Day One is an independent publishing company established in 2005 and based in Cape Town. Day One produces what it terms ‘new Africana’. Its books pose a contemporary vision of South African life and culture. The company’s two South African titles to-date (African Salad - a portrait of South Africans at home and Miss Beautiful - South Africa in pageants) are the result of collaborative efforts by the company’s three director/authors: Stephan le Roux, Stan Engelbrecht and Tamsen de Beer. Day One has also just completed Das is(s)t Deutschland, a German-language format of the African Salad concept that was published with a German publishing partner. It is due for release in Germany later this year.
