Matamata Swifts v Cambridge WaiBOP Premiership - 2.45pm

Swifts Reserves v Cambridge Reserves WaiBOP Championship - 12.30pm

Saturday March 28, 2015. Matamata Domain, Matamata.

A Few Kind Words Welcome everyone to the Matamata Domain for the start of another season. This year we turn 85, which is a milestone worth celebrating. We’ll do so throughout the year. I’d like to wish the players and coaching staff from both Swifts WaiBOP league teams all the best for the coming 2015 season. The 1st team did it tough during the first half of 2014 Management but came good over the closing stages. We’re persevering Committee with a young squad this season and if the improvements continue at the rate they did last year I think we’ll do well. Patron Pushing our reserves into the WaiBOP Championship should Jack Poole aid with this development. Many of our 2014 U-17s now have the chance to play senior mens football at a challenging level President and that will help massively with our overall goal of increasing Julie Clothier quality and improving depth. Vice-President Today we welcome near neighbours Cambridge in both the Malcolm Raynel WaiBOP Premiership and, earlier, the WaiBOP Championship. Treasurer There’s probably no better way to kick off the Premiership Dave Mann season than with a derby against the league favourites. Secretary The fact we have a Swifts v Cambridge double header just Debbie Sankey increases the fun. There’s a lot to like about the way the Cambridge club is Club Captain run. We’ve both suffered relegation from the NRFL in recent Ronan Costello years - not a nice thing to have to deal with - but Cambridge Committee used that as a trigger to rebuild and I expect they’ll be back Pete Challis there pretty soon. Gemma Sliz Through my involvement with WaiBOP United I have Junior Convenor seen first hand how things run at our near neighbours. It’s Cathy O’Callaghan impressive and it’s no accident Cambridge now loom as hot Club Development Mgr favourites to win the WaiBOP Premiership. While the scale of Dwayne Barlow our two clubs are quite different, there’s a lot of off-field stuff they do that we should learn from and implement here. I would also like to use this column to welcome Waikato PICTURED Stud on board as our new 1st team naming rights sponsor. Front Cover Scott Parsonage Mark and the team have been long-term supporters of the gets everything behind a header club and we thank them for increasing their investment. in the 2013 match at the Domain between the Swifts and Cambridge. Hopefully wearing the name of the country’s leading Photo: Harlequin Photography. thoroughbred stud on the front of our shirts will signal a Page three Lawrence Clothier return to form for the Swifts. makes a break for it at the Domain during last Saturday’s friendlies.
