A Systematic Learning to Achieve the Dream Don Bosco Credo is one of the values of DB Tech that says, “We believe that education is a 'matter of the heart' and the youngsters must not only be loved, but also guided properly for a sustainable future.” We, at Don Bosco always act as a facilitator who becomes a friend of the pupil because the students look upon his educator as a benefactor who advises him, wishes to make him good, to save him from trouble and from dishonour. The time spent in DB Tech campus certainly acts as a catalyst to do makeover in every aspect of their life. DB Tech campus has its unique culture and way of live. Every day is a learning curve for the trainees who enrolled in the skill training program. Besides the training, the hostel life certainly enables the trainees to take advice from the mentors in such a manner that the language of the heart presents a strong appeal to him not only during the time of his training, but even afterwards. What better way to experience campus life than to join them as a student for a day and practice the 24 hour routine activities. In that intention, a member from Communications team joined the troop to enjoy the culture, discipline and ambiance of DB Tech (AIDA). He noticed that the ringing bell sound is the only moving factor for the students which resonates the whole campus and signals everyone to perform their duty. In this Issue of UPDATE, we are sharing those activities conducted at the centre. By highlighting such best practices in this piece of publication, we expect other centres can implement the same in their centres. With that in mind, here you go...

Dear Friends, The legacy of Don Bosco is the system of education popularly known as ‘Preventive System’. It is a system of education well known in the world. It allows the young to grow in an atmosphere of friendship. Every young person is cared and followed up to reach his/her potential. This issue of UPDATE highlights the process of accompaniment of youth in our centres. Every activity is aligned to the holistic development of the individual namely, physical, social, psychological and mental growth. They are supported under friendly assistance by mentors. The industries and employers who walk into our centres for recruitment speak off trainees with ‘right attitudes’. In Don Bosco, we believe in the young and assist them to build right attitudes to life and society. With best wishes, Fr. A. M. Joseph

On May 19, 2013, Don Bosco Tech (Dimapur) spent its entire day working for the welfare of district civil hospital as a part of social work. About 35 participants, including trainers from two DB Tech centres located in Dimapur took part in this social activity. Materials like, lime, painting brush and trees for planting in the campus were taken along. The trainees did a good job of white washing the wall of drug de-addiction centre at the hospital, cleaned the OPD section, rewrote the sign boards and planted trees in the campus. Don Bosco Tech organized this social event with the twin aim of reciprocating the service the hospital management is doing to Don Bosco Tech (Dimapur) by accommodating the BSA trainees of 3rd Mile centre for practical exposure. This social initiative also instils among the trainees the habit of doing something for the society in exchange of the free training they are receiving. The hospital authorities expressed happiness over the inventiveness of Don Bosco Tech in organizing such a supportive event.

I visited Himayat centre (Budgam) on June 1, 2013. I had heard about many things being done here, but everything turned out to be more than expected. Such helpful volunteers, learning youth and the overall atmosphere are amazing. Future of the Kashmiri youth lies in activities like those being carried out by the DB Tech at Himayat centre. Wishing you all the very best.
