Welcome back to the Domain after a break of a couple of weeks. The low levels of traffic over the last few weekend’s couldn’t have come at a better time. The surface on number one was pretty ripped up after our last double header. We’ve had the roller on since, so hopefully it’s in a bit better condition for everyone today. The first team seems to have recovered from and, indeed, used as inspiration our defeat at Otumoetai a month or so ago. The guys played well to get results at Cambridge and Unicol, both places we’ve struggled at in recent seasons, and we find ourselves in the top two going into the second half of the season. Clearly it’s where we want to be after struggling since our return from the NRFL at the start of 2013. Massive credit goes to all the coaching staff and players who have worked so hard. Now the pressure’s on us to stay here and maybe even go one spot better. This is a far more fulfilling type of pressure than what we faced in both 2014 and 2015, when relegation loomed. As a fan, it’s a lot more fun. As club management we now need to consider the implications of being successful in 2016. The NRFL wasn’t a target for this season, but if the results keep coming then it enters the discussion and we’ll have to start asking what do we, as a club, want to do? Answers on the back of a postcard please... In the meantime there’s plenty of football to be played, starting with the visit today of Papamoa in the Loaded WaiBOP Premiership and title-chasing West Hamilton United in the WaiBOP Championship. Papamoa came over and smoked us in the same fixture last season, while our reserves have had some good tussles against West Ham in the recent past. We also welcome Te Awamutu to the Domain as they play our improving Swifts A team. All this means we can expect some decent matches this afternoon. Enjoy. Dwayne Barlow, Club Mouthpiece

SWIFTS UNDER-13s HOW ARE THE YOUNG SWIFTS DOING IN 2016?

Matamata Swifts’ first foray into the WaiBOP Federation Under-13 league can already be considered a success. We are, by far, the smallest of the nine clubs involved but the team is more than holding its own. The under-13s have won two of their six games so far. Last Sunday’s 4-0 victory over bottom side, Otumoetai, was a mature and assured performance. The 3-2 win at Cambridge several weeks ago was more than special, given it came against our local rivals and also in some rather challenging circumstances... The team has two more games before the July holiday break, with the next home game on July 10 against unbeaten Tauranga City United. Right Swifts U-13 midfielder, Braedyn Henderson.
