MAYAN NEW YEAR FESTIVAL

It is well known that the Mayan culture was an avid connoisseur of astronomy and in a highly disciplined manner followed the movement of the stars to schedule and typify the importance of events that occurred on earth, in total synchrony with what was happening in the sky.

According to the Mayan calendar “Haab” which accurately follows the cycle of the earth in relation to the sun, the Mayan astronomers determined that for them, the cycle of the year did not begin in January, unlike the Gregorian calendar that governs our cycles and that we inherited from Roman culture; The Mayans measured time by calculating up to 18 cycles linked by the movements of the main luminaries of our system (Moon and Sun), as well as by the planetary transits of Venus and the location of constellations such as the Pleiades.

According to this calculation, on July 26 of each year, it began a new cycle and a new personality that characterized the new year and that was identified with its own glyph or codex that this year 2023 corresponds to the WHITE WIZARD / WAAY and Codices Mayas pays tribute to it in our always original way.
