Well. What do you know. We’re back at the Domain for the fourth week in a row. Last weekend’s match - our Chatham Cup tie against Otumoetai - didn’t quite go according to plan. As a longterm Tottenham fan I’m quite used to watching games like that, where the team doesn’t quite end up with what they deserve...for a variety of reasons (some of which I can’t go in to here). That’s football, as they say. It was a shame, because we missed out on hosting Waitakere City in the next round, which was exactly the sort of draw we’d have been hoping for had we made it through. But, no worries. We get to concentrate on the league now (‘they’ say that, too). Today we welcome Katikati back to the Domain. Both matches between the two sides last season were tight old tussles and I think we’re all expecting more of the same today. I guess, like us, Katikati will be looking for an improved showing in 2016 and it’s matches like this one that will help achieve that goal. The junior teams, along with our new under-13 Federation League side, begin their season next weekend. It seems like ages since we had junior grading so I’m sure all the kids will be ready to rip into it. Even for a club as small as ours, it takes a lot of time and effort from a few people to keep this vitally important part of our organisation running smoothly. Speaking of which... I’m looking for a few more people to help out with coaching on our Mini-Kickers programme on Saturday mornings. These sessions run for an hour only, every Saturday morning from next weekend through to the end of August. It would be great to have a few senior players involved to help build the link between our current Swifts and our future Swifts. If you can help, even on some weekends, please shoulder tap me on the sideline and I’ll let you know more. Dwayne Barlow, Club Mouthpiece

Term 2

Some of our club members, along with a good number of local companies, were recently involved in a couple of projects that helped increase the club’s capacity - namely, converting the changing facilities at the swimming pool complex, as well as installing some more training lights up at Pohlen Park. The changing rooms and lights are already being well used. As we’ve seen over the last two Saturday’s, with three games at the Domain, we were in desperate of the extra space. The lights up at Pohlen have already given us extra training space, which will only be more critical once the junior season gets fully going. Without the initiative and support of Mal, Rob, Matt, Dobbo, Dwayne and the backing of the likes of Tony at Laser Plumbing, Jimmy Neal, Rex Barnes Engineering and the council we wouldn’t have been able to get these projects completed before the start of the season.
