Welcome everyone. We’re back at the Domain for the third weekend in a row, although the place won’t be quite as busy as the last couple of Saturdays given we only have one game to manage today. But what a game it is! This Chatham Cup preliminary round match affords both sides the opportunity of taking a break from the WaiBOP Premiership to compete for the opportunity of advancing to the first round proper and, potentially, a match against a higher ranked team. Otumoetai is a big, well run club, and have fielded a solid Premiership side for a number of seasons. As an administrator, I’m always trying to learn from what other clubs do well. There’s a lot to learn from today’s visitors. We’ve already hosted Otumoetai here once in 2016 (during pre-season) so we know a fair bit about each other. And we’re pretty pleased not to have to hit the road on ANZAC Day, particularly north. We could have been given a draw like West Hamilton, who were asked to travel to Waiheke Island (great trip, but at the end of a long weekend...?). For me, it’s been a pleasure watching the way the Swifts have begun the 2016 season. It would be fair to say the last couple of years weren’t easy for the team, in many areas. But they well organised this year, the youngsters are a year older, and a year better, and we’re winning games (hopefully that continued on Saturday). We had the added complication over the last month or so of Jordane and Rafa’s international transfer clearances taking more than four weeks to come through. No-one, not even NZF, quite knows why this happened, but the guys are now cleared to play and I’m sure we’re all looking forward to watching what they can do during the weeks and months to come. I hope you enjoy today. Dwayne Barlow, Club Mouthpiece

Some of our club members, along with a good number of local companies, were recently involved in a couple of projects that helped increase the club’s capacity - namely, converting the changing facilities at the swimming pool complex, as well as installing some more training lights up at Pohlen Park. The changing rooms and lights are already being well used. As we’ve seen over the last two Saturday’s, with three games at the Domain, we were in desperate of the extra space. The lights up at Pohlen have already given us extra training space, which will only be more critical once the junior season gets fully going. Without the initiative and support of Mal, Rob, Matt, Dobbo, Dwayne and the backing of the likes of Tony at Laser Plumbing, Jimmy Neal, Rex Barnes Engineering and the council we wouldn’t have been able to get these projects completed before the start of the season.
