Ibakordor Nongrang
Ibakordor Nongrang, 19-year old female alumnus of DBTech (Jowai) is working successfully in Isola di Cocco, Ayurvedic Bach Resort of Kerala and earning Rs 6,000 per month with food and accommodation. She says that her success is because of God's blessing and DBTech. She does not have any clue before four months that she would be working in Kerala these days if DB Tech had not given her a second chance. Ibakordor belongs from a small village called Nogrim Nongladaw of Ri Bhoi District (Meghalaya). She comes from the family of seven members, which include herself, her mother, four sisters and a brother. Her father does not live with them; and she does not know the reason behind it. One day as she was sitting and thinking about her future, she was very much worried of what she will do in the future. Thinking about her family, she wanted to help them but was unable to find a way and means to go about it. Then a friend recommended her to enrol in DB Tech located at Bosco Pnar (Jowai), which was running a training program for rural unemployed youngsters. Since she had no other options, she decided to join this training program so as not to burden her family. She enrolled herself in the Hospitality course as it deals with Hotels and Tourism; and the profession also involves meeting and interacting with new people and making them feel at home. On the first day of her training she was very excited to meet new people, to experience a new environment and to be part of DB Tech family. The best part of the training was that she learnt about teamwork. Ibakordor says “I learned a lot from DB Tech, as a family we work together, eat together, and then we have prayed together that heals my sorrow.” During the training she was taught about hotels, how to interact with guest, how to attend calls including grooming, style of talking, manners, etc. She has learned a lot during the training but wants to learn more that she said. However, after the training was over she was excited to give her interview but had to wait for the interview call. She did not receive the call for a month and was starting to doubt if her placement was going to happen or not. However, she still had some hope that one day it will happen. Then, one fine day as she was doing her house chores, a call came from Kerela by the F&B Manager who shared the good news about her selection in the resort. She says, “It was the happiest day of my life.” Now she is looking forward to achieve her dream of opening her own hotel. She gave her heartfelt thanks to all her trainers, Br. Pascal and to the Don Bosco family. She further adds “If they had not been with me, I would not be able to attain my goals.”
