Hello everyone and welcome to the Domain for today’s Loaded WaiBOP Premiership match against Melville United. Hopefully the weather’s played ball today as it’s much more fun standing on the Domain sidelines when the sun’s shining than when it’s not. You know you’re starting to run out of things to say when you start talking about the weather. But hey, I’ll find something... Oh, look. The junior season got back underway this morning after a short break for the school holidays. After not really knowing what to do during the last couple of Saturday mornings it’s a comfortable feeling to know things are back to normal. We have some good little players across the various age groups and it’s been pretty cool to see them develop over the season. The team I coach, the 9th grade Panthers, has quite a range of abilities and that, I’ve found, has been a real challenge for me this season. It’s great, though, when you see one of the kids ‘get’ something; that’s probably the most rewarding thing about coaching a junior team. Over the course of the season I’ve had a number of conversations with people from other clubs about how we can best work together. While these have primarily been focused on junior football, and what we can do for our young players, there’s no reason we shouldn’t be working with neighbouring clubs - Morrinsville, Te Aroha, Cambridge - at all levels. Something to ponder and work on over the summer. Anyway, back to today. These two sides fought out one of the more memorable Premiership matches this season, when the reverse fixture at Gower Park finished 5-5. What odds another ten goal thriller this afternoon? Have fun today, enjoy the match, and I’ll see you on the sideline. Dwayne Barlow, Club Mouthpiece

Top three pull clear in Premiership Tauranga Boys’ College, Flying Mullet Papamoa and Taupo appear to have finally and definitively turned the 2018 Loaded WaiBOP Premiership season into a three horse race for the title after they all won again on Saturday. Papamoa and Taupo both struck convincing wins against two of 2017’s top three sides, while the current league leaders, Boys’ College, edged past Te Awamutu to stay three points clear at the top. Boys’ College didn’t appear to be at their fluent best against dogged opponents but had enough in the tank to beat their visitors 2-1 and keep their good run going. Ryan Peddle’s goal put the students in front but Haydn Roil hit back to ensure the match was level at the break. Kody Gorst scored what would turn out to be the game’s only second half goal, and ultimately its winner, as Boy’s College became the first team to score 50 goals and move past 30 points this season. Papamoa started slowly against Comag Matamata Swifts but struck three goals in the nine minutes leading up to half time, through Logan Crawford, Andrew Cooper and Top Khamwanthong, to all but secure the points. Brayden Lissington snatched one back for the Swifts not long after the break, but Khamwanthong had restored his team’s three goal lead before the hour mark, then substitute Liam Molloy, scored late to complete a comfortable 5-1 victory. Taupo kept pace after dispatching Waikato Unicol 3-0 at Crown Park. Toby Tullet hit the game’s only first half goal, then Gordon O’Donoghue and Conor Hinz found the back

of the net to send a Unicol side that has made no secret about their title hopes home with plenty to think about. The current state of play has Tauranga Boys’ College sitting on 32 points after 15 games, with Papamoa and Taupo three points behind having both played two games less. The Premiership title is still all to play for. In other games, Melville United scored twice during the second half, through Ben Wheatley and Josh Nooijen, to consign West Hamilton United to a 2-0 defeat, while Otumoetai racked up their fourth win on the trot to move into the top half. Otumoetai’s 4-1 victory at now-second-bottom Mercury Tokoroa came thanks to goals from Jordi Langton, Sam Flatt 2, and Nicholas Barnes. All the goals came in the first half as Tauranga Blue Rovers beat rock-bottom Hamilton Wanderers 4-1. . Championship leaders, Ngaruawahia, had the bye so the spotlight fell on the teams below them. Kawerau jumped back into second after a 4-1 win at previously-second Taupo reserves and now look nailed on to secure promotion. Krishaant Singh was the stand-out performer, scoring twice in each half for a personal haul of four goals. Unicol reserves won 2-1 at Te Puke United, while Tauranga Blue Rovers beat Otumoetai reserves by the same score. Cambridge jumped off the bottom, over Waharoa Transport Matamata Swifts, after a 2-1 home win against their near neighbours. From www.waibopfootball.co.nz.
