Don Bosco Tech signed an agreement with Tata STRIVE for a robust technology platform to support the entire skill training cycle

To provide another opportunity to less privileged youth for imparting skill training in different market driven courses and to secure a decent job, Don Bosco Tech Society has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tata STRIVE to offer various courses that will serve as a platform for youth, who wish to shape their future in various professional and sustainable industry. Don Bosco Tech signed the MoU with Tata STRIVE as part of the facilitation of similar interest of contributing to the country's skill development endeavor. Tata STRIVE is a group of CSR

initiative of Tata companies worldwide. It is one of the several CSR programmes undertaken by Tata group on skill building and training of the youth for employability, entrepreneurship and community enterprise. In this partnership, Tata STRIVE as a knowledge partner, brings in the Tata brands and expertise from Tata companies (Industry leaders in various sectors), a robust technology platform to support the entire life cycle from mobilization to placement, NOS (National Occupational Standard), aligned courseware, Industry recognized Assessment and Certification process and access to world-class quality framework among others. Don Bosco Tech will adopt Tata STRIVE way of delivering training, deploy its courses (Retail, Hospitality, Electrical Wireman, etc.) and Youth Development Modules across the selected centres. Together Don Bosco Tech and Tata STRIVE, intend to impact 83,000 youth through these courses across 120 selected centres and over 2,00,000 students through 'Youth Development Modules' across selected 300 centres in the next 5 years. Don Bosco Tech looks forward to the valuable partnership and positive response in the implementation of the skill development program.

Regional review meetings organised to discuss upon the outcomes and challenges

For the smooth running of the programmes and to discuss upon the outcomes and challenges in program implementation, Don Bosco Tech Society organised three days project team meetings in Bengaluru, Guwahati and New Delhi in the month of November and December, 2015. Fr. A. M. Joseph (Executive Director, Don Bosco Tech), Mr. Biseswar Talukdar (Sr. Manager Program and Govt. Liaisoning, Don Bosco Tech) and Ms. Amulya Tirkey (Manager – Partnership and Liaisoning, Don Bosco Tech) were present in all the meeting. The team leaders from Operations, MIS, L&D, Finances and Placement teams from national and state team of Don Bosco Tech along with the respective State or Province incharges were also present in the meetings. The meeting was organized with an agenda to discuss several issues and

challenges hampering the smooth implementation of the programs across India and to streamline the key to its success. During the course of the meetings, the teams discussed the challenges and bring about the resolution in the mobilization process, counselling, training delivery process, MIS reporting, accounts and billing, placement details, assessment and certification, HR and Admin, etc. They also discussed on the documentation, department coordination, performance incentive and communication plans. The first meeting was held at Don Bosco Skill Mission (DBSM), Bengaluru for the South States from November 5 to November 8, 2015 where Fr. George Matthew (Assistant Director- Finance, Don Bosco Tech), Fr. Remesh Cherian (Assistant Director - Programs, Don Bosco Tech), Fr. Arul Maran (DirectorDBSM) and state in-charges and team of South states were present. The second meeting was held at Bosco Reach Out, Guwahati for North- Eastern states from November 26 to November 28, 2015 while the third and final meeting was held for the North and North West States from December 8 to December 11, 2015 in Don Bosco Tech - National Office, Nazafgarh, New Delhi.

Tamil Nadu had witnessed a heavy rainfall in last 100 years, which caused widespread damage and destruction in the many places in the state. The non-stop downpours left the city completely immersed in water and devastated. Almost 4.6 million residents of Chennai city had been affected severely in this torrential rain. Rev. Fr. Andrews Stephen Raj, SDB (State Head, Don Bosco Tech, Tamil Nadu) and Rev. Fr. Joseph Leo, SDB (Director, DBV) initiated the flood relief work and coordinated the patrons to get all the available aids. “It is the time to stand up for a cause. Let’s join together and help the most affected people in our own little way,” said Fr. Joseph Leo, during the meeting for allocating the responsibilities. The state team and trainers initiated the rescue services by identifying the affected trainees and staffs of Don Bosco institutions. In the rescue operations, social media played a vital role to reach out and to get information about flood affected people.

The relief team reached Don Bosco Tech centers in Thiruvottiyur, Madhavaram, Shastri Nagar and M. K. B. Nagar. Don Bosco Tech centre located at Thiruvottiyur was the worst affected centre in the state. Relief materials packs consisted of breads, buns, rice, sugar, milk powder, water bottles, blankets, candles, match boxes and medicines were distributed to the affected trainees and staffs. D o n B o s c o Te c h Manikandam team released a video “Pray for Chennai” in youtube. It insisted to accept finite disappointment but not to lose infinite hope. All these gestures, services and words of encouragement silently conveyed the message of love to everyone.

A 3-day training program for the trainers of Don Bosco Tech was organized by Intel at Don Bosco Skill Mission (DBSM), Bangalore from December14 to 16, 2015. Mr. Anthony Francis Sajan was the resource person and the master trainer from Intel. Altogether 19 trainers from different centres of Don Bosco Tech participated in the training program. Fr. Remesh Cherian (Asst. DirectorProgrammes, Don Bosco Tech) inaugurated the program. Mr. Stanley Jones (Head - L&D, Don Bosco Tech) gave a warm welcome to Mr. Anthony Francis Sajan. Mr. Antony Francis Sajan took over the session and started with a warm introduction about Intel with Easy Steps’ mission, vision and goal. The main objective of the training program was to accelerate access to technology in order

to increase and improve opportunities for productivity, effectiveness and leading to improved quality of life for all. During the three days training, trainers learned about the Intel Learn Easy Steps curriculum that comprises of basic course including modules on entrepreneurship and PC basics, activity cards, and a help guide. The trainers also learned were the activity cards, the help guide, Microsoft office, different s o f t w a r e l i k e AV C ( A n y Vi d e o Converter), Tux paint, Skype, creating a movie through windows movie maker, etc. In the training session, trainers also knew about internet concepts, different browsers, Google drive, sending mail, downloading video files from you tube without using any software, converting video file to mp3 format, etc. The three day training program concluded with a valedictory function where Fr. Arul Maran (Director, DBSM) was the Chief Guest. He along with Mr. Antony Francis Sajan and Mr. Stanley Jones distributed the certificates to the participants and gave words of motivation to all the trainers. Fr. Arul Maran also thanked Intel for organizing such training program.

Roshni batch initiation in Kandhmal district to impart valuable skill training to the youth in the LWA districts 24-year old Ghulam Mohd. Gojar Badana is a bright boy, who is now working successfully as General Service Assistance in Barbeque Nation. He was born in a poor family in Kangan city, Ganderbal district located in Jammu & Kashmir. The journey towards this success was not as smooth as it seems. He belongs to an economically backward family. His father, Mir Mohd. Badana works as a daily wage labourer in Kangan. Ghulam had a great vision for his life and was always searching for the means to achieve. He always looks out for an employment opportunity so that he could supplement the income and help his family. He never let his limited academic qualification come in the way of his success. During the course of his struggle to find a job with descent income, he came across the advertisement of Don Bosco Tech’s Himayat project in one of the local newspaper. With the hope to seek better future, he reached Don Bosco Tech centre in Kangan the very next day to learn and understand the prospect of undertaking the market oriented courses offered. After counselling and interest inventory test, he finally enrolled himself in the three months training in Hospitality domain. Ghulam was a brilliant trainee who impressed one and all with his performance during training period. He is a keen learner and took the training seriously. He always takes the lessons taught at the centre with a positive approach and acquainted himself with the basics etiquettes of Hospitality sector so that he can get a decent job in the same sector. After three months of intensive training in Hospitality domain, Ghulam finally passed out in a flying color. He being an optimistic for his career and bright future also successfully secured a job in Barbeque Nation during a campus placement. Mr. Syed Nageena (Centre Coordinator, Don Bosco Tech Himayat, Kangan) is all praise for him. He says, “Despite coming from the poor family, he had proven his mettle. He was a regular and a keen learner.” Ghulam is very thankful to Don Bosco Tech and Govt. of India for bringing a change in his life. “The training I received in Himayat program greatly infused a sense of confidence in my overall curriculum. It also taught me how to be self sustained and independent throughout my life,” says Ghul Ghulam Mohd. Gojar Badana.

Don Bosco Tech Society (Phulbani, Odisha) added another valuable milestone to its ever expanding venture to impart valuable skill development training to the underprivileged youth in the LWA districts. Don Bosco Tech (Phulbani, Odisha) inaugurated second batch of Retail & Sales, Hospitality and Electrician under Roshni program on November 6, 2015. The event began with the lighting of the candle by Mr. Devi Prasad Mahapatra (Project Head - Roshni, Don Bosco Tech) and other dignitaries. Don Bosco Tech Odisha state teams - Mr. Pradosh Kumar Satpathy (State Coordinator), Mr. Surath Kumar Jena (MIS Coordinator), Mr. Jyoti Ranjan Matha (Placement Coordinator), Mr. Pranaya Kumar Mohapatra (Cluster Coordinator) and Mr. Satya Sundar Mohapatra (Finance & Admin Executive) were present along

with Mr. Dabsis Mallick (Centre Coordinator, Don Bosco Tech, Phulbani), trainers and 87 trainees at the event. The trainees gave a warm welcome to all the dignitaries followed by the song “we shall overcome”. In his inaugural speech, Mr. Devi Prasad Mahapatra quoted, “Don Bosco Tech has occupied a prominent place in the history of skill development sector. In partnership with Govt. of India, Don Bosco Tech makes an effort to reach out the tribal youth in LWA districts for skill training and empower them for a meaningful life.” The guests interacted with the trainees and enquired them about their training process. Mr. Pradosh Kumar Satpathy described the importance of setting a goal and making a way towards achieving it. Mr. Jyoti Ranjan Matha spoke about placement as well as role of Don Bosco Tech to provide quality education to fulfil the employment gap and thereby creating a new horizon. Liza Zena (Trainee, Sales Associate) shared her experience and progress she felt after joining Don Bosco Tech. She says, “It is good to be a part of the knowledgeable and intensive training yet making the learning fun and interactive.” All guests addressed the gathering wished success to the trainees. The meeting was concluded with the vote of thanks by Mr. Bishnu Prasad Mallick (Trainer - Communicative English, DB Tech, Phulbani).

DDU-GKY batch inauguration in Dumka district to empower BPL youth by vocational training in Jharkhand A newly inaugurated Don Bosco Tech - SDC center (Dumka, Jharkhand) has opened its door to a new batch of trainees in various domains under DDUGKY program. The batch inauguration ceremony was held at SDC center on November 30, 2015. Rev. Bishop Julius Marandi presided over the event as the honourable Chief Guest. Fr. Sanatan Kisku (Centre In-Charge, Don Bosco Tech –SDC, Dumka), Mr. Abhishek (Centre Coordinator, Don Bosco Tech – SDC, Dumka), trainers and trainees were also present in the inauguration ceremony.

In his welcome speech, Fr. Sanatan Kisku welcomed the Chief Guest, all the dignitaries, staffs and trainees of Don Bosco Tech. The event proceeded with the newly enrolled trainees taking a pledge of conduct, value and dignity. This was followed by the lighting of the lamp by Rev. Bishop Julius Marandi and Mr. Abhishek. A group of trainees performed a beautiful welcome song. In his address to the students, Rev. Bishop Julius Marandi motivated the trainees by giving the extra-ordinary example and inspiring life story of Sri Din Dayal Upadhay. On a different note, he also spoke about the work of Narendra Modi on skill development. He thanked Don Bosco Tech for inviting him to the event. Bishop also showed his happiness towards the hospitality, the arrangement and the beautiful decoration. Altogether 89 trainees in General Duty Assistant, F&B Service and House Keeping domains, who belong from Masalia block of Dumka district, was the contributing factor to the diversity at the event. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Abhishek thanking everyone for contributing their precious time.
