ASB Women’s League Rd 4 League-leading Northern Football took sole possession of first place in the ASB Women’s League on Sunday with an empha c 11-2 win over Capital Football. Paul Greig’s side scored six first half goals at the QBE Stadium Oval to put the result to bed quickly despite a Cushla Lichtwark penalty save from Ka e Rood in just third minute. Meanwhile, second-placed Mainland Pride were held to a scoreless draw by Auckland Football at ASB Football Park in Christchurch. Mainland goalkeeper Victoria Esson was called into ac on with several good saves while Auckland survived a first-half scare as a deflected cross bounced down off the crossbar and away. With the result the hosts stay within touching distance of leaders Northern, two points behind the top side while Auckland, in recording their third successive draw of the compe on, dropped to fi h in the standings. Elsewhere, WaiBOP Football moved alone into third spot with a 4-1 victory over Football South at Tahuna Park in Dunedin. The visitors took the lead via Tessa Leong in the ninth minute

and further first half goals from Tayla Christensen and Paige Satchell had Juan Bau sta Propato’s side firmly in control at the break. New Zealand U-17 and U-20 interna onal Satchell added her second goal of the game in the second half while a WaiBOP own goal in the late stages pulled one back for the hosts. The result sees WaiBOP move to eight points, two behind Mainland Pride. The New Zealand Development side con nued their upward momentum on Sunday, moving into fourth posi on with a 7-2 victory over Central Football. Gareth Turnbull’s team conceded an early goal for the second me in as many weeks but from there the hosts wrestled control of the game back and didn’t let go as Jacqui Hand levelled in the seventh minute before goals later in the half to Saskia Vosper (2), Claudia Bunge and Grace Jale had the Development team ahead 5-2 at the break. The second consecu ve victory for the Development side sees them leapfrog Auckland Football into fourth spot ahead of the fi h round of games.
