DB Tech participated in the launching ceremony of 'DAY' The Govt. of India announced an overarching scheme for uplift of urban and rural youth through skill development on September 25, 2014. The scheme has been named as Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana (DAY). The announcement was made by Shri M.Venkaiah Naidu (Minister of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation, Govt of India) and Shri Nitin Gadkari (Minister of Rural Development, Govt. of India) at a National Convention on Skills for Rural and Urban Poor at the Hotel Ashok in Delhi. A group of 50 DB Tech alumni from various skill development projects funded by MoRD (Govt. of India) participated in the convention. Besides that a team from National Office led by Fr. George Quadros, sdb (Asst Director, DB Tech) were also invited to represent DB Tech in the big platform. Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana will work towards empowering the population through enhancement of livelihood opportunities. Addressing the gathering, M Venkaiah Naidu, said, “Under the current urban poverty alleviation programmes, only 790 cities and towns are covered and the Government has decided to extend these measures to all the 4,041 statutory cities and towns.” Under the scheme, `1,000 crore has been provisioned for urban poverty alleviation during 2014-15, out of which `500 crore will be spent on skill development of over 5,00,000 urban poor. Mr. Raman Jasotia and Mr Salim Mohammad, two of DB Tech’s alumni got an opportunity to share their stories of change. I used to work in a small hotel in Kathua (J&K). One day I contacted my friend working in Chennai after getting trained at DB Tech. He told me about DB Tech that provides life skills, communication skills and computer knowledge along with training in a market driven domain. I visited the centre located in J&K and chose the Hospitality domain. During the training I was trained to work in the Hospitality sector. After completing the training, I have got the job at a monthly salary of Rs. 8000. I request the unemployed youth to come Salim Mohammad up and join this programme. I am extremely thankful to DB Tech centre (DB Tech Alumnus) located in Kathua for giving me this great opportunity.

Being 10th pass I was unable to find a job but by joining DB Tech today I am employed in Delhi. The moment I got to know about DB Tech from one of my friends, I decided to join it. From the different courses offered at the centre, I opted for Hotel Management, where I got the chance to learn communication skills along with domain knowledge. Now, with the salary I am earning today, I am not only looking after the family expenses but also bearing my further education expenses. I would like to thank DB Tech and Raman Jasotia Govt. of India for running out this wonderful training programme.

Awareness among the Parents on Importance of Skill Training DB Tech (Diamond Harbour, West Bengal) centre team arranged Parents and Trainers meeting under ITC project on September 20, 2014. The meeting started with a warm welcome speech by Mr. Tapas Kumar Ray (Trainer, ITES, DB Tech) in presence of Rev. Fr. M. C. Francis (Parish Priest, Diamond Harbour Church), Rev. Fr K K Sebastian (Asst. Parish Priest, Diamond Harbour Church) and Bro. Chacko (Center In Charge, DB Tech). Over 27 parents and guardians were invited to participate the meeting. Rev. Fr. M. C. Francis interacted with the parents by helping them to understand the importance of the entire program and how it will help their children for

their better life. He explained to the trainees that this course is not only imparting training and providing job but also building the life of the youth and develop their personality to move forward. Br. Ckhako assured them that all the facilities will be provided to the students only for completing the course successfully. Mr. Koushik Roy (Trainer, Hospitality) and Mr. Suvankar Bose (Trainer, Security) took the initiative to help the parents to understand the process of the empowerment. At the end, parents were really happy and satisfied. They expressed their gratitude by thanking DB Tech for giving this kind of opportunity to the youth. The meeting concluded with vote of thanks.

A Tribute to the DB Tech Trainers on Teacher’s Day Teacher’s Day is celebrated as a mark of tribute to the contribution made by teachers to the society on September 5 every year. This day is the birthday of a great teacher Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, who was a staunch believer of education, and was the well-known diplomat, scholar, president of India and above all a teacher. The trainees of DB Tech (Trikuta Nagar, J&K) took this initiative to organise a function to celebrate and make their trainers feel special and privileged on September 5, 2014. The trainees performed various activities such as cultural skits, dramas and folk dances. They also thanked their trainers and said it loudly that they owe a

lot to their trainers, who work hard throughout the year selflessly and make efforts to impart best training to their students. They acknowledged the efforts and hard work of their trainers. Ms. Simple Jamwal (BPO Trainer, DB Tech) shared on the importance of the relationship between teacher and student. She advised the trainees to be faithful, obedient and diligent. Ms. Prerna Sharma (Centre Coordinator, DB Tech) thanked the trainees on the behalf of entire team. She delivered vote of thanks and encouraged trainees to work hard and achieve their goals. It was a great day. The whole centre was immersed in an atmosphere of gaiety.

Helping the Guardians to Understand the Transforming Process DB Tech (Muniguda, Odisha) team organized a Parents Meet under PACS project on September 11, 2014. The main objective of this meeting was to educate and aware the parents about project and how it will enhance their economic condition. Mr. Pranya Kumar Mahapatra (Cluster Coordinator, DB Tech) delivered the inaugural speech. In his speech, he explained about DB Tech’s aim and objectives for imparting such skill training to needy youth. He also highlighted the roles and responsibility of the parents to make the program successful. Fr. Sony (Centre In-Charge, Muniguda) explained the details related to disciplinary rules and regulations. He said that willingness and positive attitude could help

the youth to achieve success. Addressing the gathering, he said, “DB Tech brings this golden opportunity for you so that through this program you can get a chance to be a part of this development India.” Mr. Shankar Behera (Centre Coordinator, DB Tech) shared case stories of successful students. Parents raised number of questions related to placement, job, salary, safety and security of the girls in job location. The domain trainers clarified all their doubts. At the end, Mr. Bhagat Nayak (TrainerElectrical) expressed his gratitude to all the participants for their valuable time.

A Session on SMART Model of Goal Setting On September 12, 2014, the students at DB Tech (Katni, Madhya Pradesh) centre participated in an activity based session on ‘Goal Setting’. Suraj Prakash Dubey (Trainer, Electrical) and Kamlesh Kumar Mishra (Trainer, Security Domain) were invited as resource persons for the session. Students from all the domains of the DB Tech centre participated in the activity. Opening the session, Fr. A. Jagan Raj (Center Head, DB Tech, Katni) highlighted the importance of the life. He told the trainees that they must set the goal for their life and prepare their mind to grow step by step for the better future.

The resource person also advised the trainees to have a goal for a week first, then for a month, later for six months and then for one year and at last for five years. Towards the end, he explained SMART Model based on goal which is specific, measurable, achievable, results-focused, and time- bound. Before winding up, the trainees shared their experience by saying that it was a great experience for them. They were feeling quite positive after participating in such an activity.

DB Tech Students Published an In-house Magazine 'Spandanam' Trainees of DB Tech (Mampetta, Kerala) published of an in-house magazine 'Spandanam' which was launched on August 28, 2014. Mr. Anilson James (BPO Trainer, DB Tech, Mampetta) welcomed the gathering. Fr. Shibu Davis (Rector, Don Bosco College, Mampetta) officially released the magazine that includes poems, stories and articles written by the trainees. As the name 'Spandanam' indicates that it's the heart beats of the trainees and will be an everlasting memory of the batch. The function was presided over by Fr. Shibu Davis, who emphasized on the importance the magazine and how it helps in bringing out the creativity among the students. He pointed out the need of support to be provided to the trainees to promote and develop their skills and abilities. Mr. Shinu P.B. appreciated the students for their wonderful effort.

Monitoring Visit by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) Dr. Sapna Poti (Principal, MIS and Monitoring, NSDC) had visited DB Tech (Maligaon) on August 30, 2014. She visited the centre as a part of monitoring the training activities of the NSDC project. She took a session in a class of around 70 students. She spoke about the training program and encouraged the students to learn the trade very honestly. She also interacted with students asking them about their interests and goals. Dr. Sapna explained how does NSDC works with government and different companies to provide the sponsorship for the skill training and placement. She visited the classrooms and practical labs to see the equipments used for

training. Her visit to the centre bought a positive response among DB Tech students to study and learn the trade well. Moreover the program was a success as the students learned many new things and made their goals very clear for the future.

Avinav Kumar Visited the DB Tech Centre under PACS Project A team from Poorest Areas Civil Society (PACS) led by Mr. Avinav Kumar (Head of Knowledge Management and Innovation, PACS) visited DB Tech (Jehanabad, Bihar) on August 27, 2014. Mr. Vivek Kumar (Trainer, DB Tech) welcomed the guests with Rajan Barnard (Cluster Coordinator, DB Tech, Bihar), trainees and other staff. The project is being funded by PACS to empower the youth from socially excluded communities. The dignitaries interacted the students from different domains (Hospitality, Retail & Sales, Automobile). During the student interaction, they were eager to know about the training method, learning interest of students and their readiness for the placements after completing the training. The trainees even presented few demonstrations according to their trades.

Mr Avinav Kumar was happy to interact with the students and distributed the training kits among the trainees. He also inspected the hostel rooms, practical labs and computer facility room with his team. They were of the view that the students are well dressed, well behaved, possess a strong will to complete the training successfully and get placed in the industry.

Ms Fran Schmitt (Dietitian Nutritionist) Interacted with DB Tech Trainees Ms. Fran Schmitt RDN (Registered Dietitian Nutritionist) from United States of America visited DB Tech (Gagillapuram, Andhra Pradesh) to interact with the trainees on September 29, 2014. Rev. Fr. V. T. Philip sdb, Rev. Fr. P. Arul Das, sdb (State Head, Don Bosco Tech, Hyderabad) and Mr. K. Sridhar (State M&E and MIS Coordinator, DB Tech, Andhra Pradesh) were also present at the occasion. Trainees welcomed Ms. Fran Schmitt by presenting self prepared bouquets. Rev. Fr. Philip introduced her to the students and briefed them about the purpose of her visit. Ms. Fran Schmitt then interacted with the students and advised them to continue their education. She is completely impressed with the three months training programme that not only

When she completed her 12th standard, she was completely clueless for her further studies. Poor financial circumstances in the family became a black cloud upon her with regard to further studies. Owing to the difficulties in the family, she wanted to do some job to support her family. No one was there to give her a job as she was not skilled to work. This situation quietly dipped her into the disappointment; and her family too was anxious about her future. Her mother was the only bread winner in the family; and she had to feed the entire family with a meager income by running a small shop. As she lost her father in the childhood, she was hopeless indeed. When she was sitting idle at home with lot of anxiety about the future, a relative came to her home. She brought good news for her and the family. The relative informed her that the DB Tech (Dimapur) conducting vocational training programs of short duration for the young people in the locality. The very next day she visited the DB Tech center in Dimapur and gathered information regarding the courses. After giving Interest Inventory test, she was selected for Spa course at the BASE training centre. Her decision to join BASE training was a crucial turning point in her life that changed her life completely. During the training, she was very active and interested to give attention to every detail of training. She was keen to develop soft skill and communication skills. She improved her English and etiquettes in such a way that eventually helped her getting a placement in Jiva Spa, Vivanta by Taj in Thiruvananthapuram. She joined Jiva Spa, Vivanta by Taj in Thiruvananthapuram as a therapist and has already completed two years. Today, as a senior therapist she is
