DR. AND
REW THO
MPSON,
DDS
We sat down and had a chat with Dr. Andrew Thompson, DDS in his outstanding office designed by DC Dental. The following is the conversation with Dr. Thompson. DC Dental: What or who influenced you to go into dentistry? Dr. Thompson: There was a conversation I had at our house with my dad just 2 miles from here. I wanted to be in business just like him. We were talking on the deck and he said “I’m flattered and I am so glad that you want to follow in my footsteps, but you’ve got a great, sharp mind. What else are you interested in?” I thought medical stuff because I was always strong in science. My dad said, “Have you ever thought about mixing the two? Dentistry is a business and medical.” So, that got the ball rolling. It is actually in my high school yearbook that I wanted to be a dentist. It kind of stuck. I’m goal driven, so when I set a goal, I work my hardest to make it happen. DC Dental: What has been your proudest moment in your dental career so far? Dr. Thompson: Serving and doing dental mission trips. When you are able to take the
skills God has given you and use them for the good of another, I think that is my proudest moment. I have been to Ethiopia and Morocco once and Jordan twice. Just seeing the immense needs in different parts of the world and being able to help just a little has been very rewarding. DC Dental: If you could go back 5-6 years, what advice would you give yourself upon leaving dental school? Dr.Thompson: I probably would have started my practice earlier. I waited 9 years working for someone else, but at the same time I might not have been ready or been in the financial place to do what I did here, so it is hard to say. For me this was part of Gods timing. It is very hard to separate my faith from myself and the decisions I have made in my career. DC Dental: How do you use your skills to give back? Dr. Thompson: I have always had a desire to use my gifts overseas. The need is tremendous.

A lot of what we do is partner with a local church and help them serve the people that they are already serving. In Jordan there is a small church that is helping serve Syrian refugees coming across the border. DC Dental actually contributed to that mission trip by donating supplies. In Morocco they are poor and sugar is cheap. We were just helping the kids who couldn’t sleep at night or couldn’t eat. We set up little clinics that I have in a suitcase with all of my supplies in a school, church or in someone’s office. You come back from these trips very grateful and you realize what a privilege it is to serve those in need - even if you are just extracting a tooth.
