Hello everyone and welcome back to the Domain for what is the only fixture in town this weekend. Welcome to Mike and the Taupo players and staff. It’s been a grubby week, weather-wise, here but hopefully things are a bit brighter for both the teams and fans today. We’ve had some decent tussles with today’s visitors over the years which, more often than not, we’ve come out on the wrong side of. In terms of both performance and facilities, Taupo has set the Premiership standard for so many years. They’re the club we all want to be a bit more like. Hopefully, on the field at least, we can start to bridge that gap just a touch this afternoon. Our last home game threw up a massive high, in terms of our team’s attitude, performance and result, and a new low in terms of what our opponents attempted (for the second time in three seasons) after the match. Every Swifts player did the club proud that day with their approach to the game and their competitiveness against a very good side. To then have the afternoon soured when our opponents’ management attempted what can only be described as a shameful race hoax was several degrees greater than disappointing. We do not tolerate racism at this club. You just need to look at the make-up of our squad, and the relationships within it, to see that. Equally, we do not tolerate the race card being played as a way of disguising poor behaviour and a lack of discipline, from our members or those of opposing teams. I will push back - hard - on both. And I make no apologies for doing so after the match with Ngaruawahia United. No amount of pretentious, philosophical, self-stimulation will ever hide an inherent lack of self-awareness. Just ask Duncan what he had to listen to from the opposing bench two weeks ago... Anyway, enjoy the game today. I’m sure we’ll only have the football to discuss when it’s done. See you on the sidelines.

Junior Opportunity - Shirt Sponsorship Investment: $500 + GST. We have full sets of shirts, in the club’s new Nike style, on order now for ALL our junior 8th to 12th grade teams. We expect them to be available and in use by mid-June. With this comes a unique opportunity to get the logo of your business, or the business you work for, placed on the front of the shirts of your child’s team. This is a one-off investment that lasts for the life of the shirts (usually 3-4 seasons). All funds raised through this scheme will be re-invested in the club’s junior programme.
