Loaded WaiBOP Football v Canterbury United Pride 1pm, Sunday November 20, 2016 John Kerkhof Park, Cambridge

Welcome to our Visitors WaiBOP Football welcomes the Canterbury United Pride players and staff to John Kerkhof Park for this afternoon’s pivotal National Women’s League encounter. Loaded WaiBOP is pleased with the way our 2016 campaign has gone to this point. We’re still unbeaten, have been scoring goals and have welcomed good sized crowds to our two previous home games.

But today, it gets real. We all know what’s on the line as we host one of the NWL’s big two. Post-season spots are up for grabs this weekend and we desperately want one. Thank you to Cambridge FC for again providing the venue and a host of volunteers. Playing at John Kerkhof Park is always a top notch experience. We hope everyone enjoys today’s entertainment.

NWL 2016 - Round 6 The 2016 National Women’s League is at the business end and there is no game more important than this afternoon’s match between Loaded WaiBOP and Canterbury United Pride. The right result for either side will all but seal a play-off spot, so the stakes are high. In the other big game of the weekend, Capital host leaders Northern. Northern have carried their 2015 title winning form into this season so will be favoured, but if Capital can somehow manage to get at least a point then that will put the pressure back on both us and Canterbury. The bottom two - Central and Southern United - play in Palmerston North, while Auckland has the bye. For us, the visit of Canterbury is both a great test and an exciting challenge. “We recognise we will be playing against a team that has been very successful over the last 3 or 4 seasons,” said head coach, Barry Gardiner. “That in itself will be a challenge, but these are the types of games that we want to be involved in. As a group we believe we have the right quality and mentality within our squad to pick up points from these games. “For us, each week is about how we prepare, how we perform and how we deal with challenges within the game. If we get all that right then we’ll put ourselves in a good position to get a result.” Last summer’s match between these two sides was a classic. Played at Porritt Stadium, Hamilton, the visitors ran out 6-5 winners thanks to a couple of late strikes from Monique Barker. We trailed 3-2 at half time, then turned it around in the second half before the late sting in the tail, which included a last minute winner for Canterbury.

The fans were out in force during our match against Auckland two weeks ago. Hopefully we see more of the same today.
