We’re entering what is often called the business end of the season. It’s a time where results, both our own and those of other teams, seem to have extra significance and today’s matches certainly have that. The first team has dropped a couple of games away from home over the last few weeks which, while disappointing, show how competitive this season’s Loaded WaiBOP Premiership is. What those results mean is that Ngongotaha could potentially end up running away with the title, although we still have to play them twice and they still have to go to Cambridge... so there’s still some hope. Whatever happens, for us this season has been a vast improvement on the last couple of years. We’ll be looking for that to continue over the next couple of months and, just as much, into 2017. Today’s WaiBOP Championship match is key for our visitors, Te Awamutu. They have a small advantage over Taupo in the race to join West Hamilton in next year’s Premiership, but can’t really afford to drop any points. Our ressies have done well against the stronger teams this year, particularly at home. I’m sure we’ll be looking for more of the same today. Tauranga Boys’ College will be looking to avoid going in the other direction. We’ve helped out both Old Blues and Katikati in their quests to avoid relegation. Hopefully, for us, we’re not in quite so generous a mood today. We’ve just finished up our July school holiday futsal camp. Andrew and Lawrence did a great job with all the kids who joined them up at the college from Monday to Wednesday. Futsal’s perfect for learning football skills and, in the college, we had an excellent mid-winter venue. Hopefully we’ll see a lot of these kids in our senior teams in the years to come.
