Loaded WaiBOP Football v Auckland Football 1pm, Sunday November 6, 2016 John Kerkhof Park, Cambridge
Welcome to our Visitors WaiBOP Football welcomes the Auckland Football players and staff to John Kerkhof Park for today’s crucial National Women’s League encounter. Loaded WaiBOP is pleased with the way we’ve started our 2016 campaign. Our first up match against Capital, here at Cambridge, was an entertaining encounter with goals and good football in front of a big crowd. Hopefully we’ll see more of the same today.
The team returned from Central with an excellent three points in the bank which set things up nicely for the business end of the season. Thank you to Cambridge FC for again providing the venue and a host of today’s volunteers. Playing at John Kerkhof Park is always a quality experience. Matches like this cannot go ahead without your support. We hope everyone enjoys today’s entertainment.
NWL 2016 - Round 4 The 2016 National Women’s League passes its midpoint today with three fixtures that will all have a large impact on the play-off race. The match of the round is at QBE Stadium in Auckland where title holders and league leaders, Northern, host Canterbury United Pride, champions for the previous two seasons. For many this will be a preview of this summer’s final, (although several other teams will be hoping otherwise). In the other game, Capital will be expected to keep their unbeaten run going when they host a Southern United side that has been comfortably beaten in their first two matches. Central has the round 4 bye. For Loaded WaiBOP Football, the visit of Auckland is a real test of our progress so far this season. We’ve performed Front Cover: Kim Maguire, seen here in our opener against Capital, scored twice last Sunday at Central to help us to a 4-1 victory.
well and are still unbeaten, but if we’re serious about making the play-offs then we need to pick up a result today. We’ve played well in patches in both our games so far,” said coach Barry Gardiner during the week. “Last Sunday at Central I thought we knocked the ball around well and stuck to our game plan, particularly during the first half. “We will be looking for more of the same today but for more sustained periods.” WaiBOP has had some tight tussles with Auckland over the last few summers. “And today’s game could be another close encounter,” said Gardiner. “Auckland have already played the teams occupying the top three positions in the league but have failed to pick up any points so far this season.” We drew 0-0 with Auckland in 2015 and suffered one goal defeats in the two seasons prior 2-3 in 2014 and 0-1 in 2013.
