Not too long ago, a catalog was placed on my desk with 2012 printed across the front. I asked, “Is this one of the old Quarterly Impression Catalogs?” The answer was, “No, that was our annual supplies catalog.” I was stunned after hearing that because it was only 176 pages! I became overwhelmingly proud to know that DC Dental has come so far in the past 3 years by becoming a direct dealer with the top dental manufacturers. To put things in perspective, our 2014-2015 catalog is a whopping 544 pages and our upcoming 2015-2016 catalog, debuting this quarter, will expand on that further! D R . AW O F O LU We sat down and had a chat with Dr. Omoteniola Awofolu in her outstanding office designed by DC Dental. The following is the conversation with Dr. Awofolu: DC Dental: What motivated you to go into dentistry? Dr. Awofolu: My family dentist actually. I was a premed student in college but did not have a passion for it. I remembered a conversation I had had at the age of seventeen with my dentist mentioning a career in dentistry. I subsequently volunteered at a dental office and never looked back since! I loved the atmosphere and the artistry involved with dentistry. DC Dental: Do you have any tricks to make your patients feel comfortable? Dr. Awofolu: When I meet my patients, I try to connect with them on a personal level to make my office and presence seem less intimidating. I have also found that having soothing background music, or movies or even the option of Netflix helps put them at ease. If all else fails, oral sedation with nitrous is a great back up plan.
DC Dental: What has been your proudest moment and your biggest challenge? Dr. Awofolu: Graduating from dental school was my proudest moment. I would say that my biggest challenge was opening up my office. DC Dental: Where do you see dentistry in 5-10 years? Dr. Awofolu: I see dentistry moving more towards the integration of modern technology with patient centered care. DC Dental: What would you say to someone getting into the field of dentistry? Dr. Awofolu: I would say it’s a great field to be in as there are so many opportunities within the profession itself.

DC Dental: If you had to give someone advice on a startup, what would you say? Dr. Awofolu: I would tell them to do their research on the patient demographics and the location of their choice. Having a good accountant and lawyer and taking the appropriate business and CE courses are critical in the beginning. I would also tell them to be ready to work hard and that all the sacrifice and hard work will pay off eventually. DC Dental: How do you use your talents and skills to give back? Dr. Awofolu: I volunteer at my local community dental fair annually.

Dr. Awofolu: Prior to using DC dental, I had tried 2 other dental companies and found that they were not good fits. I had a lot of difficulties getting the equipment that I needed within my budget. Plus the representatives were not always readily available to discuss my concerns. What I really liked about DC dental was the ease at which Eddie Ash and I communicated, stayed within my budget for the equipment in my office and helped with the design of my treatment rooms. Eddie Ash was also present during the construction phase of my practice which was invaluable. DC Dental: Would you recommend DC Dental? Dr. Awofolu: Absolutely! DC dental is a great resource for any dentist as myself, start up or otherwise looking to equip their office.
