HR Summit 2016: A forum to strengthen partnerships and exploring new job avenues
DDU-GKY: Inauguration of Don Bosco Tech centres in Simdega (Jharkhand)
As per the standard operating procedure of DDU-GKY, The Inauguration function started with a welcome song by Don Bosco Tech Society set-up two centres at Arouse trainees followed by the lighting of lamp by dignitaries. Broadening the horizon on the latest trends in Electrical sector On the eve of the New Year 2016, Electrical trainees of Don Bosco Tech (Luckhisarai, Bihar) visited Power Grid Station located at Lakhisarai to gain knowledge about the function of an electric station, various ways of wiring and precaution measures. Don Bosco Tech (Lakhisarai) organized this exposure visit with the motive to make the learning more interactive. On reaching the venue, trainees were warmly greeted by Mr. Vikash Kumar (Operator, Power Grid Station). Speaking to the trainees, Mr. Vikash gave a short introduction on Power Grid and said, “Electrical trade is one of the best trades and there are more chances of self development and micro entrepreneurship.” During the exposure visit, Mr. Vikash K u m a r enlightened the trainees on t h e functioning of transformer and supply of e l e c t r i c i t y. he briefed the trainees on the precaution measures to be taken very seriously to safe guard oneself from any untoward accident and continued with the information on conversion of voltage from high to low and viceversa. On visiting the workstation, trainees saw various types of power meters used in Power Grid Station. Trainees also saw different types of cranes and learned about its capabilities to lift heavy materials from one place to another. Safety is very important tool for this sector. Later, Mr. Vikash Kumar shared his own work experience. He discussed comprehensively on the necessities of safety rules, safety equipments and precaution. Electrical trainees were happy on having secured valuable grasp of knowledge relating to electricity that would boost not only their understanding but also their career in the future.
Aswini, 23-year old, comes from the one of the interior villages called Semmiyamangalam in Polur (Tamil Nadu). A family of four members found very hard to meet their daily needs. Most of the time, her father remained at home without any job. It was a crisis in the family with no income from any source. Her mother started to work as an agricultural daily laborer which was also not sufficient for them. Aswini, in her childhood determined to change her family’s situation as she witnessed the hardship of her poor mother. After her schooling, she started to work temporarily in some places. Aswini’s time of hardship started to change when she approached the training center with a help of her friend. While expressing her experience with Don Bosco Tech, Ashwini says, “Based on my interests, the trainers prompted me to join Retail Sales and Marketing training under Quest Alliance project. The three months intensive training has shaped my personality. I have totally experienced a new environment where I was given a freedom of learning. Digital lessons on Retail, English and life skills classes created remarkable transformation in the students like me. I am really thankful to Don Bosco Tech for reaching and empowering the rural students. The caring approach and support of trainers give us more confident to face our life.” Don Bosco Tech signed an agreement with QUEST Alliance for implementation of Skills to Succeed in Retail Blended Learning Program
Don Bosco Tech Society together with Don Bosco Vazhikaatti (DBV) organized an HR Summit at Don Bosco Tech State Office (Perambur, Tamil Nadu) on January 20, 2016. The objective of the summit was to have a productive dialogue on strengthening partnerships, strategizing, planning and exploring new avenues to boost up HR solutions and CSR activities. This one-of-a-kind initiative by DBV and Don Bosco Tech brought together HR practitioners from Allsec Technologies, Shoppers Stop, Big Bazaar, Techno Soft, Oriental Cuisines, National Guardian, Mahindra Finance, ION Exchange, etc. Rev. Fr. Raj, SDB (Editor, Salesian Bulletin) was the Chief Guest at the summit. Mr. Vasanth Ragavan (Allsec Technologies), Mr. Sharath (Quest Alliance) and Mrs. Dimple (Shoppers Stop) were invited as Guests of Honor for the summit. The guests were honored by Rev. Fr. The state team of Don Bosco Tech (Nagaland) came together at State Office (AIDA, Dimapur) to chalk out strategy for 2016 spearheading the Skilling India mission in North-East India on January 4 and 5, 2016. A total of 24 members of Don Bosco Tech from various centres were present at the planning cum meeting. The 2-day meet began with a key note address by Fr. Nebu Mathew (Economer, Salesian Province, Dimapur), where he advised the trainers to believe in the inner quality of the youth they train. Sharing the purpose and procedures of the meeting, Bro. Sunny Joseph (Province Coordinator, Don Bosco Tech) says, “These two days is a time to be together, recharge and set targets for ourselves as we c o n t i n u e accompanying t h e l e s s privileged youth another y e a r t o p r o v i d e q u a l i t y training, to overcome

Aswini was placed in Bharatham Store as a Sales Executive with a salary of Rs.6500. But now she is promoted as Office Administrator. She is drawing Rs.10000 per month which is exclusive of incentives. “My parents and I didn’t expect that I would achieve my dreams in a short period. I am so happy that my mother is relieved from our financial burdens,” she said. “We have a good number of Don Bosco Tech trainees working in our stores. With them, I have built a strong team, who are quite passionate and organized. Thanks to Don Bosco Tech for finding and moulding these deserving rural youth which turns them as the successful individuals in their career,” says Mr. Vignesh (Managing Director, Bharatham Stores, Chennai).

They updated the members on the existing formats that are used for sharing the data with departments and funding agencies. Formats related to finance were also discussed. Second day, Bro. Sunny Joseph facilitated the session presenting Batch Action Plan (BAP), new formats such as individual mobilization format, industrial visit format, induction program format, etc. ‘Mission 2016’ was shared with team and presented the targets to skill 2600 young people in 2016. The meeting cum planning concluded with an appeal to take comfort and be encouraged by the good being done to the youth who come to Don B o s c o Te c h skill training centre.

Mrs. Sindhu (Trainer- Communicative English and ITES, Don Bosco Tech). In his address, Fr. Raj spoke about the value of partnership and shared the impact created by the industrialists. He spoke about an eminent philanthropist and industrialist, Mr. Manoj Bhargava, who reformed and impacted the society around him with his humanitarian acts. He urged the professionals to be the catalyst to bring the change in the society. Mr. Dilip (Placement Coordinator, Don Bosco Tech) shared the words of gratitude and his story of transformation from a trainee to a Coordinator after joining Don Bosco Tech. Fr. Joseph Leo, SDB (Director, DBV) led a panel discussion on current job trends and strategies. The group shared their insights and experiences about developing healthy relationship between employer and employees, industry engagement to develop CSR activities, skills required for career growth and using digital technology in the training programs. The Summit concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Fr. Andrews thanking all the HR professionals present at the summit for the valuable inputs and making the program a success.
As a part of the advocacy campaign, 'Road Safety Week' is observed throughout the country every year in the month of January in order to highlight and emphasize the need for safety measures on roads. With the aim of raising awareness among the students to become responsible and cautious while on the road, the team at Don Bosco Tech (Phulbani, Odisha) organized a 'Road Safety Week' campaign on January 12 -18, 2016. The awareness drive was inaugurated by Mr. Debasish Mallick (Centre Head, Don Bosco Tech-Phulbani), who delivered an important talk on several safety measures. Other dignitaries present in the event were Mr. Sarat Chandra Das (Trainer-Retail & Sales, Don Bosco Tech), Mr. Nikhil Kumar Swain (TrainerH o s p i t a l i t y, D o n Bosco Tech), Mr. Bhagabat Nayak (TrainerElectrical, Don Bosco Tech) and Mr. Lalit Kumar Mallick (Community Mobilizer, Don Bosco Tech).
The event began with a speech by Mr. Bishnu Prasad Mallick (Trainer-Comm. E n g l i s h , D o n B o s c o Te c h ) congratulating the staff and trainees for taking such a noble and inspiring steps for safety drive. He says, “Today road safety is the key issue. It is important to take safety measures to reduce the risk of road accidents caused by the mistakes of people.” In his address, Mr. Sarat Chandra Das emphasized the purpose of this campaign and also stressed to highlight safety measures in the community, schools, colleges, work places, etc. Mr. Nikhil Kumar shared the major causes of road accidents and various precaution as well as measure that every individual should a d o p t . M r. Debasish Mallick presented the vote of thanks a n d t h e programme concluded with the N a t i o n a l Anthem.
Orienting the youngsters for a participatory process of transformation Six days orientation c u m interface program for the newly enrolled prospective students w a s initiated at Don Bosco T e c h (Nitika, West Bengal) on January 11-16, 2016. A total of 53 trainees form Hospitality domain under ITC project attended the program. The orientation cum interface program was organized with the intention to deepen the knowledge of the trainees with quality values and to develop one’s purpose in life. During these six days, trainees were involved in various games and life skill activities through which they were enlightened about goal setting, perception and values, time management, grooming, team building, money management, importance of communication, attitude and self esteem, etc. Mr. Gautam Maitra (Trainer, Don Bosco Tech, Nitika) expressed that these activities are very necessary to mould the young minds in order to understand their capacity and talents. Trainees also actively participated by preparing a presentation on different topics and issues. During the program, they performed confidently and responded very positively to the step-by-step approach to living with greater courage, balance, abundance and joy. At the same time, counseling and allocation of domains were also conducted. The induction program was concluded with the objective so that the trainees can have a motivated mind and a new beginning.
