Almost all our energy comes from oil, coal and natural gas. we call them fossil fuels. The earth's fossil fuels are running out. What would happen if there were no oil, coal and gas on Earth? Scientists are trying to find and use other alternative sources of energy. We can use energy from the Sun, the wind and the water.
Solar energy is unilimited. It supplies all the energy used to grow plants, to evaporate water for rain and to maintain the temperature of the plants. All are necessary for human life. If we're able to collect solar energy, we'll be sure to make good use of this abundant source of power. Another source of energy from nature is the wind. wind power is clean and plentiful.
All are necessary for humanlife. If we're able to collect solar energy, we'll be sure to make good use of this abundant source of power. Another source of energy from nature is the wind. wind power is clean and plentiful. Enegry from the wind has been used for centuries to move ships, grind grain, pump water and do other kinds of work. In more recent time, wind power has been used to generate electricity.
Water can also provide power. For a long time, people have used water to power machines. Some early uses of water were to mill grain, saw wood and power machinery for the textile industry. today water power is mostly used to generate electricity.

Fire was very important to man. He needed fire to keep himself warm at night. He used fire to cook his food. He used fire to frighten away enemies and wild animals. In some parts of the world he used fire to signal messages. Red Indian, for example, used fire to make smoke signals. In some other countries, people lit fire to warn their friends of danger.
Fire was also used to give light. Before the invention of oil lamb, men used burning sticks as torches. And before man discovered gas and electricity, he hung small fires in wire basket from post to light the streets.
One man even used fire to tell the time. He invented a candle clock. He made a candle that took exactly twelve hours to burn. Then he marked this candle in twelve equal parts. He lit the candle and could tell the time by counting the number of parts left of the burning candle. But the candle clock did not always work well. If there was a win blowing on the candle, the flame burned too quickly

In parts of Africa, this is a typical day for a village woman. At 4:45 a.m, she gets up, washes and eats. It takes her a half hour to walk to the fields, and she works there until 3:00 p.m. she collects firewood and gets home at 4:00. She spends the next hour and a half preparing food to cook. Then she collects water for another hour. From 6: 30 to 8:30 she cooks. After dinner, she spends an hour washing the dishes and her children. She goes to bed at 9:30 p.m.
International organizations and programs run by developed nations are starting to help women, as well as men, improve their agricultural production.
