The county is dotted with castles, monuments, museums and other intriguing places to satisfy your cultural appetite. One of the most renowned of these is Beamish, The Living Museum of the North, which is running its Summer of Fun event throughout the holidays. The interactive, open air museum never fails to deliver in immersing both children and adults alike in the reality of Britain in the 1820s, 1900s and 1940s.

As great as summer can be when the skies are blue and the sun is shining, you can’t always rely on the weather. But don’t worry – we’ve got you covered. There’s loads of stuff to get your teeth into that will offer a roof over your head and keep the whole family entertained during the inevitable downpours. It’s on these grey days that cinemas and theatres really shine. If you really want to make the most of it, why not take your little ones to Down at the Farm? Not only are there farm animals to meet, but also some more exotic creatures including meerkats and raccoons, and you can even take a quad bike for a spin, along with other exhilarating activities. a summer holiday pass for Down at the Farm For the chance to win a summer holiday pass for a family of four at Down at the Farm, valid for use from 21 July to 2 September, simply tell us: What is a young donkey called? Weekys o6ut! Super da

The city of Durham is famous for its idyllic atmosphere and historical significance. With the imposing figures of the cathedral and the castle looming over the city below, it’s hard not to imagine how it looked in centuries gone by. Aside from these two pillars of Durham’s past, there are other notable places that are just as beautiful including Crook Hall. An afternoon spent strolling through its gardens, touring the 13th century building and savouring a cream tea is always time well-spent. The Grade 1 listed hall is hosting a special event on Saturday 26 and Bank Holiday Monday 27 August where little superheroes are invited to come together to celebrate their great deeds with three very special guests… So, the question is: do you know any superheroes? 26
