LOCALS’ TIPS Daylesford and the surrounding area is not really the kind of place where you come to ‘do’; it’s more the sort of place where you come to ‘be’. But if you can drag yourself away from your pillow or picnic rug, here are some locals’ top tips: Vintage is always in: if you like the idea of garage sales from a bygone era, then get lost in the treasure trove of delights awaiting discovery at Daylesford’s Amazing Mill Markets or the cornucopia of collectibles at the Brick Lane Bazaar. Stop and smell the lavender: Lavandula Lavender Farm, 15 mins drive from Daylesford, is full of restored farm buildings, manicured gardens, picnic spots and, of course, plenty of lavender. Try the lavender scones! Sweet art: Wander through The Convent Gallery. It looks like a grand historic mansion from the outside, but is an airy Hamptons-style abode on the inside filled with a carefully-curated selection of art ranging from the traditional to the mind-blowing. Grab a bite to eat at the Bad Habits café. The book is alive and well: The historic goldfields village of Clunes is now forging a new future, providing the perfect back drop to a weekend of browsing across a cluster of permanent bookshops. The town hosts the popular Booktown Festival every May.

AWARD-WINNING HOTEL RESTAURANT AND DAY SPA

A beautiful 1930's boutique hotel set in the heart of Hepburn Springs offering four-star luxury accommodation, from traditional hotel rooms to self contained villas. Enjoy a signature experience at The Mineral Spa then a martini in our Stuart Rattle designed lounge and bar, or wander through the picturesque European style gardens and discover the iconic Villa Parma before you take dinner at The Argus Dining Room. All just 3 minutes from Daylesford. 124 Main Road, Hepburn Springs Victoria 3461 | springs@peppers.com.au I 03 5348 2202 | mineralspringshotel.com.au

FIND A LOCAL GEM

Alla Wolf Tasker Culinary Director, Lake House Daylesford Daylesford is my home. I spent much of my childhood here, learning from my mother where and which mushrooms to gather, picking damsons in old orchards and harvesting elderflowers. For the past three decades, I’ve helped our guests unearth many of this area’s hidden food and wine gems. If they’re wanting some local produce or a bite to eat, the decision is easy: The Daylesford Cider Company – just out of town, offers tastings and sales and beautiful cider produced from their organic Somerset cider apple varieties. Istra – take a turn off just before Musk and pick up some traditionally made European smallgoods. Passing Clouds – Just up the road is the cellar door where you can taste some of the region’s delicious iconic wines /drops. Redbeard Historic Bakery – down the road in Trentham is where you’ll find beautiful wood fired sourdough bread and more. Trentham Collective – enjoy the rustic, cool environment with a coffee or snack. The Cosmopolitan Hotel – lean on the bar of this restored hotel, enjoy some local produce.

But remember, you’ve only scratched the surface. Be sure to check out the Tasty Little Touring Map for more great food and wine spots to explore. dmproduce.com.au
