ETCHING

Deep Etch, 6 x 9”

1 available, Unframed $275

Free Shipping within Continental US

Visit DCArtPress.com for more details.

Deep Etch is a term refers to the depth of the etched line in the metal plate that holds the ink. A normal etched line can be 1/64” in depth for a dark line. A deep etch line will be three to four times deeper and much wider in width. It is a bit harder to print as the line holds so much ink, more press pressure is required to pull the ink out of the lines onto the paper. The inked lined will actually stand in relief there is so much ink.

I would coat the metal plate with a heavier and softer layer of acid resist wax and draw through that with a sharp wood point creating a thicker line. Drawing through the wax, exposes the metal plate. The exposed areas of the metal plates are etched when submerged into an acid bath. The length of exposure determines the depth of the etch which in turn determines the darkness and intensity of the line.

WATERCOLORS

Millennium Bridge Project Proposal

Summer 2001

The architect for the bridge was considering a folio of woodblocks printed in a small edition as a gift to funders. Sadly, the project was never funded.

The bridge is between the north end of the 16th Street Mall and Chestnut Street. It spans what’s left of the railroad tracks.
