Train New Trainers (TNT) Program: A joint initiative of Don Bosco Tech and Titan inaugurated at DBSM
The third batch of Train New Trainers (TNT) program in partnership with Titan Company Ltd. was inaugurated at Don Bosco Skill Mission (Bengaluru, Karnataka) on January 18, 2016. Don Bosco Tech strongly believes that quality trainers are the backbone of the skill training and placement of youth. Therefore, identifying and honing skills of potential trainers is critical. Train New Trainers (TNT) programme is designed in such a way that the participants are trained and mentored during a period of three months to make them youth development workers and good trainers. Mr. Sridhar N. E. (Head - Corporate Sustainability, Titan Company Ltd.) and Ms. Anita Rajan (COO, TATA Strive)
graced the inaugural function as the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively. Other dignitaries present were Ms. Prathibha A. N. (Consultant - Corporate Social Responsibility, Titan Company Ltd.), Mr. Bhaskar Natrajan (Head - Program Execution, TATA Strive), Fr. Arul Maran (Director, Don Bosco Skill Mission) and Fr. Remesh Cherian (Assistant Director - Programs, Don Bosco Tech Society). Fr. Arul Maran inaugurated the programme and shared the process involved in the selection of candidates for TNT program. Fr. Remesh Cherian highlighted the need of the project, particularly the importance of enhancing the skills of the trainers. The candidates also shared their experiences before joining the programme and discussed their expectations from the program. In his speech, Mr. Sridhar shared about his experience and learning from Titan and the importance of being humble, which he said is the most important quality of a trainer. He emphasized on the learning and quality aspects which should be the focus of every candidate during these three months of training. Ms. Anita Rajan discussed the requirement of the trainers to learn the skills of making learning fun for the candidates coming from weaker social, economic and educational background. Ms Prathibha conveyed her best wishes to the candidates to make the most out of the training program. All the dignitaries expressed their joy in being associated with Don Bosco Tech. The function concluded with a variety of cultural programs presented by the candidates.
Employment Orientation Fair 2016: Creating opportunity for Don Bosco Tech trainees Don Bosco Tech (Munger, Bihar) organized a job fair called ’Employment Orientation Fair –2016’ in collaboration with District Employment Office (Munger) and ITC Mission Sunehra Kal at Polo Ground in Munger on February 27, 2016. More than 20 well-known organizations like SBI Life Insurance, Life Insurance Corporation (LIC), SIS Security, Bardhaman Textiles, Hotel Clark Inn and Big Bazar were present in the fair for recruitment. Over 500 trainees from seven different centres of Bihar appeared for the interview out of which 300 were shortlisted for second round of interview in the subsequent days. The event was graced by the presence of Honorable Chief Guests Mr. S. K. Verma (Deputy Director, Department of Labour, Government of Bihar, Munger), Mr. N. K. Jha (Deputy Director, Labour Department, Government of Bihar, Patna), Mr. Ashish Anand (District Employment Officer, Government of Bihar) and Mr. Y. P. Singh (Manager, Corporate Affairs, ITC), Mr Rajesh Ranjan Jha (State Coordinator, Don Bosco Tech, Bihar), Mr Rakesh Kumar (State Placement Coordinator, Don Bosco Tech, Bihar), trainers and staff of Don Bosco Tech were present in the fair. Addressing the gathering, Mr. S. K. Verma spoke about the positive turnout of the youth at the fair. Thanking the Government of Bihar, Mr Verma said, “Earlier the Employment Fair was organized only in Patna but now it is organized in many districts of Bihar so that large number
people can benefit.” He congratulated ITC and Don Bosco Tech for their effort of skilling the youth of Bihar. Mr. Rajesh Ranjan Jha briefed about Don Bosco Tech and shared in detail the skill development projects are being implemented by Don Bosco Tech in the state so as to provide youth with skills and employment. The event provided opportunity for the trainees to face interview at their own hometown as well as test their skills and competence against the job market. The event was successfully organized under the guidance of District Employment Officer and ITC with the positive effort of Don Bosco Tech (Bihar).

QUEST 2 Learn Annual Summit 2016
Since the day trainees step into Don Bosco Tech centres, the one word or name that resonate often in their mind is the name Don Bosco. St. John Bosco who is lovingly called as Don Bosco is the founder of Salesians of Don Bosco and is a great human who motivated and impressed thousands of youth across the world with his admirable works to train underprivileged youth in various helpful skills. Remembering Don Bosco on his feast on January 31, Don Bosco Tech centres across India observed this day with inputs and reflections on the life of St John Bosco, his deep love and concern for the youth, especially the poor and abandoned. The life and growth of the Salesian Society in India was also presented during this occasion through various media. Don Bosco Tech (Vizag, Andhra Pradesh) organized an event at Beach Blossom Bridge School under the guidance of Fr. Thomas Thottiyil (Center Head) and Fr. Ratna Kumar (Asst. Director, Beach Blossom Bridge School). Rev. Fr. K. Joseph (Parish Priest) was the Honorable Chief Guest who graced the function with his kind presence. All the trainees and trainers of Hospitality and Retail & Sales domains of Don Bosco Tech (Vizag) were present at the function. In the welcome address, Fr. Thomas remembered the sacrifice and struggles that Don Bosco undertook to uplift the deprived youth of the society and emphasized on the purpose of celebrating the feast of St. John Bosco. He also adds, “Although his soul parted from his body
more than hundred years ago, he is still alive in the hearts of people who love him and the people whom he loved the most.” Speaking to the participants, Rev. Fr. K. Joseph enlightened the students on the opportunities and facilities provided by the Don Bosco Tech Society to the underprivileged youth. While appreciating the trainers, he noted that the service they rendered to the youth needs to be valued more than the earnings they get on this job. Later, prizes were distributed to the winners of several competitions held as a part of Don Bosco Feast Day celebration. At the end, Fr. Ratna Kumar concluded the program with a vote of thanks to the Chief Guest and trainees for participating at the event with energy and enthusiasm.
A story of a determined girl with Rising Star inspirational courage Reshma Munda
Reshma Munda was an ideal trainee of Don Bosco Tech (Muzaffarpur, Bihar). She belongs to Dhranipur village located at Nagarkata community block, Jalpaiguri district in West Bengal. Reshma’s father is a mentally challenged person, while her mother is illiterate. Every day the family members had to face the violent outburst of her father creating number of embarrassing moments for the family. Eventually, Reshma had to work in a tea garden and support her family as well as her studies with the meagre income. It was during the course of her struggles when she came to know about Don Bosco Tech which is located at Asha Deep (Muzaffarpur, Bihar) from her friend, thereby giving her a ray of hope for a secure future. At first, her mother was not ready to send her daughter to an unknown place, but somehow Reshma was able to convince her. She left her home to enroll in Don Bosco Tech and to secure a job with a loan of Rs. 2000/- that her mother took from a local money lender. Considering the financial challenges and difficult situation, she finally moved ahead to prove herself right and help her family financially. On reaching the Muzaffarpur, she went directly to Don Bosco Tech centre where she got herself enrolled in Hospitality (Housekeeping) domain. Initially when she had joined Don Bosco Tech, she was feeling nostalgic about leaving her family behind. But as time flew by between her training and other activities, she was able

It was a pleasant moment for Don Bosco Tech Society to witness recognition of five centers (Two centres in Karnataka, two centers in Kerala and one center in Tamil Nadu). These centres were awarded for their passion and commitment to help young people learn employable skills and start their careers. The awards were handed over by Mr. Akash Sethi (CEO, Quest Alliance) at the Indian Institute of Management, Bengaluru on February 10, 2016. Participation in this event gave a wider perspective towards ways of skilling and greater enthusiasm from the recognition of the work of Don Bosco Tech Society in the skill development sector.

At her age of 18, Reshma was full of gratitude and mature enough to handle any difficult situation with calm. She respected everyone and in return, every trainee liked her a lot. She took her training very seriously which made her one of the brightest trainee amongst her fellow trainees. After the successful completion of three months of training, she joined Hotel S. M. Grand (Darbhanga, Bihar) as a Housekeeper with a monthly salary of Rs 5000/- along with food and accommodation. It was her honesty and dedication that made her employer to praise her. Today, Reshma is not only helping her family financially but also able to send her younger sisters to school. She became a girl of inspiration to the numerous other girls of her village. Her mother says, “I am very happy with her work and also motivate her to continue her study with the work.” Reshma is grateful to Don Bosco Tech for making what she is today. She says, “Don Bosco Tech is a center where any helpless person can change his/her life and become independent through a job after completion of his/her training.” She further added that she can never forget the blessings of Fr. Jesuraj (Center Head, Don Bosco Tech, Muzaffarpur) and will remain indebted to him and all her trainers for their immeasurable support.
Don Bosco Tech Society, the preferred skill training partner of Quest Alliance participated in the ‘QUEST 2 Learn Annual Summit 2016’ which was organized by Quest Alliance on February 10 12, 2016. The theme for this Annual Summit was ‘The Education | Skills Divide’. On the last day of the summit, an exclusive workshop for QUEST partners was conducted. The central theme focused upon the belief that non-cognitive abilities are critical and need to be complemented with our learnt cognitive skills for success in life. At the 3-day summit, eminent speakers from the Government departments, institutes and corporate houses came together to explore the
Knowledge on wheels: Exposure visits to Golden Chariot and Science Express The Golden Chariot On February 12, 2016, Don Bosco Tech (Puducherry) organized an exposure visit for the Hospitality trainees to ‘The Golden Chariot’ stationed at Puducherry station. The Golden Chariot is a luxury tourist train that connects the important tourist spots in the Indian states of Karnataka, Goa, Kerala and Tamil Nadu as well as Puducherry. Students accompanied by Mr. Selva Kumar (ITES and Comm. Eng Trainer) and Mr. Omprakash (Hospitality Trainer) for the exposure visit. The group given a warm welcome by Mr. Murali (HR Manager, Golden Chariot) followed by a brief introduction about the train and its facilities. Later he introduced Mr. Tamilarasan (Sous Chef, Golden Chariot) to guide the trainees to all the departments and facilities provided on-board. During the tour of the luxury hotel on wheels, trainees visited all the departments, restaurants, luxurious rooms, lounge bar, spa and gym. The visit to Golden Chariot left the students spell bound with its interior design and facilities. It made them determined and motivated to work with such organizations in the future.
The Science Express Don Bosco Tech (Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh) had organized an innovative yet informative visit for its trainees to ‘Science Express’ at Bilaspur Railway Station. The Science Express is a unique exhibition mounted on 16coach AC train and has traveled across India creating awareness on several issues like climate change, micro and macro cosmos, strengths of science in meeting Global Challenges including discoveries and innovations, etc. Trainees accompanied by the trainers visited the Science Express on February 1, 2016. The visitors got detailed information and explanation on all the exhibits and subjects covered. Apart from the exhibition, trainees also participated in various other activities such as games, quiz, essay competition, group discussion, debate, etc. which was organized for all school and college students. Trainees were enlightened on climate change, global warming, need of sustainable development, nurturing awareness on environment issues, importance of conserving nature, etc. Trainees were happy for this opportunity to gain knowledge.
Don Bosco Tech celebrating three years of service to the youth of Kollam Celebrating third anniversary of its establishment, Don Bosco Tech (Kollam, Kerala) inaugurated its eleventh batch on February 23, 2016. The remarkable event in the journey to provide skill training were graced by the presence of Ret. Rev. Msgr. Jesudas K. J. (Vicar General), Dr. Sindha H. Mendez, (Professor, Karmala Rani B. Ed. College), Fr. Sunny Uppan (Center In-Charge), Mr. Shonit Augustine (State Coordinator- Kerala, Don Bosco Tech), Mr. Job K. Joseph (Asst. Coordinator – Kerala, Don Bosco Tech), Don Bosco Tech alumni and representatives from Vertex Customer Care Management Solutions, Carnival Group and Al-Manama Hypermarket. The inauguration ceremony was commenced with a prayer by the trainees and followed by lighting of the lamp by Ret. Rev. Msgr. Jesudas. In the welcome address, Fr. Sunny Uppan briefed the gathering about the initial days of starting the centre and the achievements that have come on its way. He delightfully announced that within three years of the establishment, the centre could provide job to nearly 600 youngsters of Kollam in various organizations. While addressing the gathering, Ret. Rev. Msgr. Jesudas acknowledged Don Bosco Tech for initiating the skill training programs for youth. He urged the students to utilize the opportunities and skills provided
to them during the training period to accomplish their goals. Initiating a session on ‘Life: Opportunities and Challenges’, Dr. Sindha H. Mendez presented a contextual lecture addressing the challenges faced by the students in their initial days of work. It was followed by a panel discussion with the representatives of Vertex Customer Care Management Solutions, Carnival Group, AlManama Hypermarket and alumni on training program, job opportunities, work experiences, etc. Ms. Shahira. S. S. (TrainerRetail, Don Bosco Tech, Kollam) were also honoured as Best Trainer at the event for her relentless and dedicated three years of service at Don Bosco Tech. Success stories of alumni were shared to motivate and encourage the present trainees. Finally, the event concluded with cultural programs by the students and vote of thanks by Mr. Hevin Vitus (Trainer- Communicative English, Don Bosco Tech, Kollam).
