African Salad is a photographic trek to find lekker South African flavour. It has very little to do with salads. Over a period of one-and-a-half years, 120 South African families opened their doors to photographer Stan Engelbrecht. The result is an astoundingly honest portrait of family life and the food that South Africans come home to – handwritten family recipes stand alongside tin-can specials, morogo or biltong. African Salad is a record of an extensive journey across the dusty platteland and sprawling townships of South Africa, exploring the real lives of a nation of raconteurs, eccentrics and everyday people. African Salad is a 264 page custom-bound, hard-cover book containing over 200 full-colour photographs and over 70 illustrations. Dimensions 300 x 215mm Published by dayone. Photographs Stan Engelbrecht. Text Tamsen de Beer. Original concept Stephan le Roux.
