Honourable Governor Inaugurates the BASE Program at DB Tech (Sonada, West Bengal) DB Tech (Sonada) organized the inauguration ceremony to initiate first batch of Bosco Academy of Skills and Employment (BASE) program on June 2, 2014. On this auspicious day, his excellency Shri M. K. Narayanan (Governor, West Bengal) was invited as the Chief Guest with some other eminent guests including Mrs. Nirala Lama (Executive Assistant, Gorabari, Sonada Gram Panchayat), Mr. Manowar Hossain (Child Protection Officer, Darjeeling), Fr. (Dr.) Shaji Joseph (Rector, Don Bosco, Sonada), Fr. (Dr.) George Thadathil (Principal, Salesian College, Sonada) and Fr. George Chempakathinal (Vice-Principal, Salesian College, Sonada). Fr. (Dr.) Shaji Joseph welcomed the guests. Shri M. K. Narayanan inaugurated the first batch of BASE program with 72 students in Hospitality Management. He shared his experiences to motivate the students and help them to understand the value of the career oriented programme offered by DB Tech.
Monitoring Visit by Godrej to DB Tech (Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh)
To assess the training being provided to the beautician domain trainees, Ms. Shradha Anand from Godrej visited DB Tech (Jhansi) on June 18, 2014. Br. Mani (Centre Head, DB Tech, Jhansi), Mr. Abnish Janardan (State Coordinator) and Mrs. Baby Saluja (Trainer-Beautician, DB Tech, Jhansi) were present there to welcome the guest. The trainees at DB Tech (Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh) were offered placements by Hotel Green Park on May 14, 2014. Mr. Narendra (HR Manager, Hotel Green Park) was invited to take the interview of trainees. He interacted with the trainees before the campus interview. He gave a brief presentation on Green Park Hotel and also discussed salary structure, job profile , workplace situation, terms and conditions.

DB Tech centre located at Srinagar (J&K) welcomed Shri Arvind Kumar Choudhary (CEO, BRLPS, Bihar) on May 30, 2014. He was accompanied by Mr. Manickraj (State Representative, Himayat). He interacted with the trainees and inquired about their understanding of the project. He shared pieces of advice to the trainees as to how they should make use of the training by taking up a career in the same sector. Shri Arvind even took time to interact with the trainers and state team members to understand more about the operations and the strategies adopted for successful implementation of the project. Later, he visited the classrooms to take stock of the practical facilities and other amenities provided to the trainees. Before leaving, he left a remark: “The centre is very well maintained; and the trainers are motivated and skilled. I am happy to visit the DB Tech centre under Himayat project. My best wishes are for the programme.”
Commemoration of the Tri-Fest at DB Tech (Manikandam, Tamil Nadu)
The entire campus of DB Tech (Manikandam) was filled with bliss and buoyancy on June 15, 2014 for the commemoration of the Tri-Fest, which involved the inauguration of Himayat Batch I and Quest Alliance Batch III, and also the distribution of certificates to the students of Quest Alliance batch II and parent’s meet. Mr. David Rajan and Mrs. Sughanthi (Sub-Inspector, Tamil Nadu Police, Manikandam) were the Guests of Honor. Rev. Fr. Agilan, SDB (Centre Head, DB Tech, Manikandam) presided over the
ceremony. The ceremony began with a prayer song by the trainees, followed by the welcome speech delivered by Rev. Fr. Agilan. He then felicitated the Guests of Honor by presenting ‘souvenirs’ and dawning ‘shawls’. Then Mr. David Rajan delivered an inspiring speech, which indeed stimulated the students to plan for a better living. Later, Rev. Fr. Agilan, SDB thanked parents for sending their children for the training programme. He then briefed about the DB Tech, its dictum and guided them as to how to lead their children.
Taking Stock of State Level BASE Implementation at DB Tech (Vaduthala, Kerala)
A batch review was organized at DB Tech (Vaduthala) on June 18, 2014. DB Tech trainers from all over Kerala region attended the review session. The session started with a prayer by Rev. Fr Jeeson. Batch Review is a platform where the trainers share their experiences and efforts they have put in throughout the batch to get the best result. The workshop was inaugurated with an introductory talk by Fr. A. M. Joseph (Executive Director, DB Tech) in which he stressed on the need of caring for the youth. DB Tech students are preferred by the companies because of their discipline. He urged the trainers to give their best to carry forward and fulfil DB Tech’s mission. The sessions for two days were handled by Ms. Renu. She gave an idea on how to deliver life skill class. This training was a process of unlearning and relearning. The participants were introduced to new activities, tools and methodology of handling life skill lessons. During the training, many concepts were clarified. In this 10-day training program, the trainers were equipped with enough armor and tools to ensure that they will be able to handle any situation that they may come across. It gave them confidence to enhance themselves in their effort to become a life skills champion.

Exposure Visit to Hotel Emerald by DB Tech (Hatia, Jharkhand) Trainees
An exposure visit was organized for BASE trainees of Hospitality domain under ABF project on June 14, 2014. A number of 18 trainees visited Hotel Emerald (Ranchi) accompanied by Hospitality trainer, Mr. Arvind Kumar. The trainees were eager to visit the hotel and to collect practical knowledge about the sector. On reaching the hotel, they were divided into groups to understand and learn effectively. DB Tech believes that ‘Life skill’ is the next level for skilling India. More than the technical skills, it is soft skill or life skills that the society values. In order to equip the trainers to handle themselves and the youth they work for, a 10day ‘Life Skill Champions’ workshop was organised by DB Tech on June 2-10, 2014 at Don Bosco Provincial House, Bangalore. 31 participants from 10 states took part in the program. Ms. Renu and Mr. Tamal from Blue Sky Learning were invited as the resource persons.
arbenla belongs to Ao community and the only child in her family. Ao community is a dominant Naga community of Nagaland. Before she joining the training program, she was studying in Prabanada Women's College located at Dimapur (Nagaland). She could not appear her intermediate examination due to financial problem in the family. Being discouraged she was sitting idle at home. One day, she came to know from her cousin about DB Tech and its skill training programme ‘Bosco Academy for Skills and Employment (BASE)’. It provides domain specific skill training in association with MoRD to the school dropouts. It really motivated her to join the BASE programme at DB Tech centre located in AIDA (Dimapur, Nagaland). She enrolled Beauty and Spa domain after appearing Interest Inventory test and attending counseling session. She joined the training with the expectations to learn new things and get a job in any big salon. Initially, Marbenla did not know the value of soft skills. The training programme helped her learn soft skills such as time management, money management along with basic computer knowledge and domain related technical knowledge. The training
really helped her to develop her skills and talents through theoretical and practical sessions, mock tests, demonstrations, and industrial exposure visits. DB Tech's training focuses on the overall development of a candidate. It not only helps them build their personality but also instills the required skills, which later help them to get a respectable job. At the end of the 3-months training, campus interview was arranged for the placement of the DB Tech trainees, Marbenla was asked to give interview for Taj Vivanta through Skype. Luckily she got selected at Taj Vivanta (Gurgaon) and working there happily till date. She got selected as a Spa Therapist at a monthly income of Rs. 10000. On getting the job she said , "I will work really hard to become independent. From the training programme, I have learnt several things, it has taught me to be confident and to be a leader. At the end of training, my trainers helped me to face the interview. As a result, I got an opportunity to work with Taj Vivanta. I am glad to support my family members with my salary. I am really grateful to DB Tech and its trainers for giving me this wonderful opportunity.”
World Environment Day Celebration at DB Tech (Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh) DB Tech (Bilaspur) celebrated Environments Day on June 5, 2014. Sr. Kusum shared her views on Environment Day and briefed the students on the significance of celebrating this day worldwide each year. The trainers also involved themselves sharing their opinions on environment among the trainees. One of the students gave a speech on planting trees and its use. Later, all the staff members and trainees planted different samples in the training centre premises. The students were happy to be a pat of such celebration. They were of the view that today they have realized the true importance of planting trees and what role they play in our day to day life.
DB Tech Puts the Footprint on Uttarakhand by Initiating the Skill Training Program The first batch of BASE program was inaugurated at DB Tech (Haldwani, Uttarakhand) on June 13, 2014. Mr. Gurvinder Singh Chadda (Social Worker) was invited as the Chief Guest for the inaugural function. Sr. Merry (Centre Head), Sr. Louise, other dignitaries, students and their parents were also present at the function. Beginning with the session, Mr. Gurvinder Singh Chadda lighted the lamp followed by a warm welcome message by Mr. Abnish Janardan (State Coordinator). He highlighted that the program has been introduced to instill skills among the underprivileged youth. In his inspiring speech, Mr. Gurvinder mentioned social analysis along with future vision and shared some of his experiences. He even focused on the four important aspects of success and sincere hard work i.e. knowledge, wisdom, sincerity and participatory hard work.
