Spa & Wellbeing
No visit to our region is complete without a rejuvenating treatment at one of the many day spas. We have the largest number of massage and beauty therapists per capita in Australia and our region is home to more than 85% of Australia’s natural mineral waters and the largest collection of mineral springs in the southern hemisphere. The energy from these healing waters infuse the atmosphere bringing an instant calm. Your time in a day spa is your own – a “you-time indulgence”. A time for pure relaxation and reflection where you can give yourself totally to a therapist and allow your tired muscles to relax and release the stresses of everyday life. So sink back with a cup of herbal tea, go with the flow and enjoy being pampered.
Immerse yourself in 100 per cent natural mineral spring water, indulge in a facial, mud bath, body wrap or clear your pores and your mind in a steam room or sauna. The options for spa treatments are limitless dependent on the time that you have as you can be pampered for several luxurious hours. And you can either visit a day spa or have the therapist come to you. Ours is a region where you will also find a range of alternative therapies like Reiki, Shiatsu or Bowen Therapy. We appreciate that it will be hard to choose just one treatment as each will offer its own set of healing benefits. We suggest that as each property will offer its own unique experience, choose a couple of different locations and try something new each time you visit.

Spa & Wellbeing
Even more precious than gold, natural spring water attracted the first Swiss-Italian settlers to the region in the 1800s. Our region is home to more than 70 natural mineral springs, and it was these, as much as the prospect of easy riches, that attracted the first wave of migrants to the area. Rich in magnesium, calcium and silica, among other minerals, the springs were believed to cure all sorts of afflictions from acne to arthritis. In the early 1800s, locals lobbied the council to halt sluicing for gold to protect the water and the Mineral Springs Reserve at Hepburn Springs was created in 1865. Each of the minerals specific to the waters found in the area can benefit health: calcium is good for the development of bone tissue, function of muscles and relaxation; magnesium helps with muscle aches and pains; silica is important for strong bone formation; bicarbonate balances the body’s pH levels; and iron, important for red blood cells, is easily absorbed through the water.
Top five spa tips Whether you wish to relax with a full body massage, a revitalizing facial, a manicure or a dip in natural mineral water, here are our top tips for making your spa experience a relaxing and enjoyable one. 1. Know spa etiquette Learn a little about spa etiquette ahead of time so you know what to expect. 2. Hydrate Remember to drink fluids, especially water. 3. Be comfortable Wear comfortable loose clothing. 4. Make a booking To avoid disappointment book ahead. 5. Check the spa menu Take some time to find the spa treatment that you most desire.

A couple of days in the fresh air and sunshine, enjoying everything that Daylesford and the Macedon Ranges region has to offer, from art to fine dining, could be just what you need to recharge and unwind. If you are just passing through the area, or only able to visit occasionally, remember to bring some empty bottles to sample this precious drop or try soaking in the pure waters – the ultimate in relaxation.

You are sure to find something that suits your budget and taste whether it be luxury lodging, a quaint cottage, an exquisite guest house, self-contained comfort, a traditional B&B, historic homestead, caravan or a camping spot.

Discover our region’s wines Perhaps our best kept secret is our amazing wineries. Our region has been producing wine for over 160 years with the first vineyards planted back in the 1840s – which isn’t surprising when you consider our rich European heritage. The regions’ cool to cold climate means that our wines are produced in small quantities of exceptionally high quality. The majority of our wineries are owner-operated which provides a greater chance for you to meet and talk to the winemakers to gain a first-hand insight into their wine making techniques.
