Its exterior needs to be painted blue and white because it can bring a feeling of refreshment. There are at least 4 rooms for my nuclear family. Although it may be not big, it should be a comfortable and cosy place for the whole family to get together every evening.

My ideal house should be closeto nature, so its location in the middle of a big garden is my favourable option.

Hobbies are practiced for interest and enjoyment, rather than financial reward. Examples include collecting, creative and artistic pursuits, making, tinkering, sports and adult education. Engaging in a hobby can lead to acquiring substantial skill, knowledge, and experience. However, personal fulfilment is the aim.

What are hobbies for some people are professions for others: a game tester may enjoy cooking as a hobby, while a professional chef might enjoy playing (and helping to debug) computer games. Generally speaking, the person who does something for fun, not remuneration, is called an amateur (or hobbyist), as distinct from professional.

An important determinant of what is considered a hobby, as distinct from a profession (beyond the lack of remuneration), is probably how easy it is to make a living at the activity. Almost no one can make a living at cigarette card or stamp collecting, but many people find it enjoyable; so it is commonly regarded as a hobby.

Amateur astronomers often make meaningful contributions to the professionals. It is -not entirely uncommon for a hobbyist to be the first to discover a celestial body or event.

In the UK, the pejorative noun anorak (similar to the Japanese 'otaku' meaning a geek or enthusiast) is often applied to people who obsessively pursue a particular hobby that is considered boring, such as train spotting or stamp collecting.

A. is usually paid for his hobbies

C. indulges in many hobbies

B. may enjoy his work as a hobby

A. people can make a living at it

C. people find it profitable

B. people find it enjoyable

D. people find it easy to pursue

4.Which of the following is not called 'celestial bodies'?

A. the Galaxy B. planet C. stars

5.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?

D. the sun

A. people who are very interested in boring hobbies are criticized.

B. stamp collecting is not popular nowadays.

C. the word 'anorak' is derived from Japanese.

D. A& Bare correct.

II. Part 2:

Describe a leisure activity you do with your family

You should say

What it is

When you do it

Where you do it

And explain how you feel about it

Câu trảlời tham khảo từweb:

(What it is):

My family is good at cooking since we always think it is better to have home cooked food, and usually have big feasts on the weekends. However, I would like to talk about the time when my family gathered to make Chung cake for the Tet holiday.

(When you do it)

The Lunar New Year, or Tet, was a very special traditional holiday in my country. It was probably my favourite holiday when I was a small boy, as my family did a lot of activities to celebrate this occasion. Among them, making Chung cake excited me the most. Traditionally, we always made Chung Cake two days before the Lunar New Year.

(Where you do it)

We had a big yard behind our house, and the Chung cake was made there, from preparing ingredients, to shaping the cake to cook it. I still remember having helped my parents prepare the cake’s ingredients while my elder brother was in charge of shaping the cake. And then, my father lit a small fireto boil the cake overnight. It was perhaps the only time of the year when I was allowed to stay up late.

(And explain how you feel about it)

In recent years, my family has not had enough time to make Chung cake on our own. However, a ready-made Chung cake that we buy from a local market cannot bring the same special feelings and replace the taste of a Chung cake made at home. I hope that my family can continue our tradition in the coming years.

DẠYKÈMQUYNHƠN OFFICIAL

How do Americans spend their free time? Here are a few facts from Leisure Trak®, which measures the leisure and recreational habits of Americans 16 years old and over.

The top four leisure activities of all Americans are: watching television, reading, socializing and shopping. Using computers, eating out, watching spectator sports, and reading the newspaper also ranked high.

81 percent of Americans enjoy watching television at least once a day.

57 percent watch TV for less than two hours, but eight percent admit watching it for five or more hours per day. The top five recreational activities for women are walking, aerobics, exercising, biking, and jogging. The top five for men are golf, basketball, walking, jogging, and biking.

Part 2:

My hobby is reading. I read story books, magazines, newspapers and any kind of material that I find interesting.

My hobby got started when I was a little boy. I had always wanted my parents to read fairy tales and other stories to me. Soon they got fed up with having to read to me continually. So as soon as I could, I learned to read. I started with simple ABC books. Soon I could read fairy tales and stories. Now I read just about anything that is available.

Reading enables me to learn about so many things. I learned about how peoplelived in bygone days. I learned about the wonders of the world, space travel, human achievements, gigantic whales, tiny viruses and other fascinating things.

The wonderful thing about reading is that I do not have to learn things very hard way. For example, I do not have to catch a disease to know that it can kill me. I know the danger so I can avoid it. Also I do not have to deep into the jungle to find out about tigers. I can read all about it in a book.

Books provide the reader with so much information and facts. They have certainly helped me in my daily life. I am better equipped to cope with living. Otherwise I would go about ignorantly learning things the hard way.

So I continue to read. Besides being more informed about the world. I alsospend my time profitably. It is indeed a good hobby.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct answer to each of the questionsf

Shopping is a necessary part of life which very few people can avoid. Some people go shopping more regularly than other people to browse products in shops even when they do not have much money. This is known as window shopping and allows people to plan ahead and save for the things they want to buy in the future or wait for the items to drop in price. Some people spend a lot of time looking for bargains while others do not think of the price and are happy to spend a lot. Some people believe that the more expensive the item, the better the quality, but this is not always true. It is sensible to buy items which are affordable, but some people use a credit card or borrow money from the bank so that they can buy the items they really want rather than wait for it.

DẠYKÈMQUYNHƠNOFFICIAL

Sometimes shopping can be stressful when choosing a gift to buy for other people for a special occasion. It is common to buy a gift voucher so that a friend or loved one can go shopping themselves at their own convenience. Shopping online is often popular with people who have a busy lifestyle. People are able to order their necessary and luxury items from the comfort of their own home, or even on the

The only real problem is that the item description and quality may be more different than what they hoped for. This could mean the customer may become disappointed with the item they receive and will need to return it at their own cost. People who go to shops to do their shopping often use self-service payment machines. This usually saves time as the shopper does not need to join a long queue. However, it can be frustrating when the machine has a problem and the sales assistant is not always available to help.

Hello. Good to see you all here. This afternoon I’m going to talk about a recent survey into men’s and women’s shopping habits. Before I start, I’d like you to look at the list of statements about men and women and see which ones you would expect to be true ... Right? Firstly, let’s look at the idea that women spend a lot of money on expensive shoes. Actually, this isn’t true.In fact, women buy a lot of cheap shoes.

Men, on the other hand, try to save money by buying special offers. What is surprising about women, though, is thatthey like shopping in expensive or exclusive boutiques. And, it isn’t true that they always make a shopping list when they go to the supermarket. We’re also expected to find that men would go to the supermarket after midnight to get their food cheaper, but this wasn’t the case, either. Then the third thing we learnt about women is thatthey like to shop in big department stores, which men don’t like.

They like to go shopping in specialist shops. OK? How many did you get right?

Script:

Good morning. I’m John Masters, and this is Shopper, the weekly show on retail and shopping. Later in today’s show, we’ll be talking to online shopping expert, Marta James. But before that, we’re talking about some famous shops from around the world. And live from New York City, we’ve got Madison, who's going to tell us all about Macy’s.

Hi John, well, one of the most famous department stores in New York City is Macy’s. There are over 850 Macy’s stores all over the United States. But the flagship store is in Herald Square Manhattan, just around the corner from the Empire State Building. Interestingly, Rowland Macy, the company founder, opened his first shops in the town of Haverhill in Massachusetts between 1843 and 1855, but they weren’t successful. However, Macy learned from his mistakes and in 1858 he moved to New York. He opened his first New York store on 18th of October 1858 and was immediately successful. The Herald Square store was opened in 1902. Macy’s is especially famous for its Thanksgiving Day parade, which marksthe beginning of the Christmas season

Part 10: Reading comprehension

Sometimes shopping can be stressful when choosing a gift to buy for other people for a special occasion. It is common to buy a gift voucher so that a friend or loved one can go shopping themselves at their own convenience. Shopping online is often popular with people who have a busy lifestyle. People are able to order their necessary and luxury items from the comfort of their own home, or even on the move. Delivery is usually free and items are often cheaper than in shops on the high street.

Question 53: Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?

A. Shopping–Happiness and Annoyance

C. Shopping –A Waste of Money

B. Shopping –All-consumingPassion

D. Shopping –Facts and Measures

Question 54: What do some people usually think about items of better quality?

A. They are cheaper.

C They are more expensive.

B.They are harder to find.

Question 55: The word “affordable” in paragraph 1is closest in meaning to ______.

A. costly

B. inexpensive

Question 56: The word “it” in paragraph 2refers to ______.

A. the item B. the customer

D. worthless
