Welcome to the Domain for a second consecutive weekend. We have another full house today and, with the Swifts Ladies at home tomorrow, it’s fair to say the Domain will get a good old work out today and tomorrow. Today’s visitors are Old Blues 1sts and reserves, and Claudelands Rovers. At Premiership level, we don’t have a terribly good record against Old Blues. I’m sure the plan amongst the playing squad will be to do their best to rectify that today and help maintain our bright start to the season. Our reserves and 3rds haven’t had the best of starts to the season, results-wise, which means today’s matches are extra important to them. Hopefully we can gather a few points in these early games too. The junior football season is still a few weeks from getting underway. We’ve increased our playing numbers this year, particularly at Mini-Kickers level (ages 4 to 7), which is a good sign for the future. One area we struggle with, however, is getting coaches for all our teams. So, if you’ve ever thought you’d like to get a start in coaching, well, have we got a deal for you! Taking a junior side is an excellent starting point for developing your coaching skills, not to mention a great way of giving a little bit back to your club. If you’d like to know what options are available then shoulder tap me on the sideline - I’d be pleased to let you know more. The preliminary round of the Chatham Cup was drawn during the week and we’ve ended up with Otumoetai at home on ANZAC Day Monday. It’s great to have a home tie, and even better to have avoided those tricky away trips, but it would have been kinda nice to have got someone we don’t normally play. But that’s the joy of the Cup, right? It’ll be all on next weekend. I hope you enjoy today. Dwayne Barlow, Club Mouthpiece

Junior football
Swifts junior football registration is complete for 2016 and we are well on our way to the start of another season. Numbers are consistent with recent seasons, with an increase in players of Mini-Kickers age. Grading was held at the Domain in midMarch for all 8th Grade to Open Grade players and team lists are posted on the website (at www.matamataswifts. com/2016-junior-teams-named). We’re still on the lookout for coaches and managers, so if this takes your fancy then please contact Cathy O’Callaghan at junior.swifts@gmail.com. All games begin on Saturday May 7 for our travelling teams and Mini-Kickers.
