pub, works and village teams who are already battling their way through the early qualifying rounds of this season’s FA Cup. Who is (or was) your local team and how are they getting on? Teams from the Championship and Leagues 1 and 2 have already been in action in the League Cup (nice to see its reverted back to its original name). INTERNATIONAL CLUB FOOTBALL With all the qualifying matches for the Champions League and Europa League completed, the group stage matches will kick off in the week commencing 12th September. FORMULA ONE Can Lewis Hamilton maintain his challenge for this season’s drivers’ championship? See how he gets on in September’s two races: 04 Sep - Monza, Italy and 18 Sep – Singapore (street circuit) TENNIS Will Andy Murray add to his Grand Slam title collection with a win at the US Open at Flushing Meadow, New York? This tournament starts on 29th August with the final due to be played on Sunday 11th September. CRICKET England’s test series against Pakistan is now over but there is still unfinished business by way of two one-day internationals on 1st September at Headingly, Leeds and 4th September at Cardiff. The Pakistan tour finishes with a Twenty-20 match on 7th September at Old Trafford, Manchester. England then head off for a tour of Bangladesh commencing in October. PARALYMPICS The fun and excitement of the Rio Olympic Games may be over but now get ready for some absolutely mind-blowing performances in the Paralympics Games which take place from 07 – 18 September. I missed out on tickets for the London Olympic Games in 2012 but was more than happy to attend a day of the Paralympics a few weeks later. To watch these men and women, with their many and varied adversities performing to such a high degree is truly humbling. To my mind their achievements far outweigh those of their fully able-bodied compatriots. DARTS The Unibet Champions League of Darts takes place on 24th and 25th September at Cardiff. You will be able to watch this event on BBC Sport.
It has been decided that starting with this issue the monthly Sporting Update will no longer include reports of past events but will concentrate on the fixtures for the forthcoming month. We felt that given the early deadlines to which we have to work, by the time the reports were published most of our readers who follow the major sporting events, this would be ‘old news’. If you have any strong views on this decision, could you please e-mail me at the address below. If you have any suggestions or are involved with a sport you would like to see featured, please e-mail me at barrettdg@yahoo.co.uk. Written by Daxi Sports Writer: Doug Barrett 42

LOCAL SPORTS - KITE SURFING For those unfamiliar with this increasingly popular water sport, it is akin to windsurfing with a couple of major exceptions. Firstly, the board is smaller and secondly, instead of a fixed sail attached to the board, the method of propulsion is a kite type sail with a long rope held, controlled by the board rider. With a good wind or strong breeze the kite boarders can reach amazing speeds and make use of the ‘lift’ from the wing to propel themselves into the air in order to perform some spectacular mid air acrobatics. As kite surfing is not allowed on most public beaches during the summer there are several designated kite surfing beaches around the island’s coast. The nearest for our readers is called The Spot and is situated close to Pervolia village on the coast road to Mazotos. The kites can usually be clearly seen from the road. A kite surfing school has also been set up at this beach for those who fancy something different.

Breathe New Life into Your Living Room Hooray! It’s cooling down at last. Maybe we can now muster up a little energy to look at sprucing up our interiors. If so, tackling the living room might be the best place to start. There are a lot of small things you can do here which can make a big difference to the overall look (and then you can leave painting until the Spring without feeling guilty). So starting with the little things, unless they are hanging in tatters, the curtains could wait until you tackle the decorating. Treat yourself to a new rug or even several would be a good starting point to create a new look for your living area, it will also cosy it up for colder weather to come. Bright, monochrome or completely neutral, rugs, throws and cushions are great mix ’n’ match options to give your room style and a very individual look. The rugs in Cyprus have improved immensely now in comparison to when we first arrived here a while back. If you feel too spoilt for choice, narrow down the options of colour, pattern and style by considering whether you are going to change your throws and cushions as well. You just need a starting point. If you’re an arty or crafty person, this is the opportunity for you to make new cushion covers or personalise the ones that you already have with buttons, embroidery or wraps. Of course, we are talking about the piles of cushions that are there simply to be admired, not the ones you snuggle into! Why not have a look at Pinterest.com, there are some lovely ideas on the internet to be inspired by. If you have a very clear idea of how you would like your living room to look, you’ll be well on your way by now, but if you’re still stumped for a starting point, what about pictures? Maybe you can rearrange the pictures you already have, or frame and group together some of the photographs that are sitting in your computer still waiting to be printed and admired. Why not trawl through some of our really good second hand shops, there is always a bargain to be found. I have recently found a beautiful rug for just €10 which I’m going to hang on the wall in one of the bedrooms, it’s amazing how the colours have brought a richness and warmth into the room that I hadn’t realised it was lacking. And finally, if you really want to breathe new life into your living room, the finishing touch has to be plants. Not just for the striking greenery which will enhance your new look, but also because they give off oxygen and clean the air, whilst breathing new life into the room. Of course, if you’re the type who gives house plants the kiss of death, you will have to fake it! Kindly Written by Corinne Twining - Interior Designer. Plant Troubles
After such a hot August, quite a few people have contacted me with problems they are having with indoor & outdoor plants. The sun can be so powerful that it actually does scorch the leaves of plants. Many people think that brown leaves are due to under watering but that is not always the cause. Just as we burn in the sun, so do our plants. There is not really much you can do if your large palms or Strelitzias have been damaged. All you can do is remove the unsightly leaves to make them look better, cut back & tidy up. Also some problems may have been caused to the indoor house plants by the air con being on rather longer than normal. Plants sitting in a draught or in the direct line of air condition units have suffered from the cold & has shown signs of wilting. Moving the plants to a warmer position will help them recover quite quickly. Another problem that has cropped up a few times just recently is infestation within the compost. The most likely cause for this is mixing old compost with new, or mixing soil from the ground to plant up. Never use unsterilized soil, buy specially prepared compost which you can be sure is pest and disease free.
Compost Corner - Photosynthesis
This is the most important process on the planet and without it we would have no air to breathe. It all starts when plants breathe carbon dioxide through their leaves and then use the sunlight and green in their leaves to make sugars from the carbon dioxide. The sugar is then used by the plant for energy to make it grow. This process is called photosynthesis. Oxygen is then released as a waste product. During the night plants breathe in oxygen. This is called respiration. The plant also takes in minerals from the soil where they are dissolved in water. The plant releases any excess water through its leaves into the air. This is called transpiration. Plants are the only living organisms that can make their own food. This is a deciding factor of plants. If plants didn’t turn the sun’s energy into food we would all die. We can eat most things that plants provide, such as flowers, nuts, roots, fruits, seeds and leaves, but we cannot eat sunshine! In many tropical areas there are large rain forests. These are often referred to as the ‘Lungs of the World’ because they produce the oxygen we need to breathe. Important Property Tax Updates The summer has brought some welcome news for everyone who owns a home, or who is thinking of owning a home in Cyprus. In a bid to support the property industry and reduce the tax burden for owners the government has passed some welcome new laws: Title Deed Transfer Tax Each time a title deed is transferred to a new owner, Transfer Tax is payable. Last year the government introduced a temporary incentive to half the cost of the transfer fees. On the 14th July this was made permanent and tax rates are now as follows: • First €85,430 - per owner now taxed at 1.5% (previously 3%) • Next €85,430 - per owner now taxed at 2.5% (previously 5%) • Remainder - per owner now taxed at 4% (previously 8%) • If you purchased a property with VAT, from a Developer, the transfer tax will be zero. See below for an example on a property valued at €275,000.
Immoveable Property Tax 2016 During September notices will be sent out to all registered property owners for the Immoveable property tax. The calculations will again be based on the 1980 assumed value of the property but the amount of tax payable will be reduced by 75% from last year’s bill provided you pay by the end of October. As an example, the tax on an average 120m, 3 bedroom house will be reduced from around €240 to €60. For a two bedroom apartment it will be reduced from approximately €150 to less than €40. Any amounts less than €10 will not be collected. If the value of your property share (1/2 share in the case of two owners) is less than €12,500 you will still pay zero property tax. We welcome these positive moves for property owners and investors in Cyprus and as always, if you need help with any aspect of your home feel free to call in! Communal Property Advice While there are many benefits to owning a property in a communal building, development or resort, there are also additional concerns. Your fellow owners and neighbours become part of your investment, almost as if they were indirect partners. They can negatively affect your investment as much as a bad business partner can affect a business. This is why it’s essential when purchasing property with communal facilities that you properly understand the unique aspects relating to communal property ownership. THE OWNERS COMMITTEE What is a Committee? The committee is a group of owners who act as the elected representatives of the property owners. What is their role? They are responsible to co-ordinate the maintenance and management of the communal areas of the building. Their primary role is performing the administration of the communal accounts, obtaining insurance, setting the budget, organising maintenance and pursuing non-paying unit owners. While there is a set framework under the law for the committee members to be compensated for their time and effort, the vast majority are made up of volunteers who donate their time free of charge. Who can be on the committee? At the AGM any person can be elected onto the communal owners committee including a third party such as a tenant. Exceptions: a) If there are less than 3 members, the members of the committee must all be owners. b) Any owner in arrears is ineligible to vote, therefore it is commonly accepted that they are also ineligible to be elected onto the owners committee. Who SHOULD be on the committee? It can be difficult to find unit owners willing to put their name forward as a position on the committee can be time consuming, especially if a building is self-managed. It is tempting to elect any owner willing to put their hands up, with the theory that any assistance is better than none. It’s important to keep in mind the people elected onto the committee are placed in charge of what is millions of Euros of property, so the decision on who to put in these trusted positions should be carefully considered. Ideally they will bring relevant skills or experience and have a vested interest in the success of the building. Negative or argumentative individuals should be avoided, along with individuals who only wish to serve their own interests.

Look for positive owners with something to contribute: It is always best to have a specific position to fill with clear outlines of the expected roles and responsibilities. For example, someone who is an accountant would be ideally suited for a treasurer. A building contractor may be best suited as a maintenance project leader. Banoffee Pie This is one of my all-time favorite desserts. Luscious toffee and bananas laid on a nutty biscuit base and topped with fresh cream. Absolutely delicious and very easy to make, this is very popular at our restaurant. Impress your friends with this dessert or just spoil yourself and family. INGREDIENTS 2 tins of condensed milk, full sugar (397gms) 300 ml of whipping cream 250 gms of crushed digestive biscuits 100 gms of crushed hazelnuts 120 gms of melted butter 4 to 5 ripe bananas Dark chocolate shavings for decoration METHOD • Firstly, submerge your tins of condensed milk in water (Do not open the tins) and boil them for 2 to 2 ½ hours checking continuously and topping up with water. Keep your tins submerged in water all of the time or you will be scrapping toffee off your ceiling! • Mix your nuts, biscuits and melted butter together and put in a spring form tin, then using the back of a spoon firmly push down firmly on your ingredients, then place in fridge to harden. • When your condensed milk is ready, carefully take out of water and leave to cool for about ten mins. Cut your bananas thinly into rings and place evenly over your biscuit base. • Open your condensed milk and using a spoon, cover the bananas. • Using the back of the spoon spread the milk evenly, pushing down on the bananas. Then place back in the fridge. • Whip your cream on low speed till you get stiff peaks and spoon over the toffee using the tip of your spoon to form peaks. • Sprinkle with the chocolate shavings for decoration and place in fridge till ready to serve. (If you like this dessert and would like to make it often here is a tip for you: Boil extra cans of condensed milk at the same time, they will keep in the fridge for a couple of months, so you will have toffee ready for the next time you want to make another.)

Back to School September is finally here and I’m sure that many parents are eagerly awaiting the schools re-opening once again! It’s been a long hot summer here in Cyprus and for those with children of schooling age, it can be difficult juggling work, keeping cool and dodging the inevitable boredom from the kids for three months. I love the summer months and every June the boys and I count down to the end of the school year. I love the fact that the kids get a long summer break, a whole 3 months off school! That will stay with them forever and I hope they will have happy memories of the summer holidays as I have from my childhood. I look back on my seemingly endless 6-week childhood summers with great fondness and that was without a pool in the backyard or a beach on the doorstep! As much as I love the summer and I’m excited for the kids at the start of it, 13 weeks later I can’t help but to look forward to the new school year a little bit. My to-do list is pages long and I could do with a couple of mornings of total peace and quiet. The lie ins (if you can call them that!) have been nice but I’m now happy to trade them in again for productive mornings and everyone getting dressed before noon. I love having the boys at home and apart from the endless bickering, demands for food and the high levels of noise, I know I am very privileged to be able to work around them but I welcome the new season and new start that September brings. It’s at this point though that I realise how lucky we are to be here in Cyprus. I see many people in the UK who are sad to see their kids return to school after some fabulous family time and the thought of the little summer weather that they probably had disappearing into Autumn so suddenly, it would be totally depressing for me. I seem to remember the lighter nights and summer evenings fading so fast and being replaced by colder weather, winter coats and darker evenings for the new term. This is not the case for us lucky people! Once school starts again we have the best of both worlds, mornings are for working and assuming that we don’t fight over homework for hours each day, we’ve still got many more afternoons of pool times and beach trips ahead this year. September you are welcomed with open arms! Pet of the Month
Dear Gina, I’m going to Scotland again in September and as usual I will be taking my pet dog with me. We are taking a tour this year and will be stopping at the bridge in Scotland where there is a rumour that many dogs have committed suicide there. Have you heard anything about this? My friend told me you visited Scotland last year. Do you think that it will be safe to take my dog with me to the bridge?
Roxanne is a very small and cute little Chihuahua mix. She was born in 2014 and her height to shoulder is 29cm. Roxanne is a very loving, sociable and very active dog. A home with another dog would be fine but she does not like cats. A perfect small dog for any home! Vaccinated and spayed. Roxanne can be seen at Argos shelter in Ormedhia. The shelter is open 7 days a week and visiting times are 11am to 3.30pm.
Thank you, Anonymous. DAXI READERS PREPARE TO BE SPOOKED - THIS IS Overton Bridge A TRUE STORY!! Yes, I did visit Scotland a couple of years ago but I was only passing through so I didn’t get a chance to go sight seeing. I know exactly what you are talking about and it’s one of my life goals to visit the Overton Bridge in Scotland. I think the bridge was built around 1859 and stands a little over 40 feet above low flowing waters and grass banks. The concrete walls surrounding the top of the bridge are 4 feet tall. I also know about the bizarre happenings that took place on Overton Bridge which is why it has earned the name of ‘The Dog’s Suicide Bridge’. Since the 1960’s, there has been over 600 reports that dogs have spontaneously jumped off the bridge. Some owners have claimed that their dog seemed to be hallucinating before charging and leaping over the 4-foot wall and plunging down a 40-foot drop into the rocky river. The locals also claim that the bridge is haunted. Sadly, yet amazingly, out of the 600 dogs that have jumped, only 50 have died. The last dog that I heard had plunged to its death was a dog belonging to a Mrs Donna Cooper. She insisted that an animal behaviour scientist should visit the bridge to find out the cause of this problem. Even though there is a sign saying ‘do not let your dog’s off the leash’ the dogs still pulled with force until they were free and able to jump. A paranormal investigator was also sent to the bridge to investigate and she walked along the bridge with her dog. Later, in her report she claimed that the dog was acting very strange and that it kept pulling towards the right hand side of the bridge wall. Other reports given over the years’ state that nearly all dogs chose to jump from the right side of the bridge. Finally, David Sands, a canine behaviour expert, did his research and came to the conclusion that the dogs smelt mink and all jumped out of curiosity. However, this fact still remains the reason dogs are jumping off the bridge today. So, in answer to your question, definitely do not take your dog up there! Daxi Interviews….
Minus One
Following their recent appearance at Eurovision representing Cyprus I am very proud to announce Minus One as our headline act for Daxifest Charity Festival on Sunday 2nd October. Excited about the prospect of hosting the biggest rock band in Cyprus at our event, I went along to meet the boys and find out more about what lies behind the huge success of these very talented musicians. How long have you been together as a band and how did you all meet? We've been together for 6 years. We all knew each other and worked in various projects one way or another in the past and I guess we all were free and willing at the same time to start a band together as we wanted the same things. How would you describe your style of music and who are your musical influences? As there are five of us we all have various musical influences, a lot are similar but we also have a lot of different influences. Our music is not following a specific genre but the way the band is setup the results do have mostly a rock vibe.
Your song Alter Ego has had a very positive response, where did the song come from and the influence behind the music video? The song was a collaboration between the band and Thomas G:son. As usual when we compose, we go in our rehearsing room, use ideas from all of us and play with them until a song is formed. Then it was sent back and forth to Sweden where Thomas was, until it was ready for Eurovision. The video clip was again ideas from the band and the Director Emilios Avraam. Loosely playing with the title and avoiding the usual ‘touristy’ vibe, we tried to produce a visually good video clip equal to the ones you can see on any music TV channel by known artists, showing the vibe of the band and introducing us to the world in a way.
How did you get involved with Eurovision and what was it like as an experience? It was a suggestion by CYBC. They liked what we did and how we did it, so we were honoured by their selection. The experience was awesome. It is much bigger than seen on TV when you are living it from the inside. And of course knowing you are watched by a few hundred million around the world makes it very important for us or any artist.
What has been the biggest challenge/s that you have had to overcome as a band? Every new step we take is a challenge, be it Eurovision or having to change a member after 5 years together, or even leaving the regularity of performing weekly in specific venues to start writing original songs and building on that outside of Cyprus. We are known to try new things all the time though, sometimes risking and taking unexpected steps so it's part of who we are. So we are used to overcoming challenges.
62
What can those attending Daxifest on Sunday 2nd October expect to see from the band in terms of songs and set list? The song list isn't something we give away prior to any event and aside any other reasons for that, we do try to refresh our play list all the time adding new songs, so even if we wanted to give it out it probably isn't done yet. People who know us should expect the Minus One they've learned to love with the band's original songs added performed in our usual fun and explosive way. People who don't know us should be ready to be surprised and prepare for a treat. Are there plans for a European tour in the near future given the fantastic response the band has received from many countries in Europe? The response in Europe was amazing and of course new ‘doors’ opened for us. A lot of invitations came our way from all over Europe and elsewhere. Our Manager Giampiero is working hard sorting them out and trying to put them into a tour.
“We are known to try new things all the time ...sometimes risking and taking unexpected steps...it's part of who we are” What are your aspirations for the future and where do you see Minus One being in 5 years time? We are at the beginning of a new Minus One era where we are trying to get our own songs heard and be able to play our music all over the world. We can't guess where we will be in 5 years but we wish that we will be able to get to higher levels, as in anything in life really. Finally, for those who want to find out more about Minus One and up and coming gigs in Cyprus where can they get more information? People can get info on the band and any upcoming events or even contact the band, on our official Facebook page www.facebook.com/Minusonecy

Did you think your voice would make a difference, then got frustrated when it didn't? All isn’t lost, you just haven't found the right audience yet. Hang in there until people have a chance to hear you’re a true genius. People older than you need your assistance on the 24th & you're more than happy to give it to them. Their words of thanks are plentiful and quite welcome. It's nice to hear good things about yourself every once in a while.
Love is all around you on the 6th. Romantic love is what you're focused on but all kinds of love are beautiful. When you let go of your expectations, you'll find what you're looking for. Your motto this month is 'go big or go home' but on 30th & 31st, you might bite off way more than you could possibly chew. Are you really enjoying yourself, or are you just addicted to the drama? Use your voice and speak up, Pisces.
Let your emotions take you on a wild ride on the 2nd & 3rd. Not that you're really one to hold back anyway but when you follow your heart, there's no telling what you might say or who you might say it to. Honesty has always being your best policy, some people respect that, others may not. When new projects get started on the 21st, you've got your hand up the highest to volunteer to help. Would you do it for nothing? Yes!
The more open-minded you are the better things go. A strong sense of protectiveness comes over you on the 10th & if anyone comes close to harming the people you care about they'll have you to deal with. Dreams are vivid & hard to decipher on the 19th & there may be things lurking in the shadows that call you to figure out a mystery. Your versatility is your greatest asset on the 25th, how do you make it all look so effortless!
You're usually a pretty easy going, roll-with-the-waves type of person but on the 1st you're feeling much less flexible than usual. What's up, Gemini? If something is bothering you get to the bottom of it so you can be yourself. Your thoughts are very academic on the 7th so if you aren't already in school, think about taking some night classes or studying something online. The more you learn, the more beautiful the world appears.
The 11th or 24th is perfect for entertaining which is something that you love to do. You can dress it up fancy & cook a five-course meal for your family or go casual & have some friends over for drinks & snacks. Either way, you're happy to be the host with the most! Your confidence is sky-high on the 28th & 29th, so why not make the move you've been talking about? Now really is the best time.
Don't waste the massive dose of determination you get on the 4th. You know that one thing you've been wanting to do but just kept putting off? Do it now, while you're both willing and able. Seriously, what are you waiting for? You've got a great group of people around you on the 13th and when you pool all of your resources there's pretty much nothing you can't do. How will you make the world a better place?
Looks like you've got a big decision to make. Stumbling on a new way of doing things is kind of bittersweet on the 18th because while you're all about efficiency, you also love your routines. Maybe there's a way to incorporate the new while keeping a hint of the old. You'd make an excellent detective on the 27th because you're not about to let any details slide. If someone lies to you, you can pick it apart and find the truth in about two seconds.
The little bothersome details don't really get to you on the 3rd because you're too busy having the time of your life. It's hard to imagine things getting any better than they are right here, right now. You're really focused on the bottom line & how to get your fair share of the earnings, profits, etc. You love to be entertained on the 17th, so plan ahead & get tickets to a movie, concert or sporting event you've been waiting to see.
You're a creative thinker & an excellent code decipherer on the 2nd so don't be surprised if you get asked to consult on a major community project. Yes, it could happen. You have a lot to be proud of on the 5th but what if no one else recognizes your greatness? Celebrate your accomplishments, both big and small, whether anyone else claps for you or not. Thinking outside of the box is required if you want to show the higher-ups what you're made of.
Is an unexpected windfall headed your way? Looking for your luck to change? The 2nd is a promising day for you if you're waiting for it all to turn around. You live for companionship on the 14th so if you aren't surrounded by the ones you love, do what you have to do to make it happen. If the people you consider family are right around the corner, there's no excuse for not getting together.
A transformation is on its way on the 1st. It may be so gradual that you'll question whether or not it even happened, or it could be so earth-shattering & profound that you can't help but take notice and be amazed. Either way, change is unavoidable. The 5th & 6th are great days to bond with people. You're lucky to have acquaintances all over the globe who think enough of you to reach out in whatever way they can.
