Hello everyone and welcome to the Domain for what I hope will be a more pleasant afternoon’s football than what we faced this time last Saturday. We faced a cold, grey old day last time out, which was matched by some of the football, and it made for a not-very-fun football experience for players and fans alike. That happens sometimes. But, as I write, my phone tells me the forecast is looking pretty awesome for the weekend. That’s a good start, particularly for us fans. Last Saturday is long gone, so we can consign that result against ...mumble, mumble... to the past and begin afresh. Enough of that. Welcome to Tauranga Boys’ College and West Hamilton United. Today’s matches loom as important ones for our teams, as well as the visitors, in their respective leagues. It would be fair to say both our sides are in need of the boost a victory would bring so I hope that’s what I’ll be taking photos of this afternoon (players - remember to smile when I point my camera in your direction). Welcome also to today’s match officials. The Premiership is becoming an increasingly competitive league and it’s a tough job, at times, managing the players and coaching staff. I hope today goes well for you. It wouldn’t be an issue of Pulling A Swift One without a grizzle about our facilities. Pohlen Park is now a virtual Health & Safety hazard after less than three month’s use this winter. Struggling to train makes preparing for Saturday a proper challenge. We’re now at the point where we need to take the lead on getting this fixed because our council appears to think it’s their job to do nothing. I’ll be calling a club meeting in the next couple of weeks to get people together to discuss what we can do. I hope you’ll be able to contribute. As always, I’ll see you on the sidelines. Dwayne Barlow, Club Mouthpiece

WaiBOP Premiership Update - Round 13 The Soccer Shop WaiBOP Premiership can now officially be called as a four horse race and what a race it looks like being. Only three points separate new leaders, Flying Mullet Papamoa, from fourth placed Waikato Unicol after Saturday’s latest round of matches. The visit of previous leaders, ninetyblack Taupo, to Papamoa was the weekend’s standout fixture and it didn’t disappoint. Taupo had gone on a nine game winning run since their defeat to Papamoa in the reverse fixture during the opening weeks of the season, and they fell again as goals from Callum Glover, two minutes before half time, and Colm Kenny, three minutes after the restart helped the hosts to a 2-1 victory. Joe O’Donoghue hit back for Taupo just after the hour mark to set up a gripping final half hour or so, but Taupo couldn’t find a second and relinquished their Premiership lead. Otumoetai’s 4-0 win at Ferguson Park over a faltering Tauranga Blue Rovers moved them into second, level on 28 points with Taupo but ahead of the Lakesiders on goal difference. Jordi Langton put Otumoetai ahead on 20 minutes, before JP Rosende doubled the lead minutes later to give the hosts a comfortable half time advantage. Langton scored his second on their hour mark then completed a fine personal performance with his hat trick goal 17 minutes from time. Rovers are still in fifth, but now sit nine points behind a Unicol side that followed up their 2-0 midweek win at Melville United with a 5-0 victory over Tauranga Boys’ College on Saturday. Unicol got the job largely completed
during the first half in this one. Reuben Henderson put them ahead early, before three goals in ten minutes just after the half hour gave them a four goal lead at the break. Krishaant Singh, with two, and Thomas Wright were the goal scorers. Substitute Kieran Payton made it five on the hour as Unicol eased home. In the other games, both Melville United and Gisler Architects Te Awamutu won their fourth games of the season, while Safer Team Te Puke United won their first. Sok Ven’s second half strike was enough to give Melville a 1-0 win at Ngaruawahia United, while Te Awamutu did it altogether easier with a 4-1 victory at West Hamilton. Goals from Steffan Foulkes and Tawhiri Ball had Te Awamutu two ahead midway through the first half, but Mitchell Dodd halved the deficit before the break to set up a potentially exciting second half. Joel Roil was having none of it, however, scoring twice in little more than ten minutes after the restart. Te Puke returned from their match at Comag Matamata Swifts with a comfortable looking 3-0 win, their first three points of 2019. Jack McIlwaine put Te Puke in front early before Atsuhito Kageyama doubled their lead from a free kick on the half hour. McIlwaine’s second just over 20 minutes from the end completed a morale boosting victory against a Matamata side that had plenty of chances but couldn’t seem to buy a goal.
