Dear readers, In front of you, is the third annual publication of InFocus Italy, dedicated to the overall relations between Italy and Serbia. Italy is one of the most important foreign trade partners of our country. In the bilingual texts, we present the economic relations between the two countries: the Italian companies and their successes in Serbia, as well as the local companies which cooperate with the Italian. On the other hand, through interviews with Italian and Serbian officials, we gave an overview of the importance of bilateral and economic cooperation. L'Italia è uno dei più importanti partner del commercio estero del nostro paese. There are thousands of traditional and regional Italian desserts. However, the most famous one abroad, the tiramisù, was only invented in the 1970's.

dialogue is the right way to bolster the business environment and help our business people to develop their companies," says Branko Ružić, Minister for Public Administration and Local Self-Government, which has the jurisdiction over many laws that have recently improved the business environment.

What are your expectations from further public administration reforms in terms of raising the quality of services for domestic and foreign investors?

— If we want more investments, the public administration has to ensure that investors use the services provided by the state and local governments simply and quickly. This will lead to a reduction in the costs associated with their market entry, as well as shorten the entire

Quali sono le Sue aspettative in merito a un'ulteriore riforma della pubblica amministrazione per quanto riguarda il miglioramento della qualità del servizio offerto agli investitori nazionali e stranieri?

— Se vogliamo maggiori investimenti, l'obbligo della pubblica amministrazione è quello di garantire che gli investitori utilizzino in modo semplice e rapido i servizi forniti dallo Stato e dalle autorità locali.

The best way to illustrate this, I would like to mention the curtailing of the required paperwork and the time spent by business people in contact with us, all owing to the new Law on Administrative Procedure, as well as the digitalization of the building permit issuance procedure, which significantly boosted the activity in this branch.

The affordable workforce should not be the only competitive advantage, and it is important that we continue building the economic and business environment which will facilitate all the conditions that will attract investments, and in which public administration plays one of the key roles.

How would you rate the past achievements in the implementation of the Law on General Administrative Procedure, in the context of improving the predictability of the business environment?

— This law has the widest impact since all citizens and business people participate in numerous procedures on a daily basis in order to realize or have certain rights recognized. Also, this law is implemented by the largest number of civil servants at the state, provincial and local level. It also contains new solutions that directly influence the creation of a better business environment and it truly represents the first step on our path to creating an efficient, responsible, professional and modern administration.

At the same time, it is very important for us to standardize the procedures, that is, to achieve uniformity in the activities of the relevant state bodies so that business people are not faced with a situation, where one rule applies in one city, and another rule in a different city. We have managed to resolve this for the most part through standardizing 188 procedures, that is, services provided to citizens and business people at the local level.

Ciò porterà ad una riduzione dei costi del loro ingresso nel mercato e ad una riduzione dell'intero periodo necessario per l'avvio dell'investimento. Come esempi eccellenti, vorrei sottolineare la riduzione delle formalità burocratiche e del tempo che gli imprenditori trascorrono a contattarci, grazie alla nuova Legge sulla procedura amministrativa, nonché la digitalizzazione della procedura di rilascio dei permessi di costruzione, il che ha notevolmente aumentato l'attività in questo settore.

La manodopera a basso costo non dovrebbe essere l'unico vantaggio comparativo, ed è importante che continuiamo a costruire un ambiente economico in cui avremo tutte le condizioni che attireranno gli investimenti, e in cui la pubblica amministrazione abbia certamente un ruolo chiave.

Secondo la Sua opinione, quale è il livello attuale di attuazione della Legge sulla procedura amministrativa generale (LPA) nel quadro del miglioramento della prevedibilità del contesto imprenditoriale?

— Questa legge ha l'impatto più ampio in quanto tutti i cittadini e gli imprenditori partecipano a numerose procedure ogni giorno con lo scopo di attuazione o riconoscimento di determinati diritti. Inoltre, questa legge è applicata dal maggior numero di funzionari a livello nazionale, provinciale e locale. E in questa legge, abbiamo incorporato nuove soluzioni che incidono direttamente sulla creazione di un migliore contesto imprenditoriale e essa rappresenta veramente il primo passo nel nostro percorso verso la creazione di un'amministrazione efficiente, responsabile, professionale e moderna.

Since you have announced that your Ministry would continue working on improving the administrative procedures, could you single out those procedures that are of major importance to foreign investors?

— Numerous analyses have indicated that legal safety, predictability, and a certain degree of investor protection (in addition to the profitability of the investment) generally represent key factors for attracting investors and creating new jobs. In countries with similar characteristics in terms of profitability, availability of skilled labour, similar labour costs and tax rates, but also irrespective of these characteristics, the so-called regulatory arbitrage is the key factor when investors are in the process of selecting the country to invest in. Additionally, the investor's process status, the promptness in issuing numerous permits required for doing business, and the degree of protection of investor's rights through various legal means, have a significant bearing on this decision.

How did the business sector react to the reform of the inspection services and what are the Ministry's further plans in this aspect?

— The inspection services reform is an example of a successful reform in Serbia. We have succeeded in changing the attitude of companies and entrepreneurs towards inspections through legislative initiatives, procedural changes and in general, inspectors' approach to their work. From being viewed as a repressive body that nobody knew when, how often, or what business subjects would they supervise, the inspection service became, first and foremost, an associate and ally of business subjects, which, for the most part, want to operate in line with the existing laws.

What I would like to underline when I speak about the inspection service reform is that improving the inspection's budget and staffing are crucial for its future success. We do not have enough inspectors, they are not paid enough, nor are they sufficiently equipped to be able to deal with the shadow economy.

IMPROVING THE INSPECTION'S BUDGET AND STAFFING ARE CRUCIAL FOR ITS FUTURE SUCCESS

Which results in the fight against shadow economy would you particularly like to highlight?

— The inspection reform has helped to reduce the shadow economy to a large extent and contribute to the creation of a different business culture. We have enabled inspectors to detect and sanction unregistered firms. These companies are finally no longer able to hide from inspectors, and in the period from August 2015 to the end of 2017, inspectors discovered just over 10,000 unregistered firms (10,227). This means that a number of business people, who were running their companies illegally, have been removed from the market, because they were jeopardizing our health, safety and the environment and also representing unfair competition to the legal businesses by directly violating the law.

I would also like to note that the goal here is not to penalize businesses but cooperation and dialogue. The Government of the Republic of Serbia is firmly committed to supporting the faster development of businesses which the state should be a partner and lend an ear to.

Poiché Lei ha annunciato che il Suo ministero si adopererà per migliorare le procedure amministrative, La prego di sottolineare quelle più importanti per gli investitori stranieri: — Secondo numerose analisi, la sicurezza giuridica, la prevedibilità e il grado di protezione degli investitori rappresentano generalmente (oltre alle prospettive di redditività dell'investimento) un fattore chiave per attrarre investimenti e creare nuovi posti di lavoro. In paesi con caratteristiche simili in termini di prospettive di redditività, disponibilità di manodopera qualificata e costi del lavoro simili, con simili aliquote fiscali, ma anche indipendentemente da queste caratteristiche, il cosiddetto arbitraggio normativo è un fattore chiave nella scelta di un investitore per quanto riguarda il paese in cui investirà. A tale riguardo, lo stato procedurale dell'investitore, la tempestività nel rilasciare numerose autorizzazioni necessarie per l'esercizio dell'attività, il grado di tutela dei suoi diritti attraverso vari strumenti giuridici, hanno un'influenza significativa su tale scelta.

Quali sono le reazioni del settore imprenditoriale alla riforma dei servizi di ispezione e quali sono i piani futuri del Ministero al riguardo?

— La riforma dei servizi di ispezione è un esempio di riforma di esito positivo in Serbia. Siamo riusciti a far sì che le iniziative legislative, le modifiche delle procedure e in generale l'accesso alle alle attività commerciali cambino l'atteggiamento delle imprese e degli imprenditori nei confronti delle ispezioni. Da un sistema repressivo per cui non si sapeva nemmeno quando, con quale frequenza e che cosa avrebbe controllato presso le imprese, il servizio di ispezione è diventato, prima di tutto, un partner e un alleato delle imprese, che in larga maggioranza hanno il desiderio e la volontà di operare nel rispetto delle leggi.

Quando parlo della riforma dei servizi di ispezione, insisto sul fatto che per il suo futuro successo, sarà fondamentale che venga rafforzata sia a livello materiale che di personale. Non abbiamo abbastanza ispettori, loro non sono retribuiti a sufficienza, né sono sufficientemente attrezzati per affrontare l'economia sommersa.

RAFFORZARE I FONDI PER I SERVIZI DI ISPEZIONE E PER IL PERSONALE È CRUCIALE PER IL FUTURO SUCCESSO

Quali risultati della lotta contro l'economia sommersa vorrebbe particolarmente sottolineare?

— La riforma delle ispezioni ha contribuito in gran parte a ridurre l'economia sommersa e a creare una diversa cultura imprenditoriale. Abbiamo messo in grado le ispezioni di identificare e sanzionare le imprese non registrate. Tale imprese non sono più in grado di sfuggire agli ispettori e, da agosto 2015 a fine 2017, sono state scoperte poco più di 10.000 imprese non registrate (10.227). Ciò significa che sono stati eliminati dal mercato tanti imprenditori illegali che violavano direttamente la legge, mettendo a rischio la nostra salute, la nostra sicurezza e l'ambiente e rappresentando una concorrenza sleale per l'economia regolare.

Vorrei sottolineare che l'obiettivo non è la punizione delle imprese, ma la cooperazione e il dialogo. Il governo della Repubblica di Serbia è fermamente impegnato a sostenere il rapido sviluppo dell'economia, di cui lo Stato dovrebbe essere partner, e ad ascoltarlo.

or Belgrade, the start of the negotiations with the EU was a historic step towards European integration. Carlo Lo Cascio, the Italian ambassador to Serbia, gives us a close intake on his observations of Serbian political developments and on the relations with Italy, a founding Member State of the EU.

How does Serbia look to you today compared to the time of your previous diplomatic engagement in Belgrade?

— I left Serbia in 2008, but I have continued to follow the main political and economic issues of the Balkan region also from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome, as Director for the Balkans and later as Principal Director for European countries. Over the last few years, therefore, I have been able to observe closely the developments on the path towards the European Union, since the formal start of Serbia's accession negotiations in 2014, and to see the significant progress made by Serbia. There is, of course, still much to be done - and our Serbian friends know this - but the direction is the right one. There is another very important thing: Serbia has become a factor of stability for the Western Balkans. Economic integration with the other candidate countries, the settlement of regional disputes, the management of migratory flows, the fight against radicalisation and terrorism are all challenges that cannot be met without the fundamental contribution of Serbia. I am sure that there is full awareness today on the part of the Serbian authorities of the key role that Belgrade can play in the region, including in the light of the constructive approach recently demonstrated on several occasions.

WE WERE AMONG THE FIRST, IF NOT THE FIRST, TO TALK ABOUT THE SERBIA'S EUROPEAN PERSPECTIVE, WHEN NOBODY DARED DO SO

At the beginning of your term in the office, you said that, in the coming months, you expected the accession negotiations between Serbia and the European Union to bring our two countries even closer together. What issues relating to the European integration of Serbia will be in focus of Italian support?

— Italy has decided to make a major investment in Serbia, both in political and economic terms, at a time when others were reluctant to do so. We were among the first, if not the first, to talk about Serbia's European perspective, when nobody dared to do so. We are pleased to see today that we were right, because it is clear to everyone that the future of Serbia is within the European Union.

As a founding member and traditionally pro-European country we see Serbia's accession to the EU as a matter of priority. We firmly believe that Serbia's prosperity contributes to our prosperity and that stability in the Balkans guarantees our stability. These are the reasons why Italy has never failed to give its full support to the negotiations under way in Brussels, always expressing its support for the opening of new chapters. Similarly, we have provided technical support, thanks to the work of Italian experts, engaged in European projects in Serbia in many sectors, from the fight against corruption to agriculture, from health to free competition. Italy stands by Serbia also from an economic point of view, thanks to the investments of Italian companies in the country. As a matter of fact, Italy, besides being the first foreign investor in Serbia, is also the second commercial partner and the first importing country of Serbian products.

er Belgrado, l'inizio dei negoziati con l'UE ha costituito un passo storico verso l'integrazione europea. Carlo Lo Cascio, Ambasciatore d’Italia in Serbia, offre una attenta analisi degli sviluppi politici in Serbia e delle relazioni con l'Italia, uno dei Paesi fondatori dell'UE.

Come vede oggi la Serbia rispetto all'epoca del Suo precedente impegno diplomatico a Belgrado?

— Ho lasciato la Serbia nel 2008, ma ho continuato a seguire i principali dossier politici ed economici della regione balcanica anche dal Ministero degli Esteri a Roma, come Direttore Balcani e poi come Direttore Centrale per i Paesi europei. Negli ultimi anni ho quindi potuto osservare con attenzione gli sviluppi nel percorso di avvicinamento all’Unione Europea, a partire dall’apertura ufficiale dei negoziati per l’adesione nel 2014, e constatare i significativi progressi compiuti dalla Serbia. Certo, c’è ancora molto da fare – e gli amici serbi lo sanno – ma la direzione imboccata è quella giusta. C’è un altro elemento molto importante: la Serbia è diventata un fattore di stabilità per i Balcani occidentali. L’integrazione economica con gli altri Paesi candidati all’adesione, la risoluzione delle controversie regionali, la gestione dei fenomeni migratori, la lotta alla radicalizzazione e al terrorismo sono tutte sfide che non possono essere affrontate senza il fondamentale contributo della Serbia. Sono certo che oggi vi sia piena consapevolezza da parte delle Autorità serbe sul ruolo chiave che Belgrado può svolgere nella regione, anche alla luce dell’approccio costruttivo recentemente dimostrato in più occasioni.

All'inizio del Suo mandato Lei ha affermato che nei prossimi mesi si aspettava che i negoziati di adesione tra la Serbia e l'Unione europea avvicinassero ancora di più i nostri due paesi. Quali sono le problematiche relative all'integrazione europea della Serbia che saranno al centro del sostegno italiano?

— L’Italia ha deciso di fare un grande investimento in Serbia, sia in termini politici sia economici, in un momento storico in cui altri esitavano a fare altrettanto. Siamo stati tra i primi, se non i primi, a parlare di prospettiva europea per la Serbia, quando nessuno osava farlo. Ci fa piacere constatare oggi che avevamo ragione: è infatti chiaro a tutti che il futuro della Serbia è nell’Unione Europea. Da Membro Fondatore e Paese tradizionalmente europeista guardiamo all’ingresso della Serbia nell’UE come una priorità. Siamo infatti convinti che la prosperità della Serbia contribuisca alla nostra prosperità e che la stabilità nei Balcani garantisca la nostra stabilità. Per questi motivi l’Italia non ha mai fatto mancare il proprio convinto sostegno ai negoziati in corso a Bruxelles, esprimendosi sempre a favore dell’apertura di nuovi capitoli.

In maniera analoga abbiamo garantito un supporto tecnico, grazie al lavoro di esperti italiani, impegnati in Serbia in progetti europei su molteplici settori, dalla lotta alla corruzione all’agricoltura, dalla salute alla libera concorrenza. L’Italia rimane al fianco della Serbia anche dal punto di vista economico, grazie agli investimenti delle imprese italiane nel Paese. L’Italia, infatti, oltre ad essere il primo investitore straniero in Serbia è anche il secondo partner commerciale e il primo Paese importatore di prodotti serbi.

— The accession process is bringing Serbia closer to Italy, which is clear if we bear in mind that the opening of each new negotiation chapter implies the harmonisation of Serbian legislation with European legislation. Thanks to the numerous and important reforms that Serbia has partly launched and that it will continue to implement, it will be easier for Serbian companies to trade with Italian companies, Serbian students will be able to go more freely to Italy, the transport and telecommunications network of the Balkans will be expanded and connected to that of the EU countries. Negotiations with Brussels should not be seen as a mere bureaucratic process, but as a unique opportunity for reforms, the results of which will primarily benefit Serbian citizens. Italy will therefore continue to support Serbia in all those areas in which it is good to continue the excellent work already undertaken: in the area of the rule of law, in the media and in the privatisation.

In che modo la più rapida adesione della Serbia all'UE può approfondire le relazioni bilaterali esistenti tra i nostri due paesi?

— Tra le conseguenze dirette del processo di adesione vi è anche l’avvicinamento della Serbia all’Italia, questo è evidente se si considera che l’apertura di ogni nuovo capitolo negoziale implica un’armonizzazione della legislazione serba con quella europea. Grazie alle numerose e importanti riforme che la Serbia ha in parte avviato e che continuerà ad implementare, sarà più semplice per le imprese serbe commerciare con le imprese italiane, gli studenti serbi potranno recarsi più liberamente in Italia, la rete dei trasporti e delle telecomunicazioni dei Balcani sarà ingrandita e collegata a quella dei Paesi dell’UE. Il negoziato con Bruxelles non va affatto visto come un mero processo burocratico, ma va vissuto come un’occasione unica di riforma, i cui risultati andranno in primo luogo a beneficio dei cittadini serbi. L’Italia continuerà quindi a sostenere la Serbia in tutti quei settori in cui è bene proseguire l’ottimo lavoro già intrapreso: nello Stato di diritto, nei media e nelle privatizzazioni.

Which economic segments have the biggest potential for further increase in the external trade between our countries?

— First of all, I would like to point out that the trade exchange between Serbia and Italy is constantly growing.

We have to be very optimistic, therefore, about strengthening our economic partnership. Italy had an exchange of 3.9 billion euros with Serbia in 2017. The growth prospects of our economies, in particular the Serbian economy, which may see GDP growth rates exceeding three percentage points, show that the trend will continue to be positive. The objective we have set for this year is to reach, and if possible exceed, 4 billion euros. This will be possible thanks to the increased trade in traditional sectors such as automotive, machinery and textiles, however, to target higher growth margins it is necessary to look at sectors which still have unexpressed potential for development in Serbia. I refer in particular to new technologies and digitalisation, which have been identified as a priority by the Serbian Government, but also to agribusiness and organic products or the green economy. — Vorrei innanzitutto evidenziare che l’interscambio commerciale tra Serbia e Italia è in costante crescita. Bisogna perciò guardare con molto ottimismo al rafforzamento del nostro partenariato economico. Nel 2017 l’Italia ha avuto con la Serbia un interscambio di 3,9 miliardi di euro. Le prospettive di crescita delle nostre economie, in particolare di quella serba i cui tassi di aumento del PIL potrebbero superare i tre punti percentuali, indicano che il trend continuerà ad essere positivo. L’obiettivo che ci siamo posti per quest’anno è di toccare, e se possibile superare, i 4 miliardi di euro.

Questo sarà possibile grazie all’aumento degli scambi in settori tradizionali come l’automotive, i macchinari e il tessile, tuttavia per puntare a maggiori margini di crescita è necessario guardare a settori il cui sviluppo in Serbia presenta ancora delle potenzialità inespresse. Penso in particolare alle nuove tecnologie e alla digitalizzazione, che sono state individuate come priorità dal Governo serbo, ma anche all’agribusiness e ai prodotti bio oppure all’economia verde. Trade Agency, the Italian-Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Confindustria Serbia - which together represent ’’Sistema Italia’’ - organizes a series of promotional events during the year. In May, for example, Italy participated with 20 companies at the International Agriculture Fair of Novi Sad, while a very successful entrepreneurial mission in the infrastructure sector took place in Belgrade.

The fifth edition of the meeting of the 'Italian-Serbian Collaboration Platform in Advanced Manufacturing Systems and Technologies', which brings together prestigious Italian and Serbian bodies from the world of research and industry active in the field of automation and mechatronics, will take place in June.

— I said earlier that Serbia's future is within Europe, but the same can be said of its past. THE OBJECTIVE WE HAVE SET FOR THIS YEAR IS TO REACH, AND IF POSSIBLE EXCEED, 4 BILLION EUROS OF EXCHANGE artistic and historical heritage is a fundamental aspect of the management and appreciation of cultural heritage, with respect to which Italy has a profound experience, which it has always shared with friendly countries. Last year, for example, a meeting was organised by the Italian Cultural Institute, with the support of the Serbian Embassy and the Serbian Ministry of Culture, in Belgrade entitled 'A bridge for cultural heritage', in which managers and experts from some of the most important Italian museums took part. The aim of the conference was to demonstrate that the management of cultural heritage can become a valuable resource for tourism and local development. In March this year, on the other hand, an exhibition was held in Aquileia (in the province of Udine) entitled 'Treasures and Emperors - Splendour of Roman Serbia' with sixty-two artefacts coming from the National Museum of Belgrade, the National Museum of Zaječar and Niš and the Museums of Požarevac, Novi Sad, Sremska Mitrovica and Negotin. Italy is a cultural 'superpower', just because it has been able to fully take advantage of its incredible artistic treasures as an instrument of soft power. I am sure that sharing our good practices can make a decisive contribution to the growth of the cultural sector in Serbia.

L’OBIETTIVO CHE CI SIAMO POSTI PER QUEST’ANNO È DI TOCCARE, E SE POSSIBILE SUPERARE, I 4 MILIARDI DI EURO DI INTERSCAMBIO COMMERCIALE artistico e storico è un aspetto fondamentale della gestione e della valorizzazione dei beni culturali, rispetto al quale l’Italia possiede una profonda esperienza, che ha sempre condiviso con i Paesi amici.

L’anno scorso, ad esempio, è stato organizzato dall’Istituto Italiano di Cultura, con il sostegno dell’Ambasciata e del Ministero della Cultura serbo, un incontro a Belgrado intitolato ’’Un ponte per il patrimonio culturale’’, a cui hanno preso parte manager ed esperti di alcuni tra i più importanti musei italiani. La conferenza aveva come obiettivo di dimostrare che la gestione del patrimonio culturale può trasformarsi in una preziosa risorsa di sviluppo turistico e territoriale. A marzo di quest’anno, invece, si è tenuta ad Aquileia (in provincia di Udine) la mostra "Tesori e imperatori. Lo splendore della Serbia romana", con 61 reperti provenienti dal Museo nazionale di Belgrado, dal Museo nazionale di Zaječar e di Niš e dai Musei di Požarevac, Novi Sad, Sremska Mitrovica e Negotin. L’Italia è una ’’superpontenza’’ della cultura, proprio perché ha saputo sfruttare appieno le sue incredibili ricchezze artistiche come strumento di soft power. ne of the leading business organizations, the Italian-Serbian Chamber of Commerce, is well-known for it’s triumphant activity and successful negotiations. Giorgio Ambrogio Marchegiani, president of the Chamber, is proud of the organizations members for their work on the victorious journey.

Last year, the Chamber celebrated its 15th anniversary. What would you single out as the Chamber's biggest successes in this period?

— During these 15 years the Chamber’s greatest success has been its growth together with Serbia and its development into a recognized institution rooted in the Serbian territory as well as successfully reflecting the economic importance of Italian and Serbian relations.

This has been a step-by-step process: Italian firms have been the first to believe in the Serbian market, they came here, they created the Chamber and they made it grow. Today the Chamber, supported by the “Sistema Italia” reached a solid position and constitutes a considerable portion of Italian investments in Serbia in all kinds of firms with about 200 members. It is also the platform to foster the agency of Serbian firms in Italy.

How has the growth of the external trade between our two countries and the Italian investments affected the Chamber's operations and goals?

— As stated earlier, the Chamber has grown concurrently to the trade between these two countries.

Italy is a fundamental commercial partner for Serbia on many fronts: in 2017 the Italian and Serbian exchange was almost 4 billion euros.

The number of the 650 companies the capital of which is mostly Italian that employ more than 27 000 people on the Serbian territory is increasing too. Italy still remains, even after 20 years, in the first three positions in terms of commercialization of Serbian products and represents one of the largest investors in this country.

Noteworthy its leading participation in the bank, insurance and financial services sector as well as in the transportation and tourism ones. From 2013 a constant economic surplus is present in favor of Serbia and we believe there is a significant potential for development of Serbian companies towards Italy, through exportations mainly.

Today, the Chamber has over 200 members. How complicated is it to consider the priorities and interests of so many members?

In che modo la crescita degli scambi tra i nostri due Paesi e gli investimenti italiani hanno influenzato le operazioni e gli obiettivi della Camera?

— Come si è detto: la Camera è cresciuta in parallelo allo scambio tra i due Paesi. L’Italia è un partner commerciale fondamentale per la Serbia su molti fronti: nel 2017, l’interscambio fra i due Paesi è stato di quasi 4 M. di euro. Cresce anche il numero delle 650 società a capitale prevalente italiano che impiegano nel territorio serbo oltre 27 000 persone. L’Italia continua, anche dopo 20 anni, a essere nei primi tre posti in termini di commercializzazione dei prodotti serbi e a rappresentare uno dei maggiori investitori in questo paese. La presenza nel settore dei servizi bancari, assicurativi e finanziari, così come in quelli dei trasporti e del turismo è di primo piano. Dal 2013 vi è un surplus commerciale costante a favore della Serbia e riteniamo che vi sia un importante potenzale di sviluppo delle aziende serbe verso l’Italia, principalmente attraverso esportazioni.

Oggi la Camera conta oltre 200 membri. Quanto è complicato considerare le priorità e gli interessi di così tanti membri?

— Our associated firms constitute a varied universe: from small catering activities to large enterprises and multinational corporations of “Italia SpA”. The Chamber is organized to support the demands of the members, sustain them and provide the information they need.

Certainly the smallest firms or the ones just arrived are those who need more assistance. In some cases the Chamber’s services are directed at groups of members, in other cases are “tailor-made” services. In all our activities direct contact with people becomes a reason for the exchange of experiences and networking.

The Italian Chamber is a part of the so-called Italia System, which includes the Italian Embassy, the Italian Trade Agency, the Chamber and the Italian Cultural Centre. What benefits do you have from this kind of synergetic approach?

— What we call “Sistema Italia” gathers together the Italian institutions active on the Serbian territory – Embassy, Italian Trade Agency, Chamber of Commerce, Italian Cultural Institute, other business associations (ex. Confindustria). Within this system everyone implements its own strategy and do its own institutional jobs in the most synergic way with the other members. Some strategic initiatives are backed by the Ministry of Economic Development, while others are more locally born and develop from Serbian realities, often linked with the Chamber.

Added to this there is the activity in the cultural field of the Italian Cultural Institute. The Chamber is part of this system and it profits from it; it contributes to the diffusion of the several initiatives and is an “economic detector” receiving the needs of the area and of the operators.

— Le aziende socie rappresentano un universo molto variegato: si va dalle piccole attività di ristorazione alle grandi imprese e alle multinazionali dell’ “Italia SpA”. La Camera è strutturata per assecondare le richieste dei diversi membri, supportarli e fornire le informazioni di cui hanno bisogno. Come è naturale, le aziende più piccole o appena arrivate in Serbia sono quelle che richiedono più assistenza. In alcuni casi i servizi della Camera sono diretti a gruppi di soci, in altri casi sono servizi “su misura”. In tutte le nostre attività il contatto diretto tra persone diventa motivo di scambio di esperienze e di networking.

In qualità di CEO di DDOR e rappresentante di Unipol in Serbia, come valuta l'esperienza di gestione e investimento in Serbia?

— Negli ultimi 5 anni la Serbia ha compiuto un cammino importante dimostrando di essere un Paese determinato ad entrare nell’UE. Si presenta agli investitori con indicatori macroeconomici buoni – stabilità del tasso di cambio e dell’inflazione, riduzione della disoccupazione, bilancio pubblico in pareggio, e debito/PIL in calo. Come CEO di DDOR, sono contento di operare in questo contesto anche se ci sono alcuni punti su cui auspico che vi siano miglioramenti visibili: tra essi, il completamento delle privatizzazioni, anche nel settore bancario e assicurativo, la lotta alla corruzione e alla “grey economy”, il funzionamento del settore giudiziario, la legislazione sul lavoro.

As the CEO of DDOR, how would you assess the experience of operating and investing in Serbia?

— In the last 5 years Serbia has come a long way proving to be very determined to enter the EU. It presents itself to investors with good macroeconomics indicators – exchange-rate and inflation stability, reduced unemployment, balanced national budget, and debt/GDP on a declining path. As CEO of DDOR, I’m glad to work in this area even if I hope for a visible improvement on a number of points: the conclusion of privatizations, also in the banking and insurance sectors, fighting corruption and “grey economy”, the functioning of the judicial system, employment law.

La Camera italiana fa parte del cosiddetto Sistema Italia, che comprende l'Ambasciata italiana, l'Istituto italiano per il commercio estero, la Camera e l'Istituto Italiano di Cultura . Quali benefici vi sono per la Camera da questo tipo di approccio sinergico?

— Quello che chiamiamo “Sistema Italia” raggruppa le istituzioni italiane presenti sul territorio serbo – Ambasciata, Italian Trade Agency, Camera di Commercio , Istituto Italiano di Cultura, altre associazioni di imprese (es. Confindustria). All’interno di questo sistema ognuno attua le proprie strategie e svolge i proprio compiti istituzionali in modo il più possibile sinergico con gli altri membri. Vi sono iniziative strategiche supportate dal Ministero dello Sviluppo Economico, vi sono iniziative più locali che nascono dalla realtà serba, spesso legate alla Camera. A questo si aggiunge l’attività in ambito culturale dell’Istituto Italiano di Cultura. La Camera è parte di questo sistema e ne beneficia; essa contribuisce a diffondere le diverse iniziative ed è un “sensore economico” che recepisce i bisogni del territorio e degli operatori sul campo.

In which economic branches have the Italian investors in Serbia been investing the most?

— There are two characteristics of Italian investments in Serbia: they were among the very first foreign investments in the country immediately after the opening of the market in the 2000s and they are diversified into several sectors. Undoubtedly, it can be said that the economic links between Italy and Serbia have a historical significance; this is due - in addition to strong institutional support – to the far-sightedness of the Italian entrepreneurs. At a time when other countries were showing a certain reluctance to invest, Italy strongly believed in the potential of this country, carrying out major operations, the profits of which in terms of economic return were not long in coming.

This has allowed us to expand our presence in many areas, the large investments in key sectors such as the automotive, financial and insurance branches have, in fact, proved to be real pioneers, as they have attracted - and continue to - further investments. The arrival of numerous SMEs, which have always been the real driving force of the Italian production system, has consolidated our position as leaders among foreign investors. Italy is proud to have excellence in Serbian textile, footwear, metalworking, agri-food and construction sectors.

In quali settori economici gli investitori italiani in Serbia hanno investito di più?

— Gli investimenti italiani in Serbia hanno due caratteristiche: sono stati tra i primissimi investimenti stranieri nel Paese subito dopo l’apertura del mercato negli anni 2000 e sono diversificati in più settori. Si può senz’altro dire che i legami economici tra Italia e Serbia hanno una portata storica, questo è dovuto – oltre che a una forte azione istituzionale di sostegno – alla lungimiranza degli imprenditori italiani. In momenti in cui altri Paesi mostravano ancora una certa reticenza ad investire, l’Italia ha fortemente creduto nel potenziale di questo Paese, effettuando importanti operazioni, i cui frutti in termini di ritorno economico non si sono fatti attendere. Questo ci ha permesso di espandere la nostra presenza in molti ambiti, i grandi investimenti in settori chiave come quello automobilistico, finanziario e assicurativo si sono, infatti, rivelati dei veri e propri apripista, in quanto hanno attratto – e continuano a farlo – ulteriori investimenti. L’arrivo di numerose PMI, che rappresentano da sempre il vero motore della sistema produttivo italiano, ha poi consolidato la nostra posizione di leader tra gli investitori stranieri. L’Italia può oggi fregiarsi di avere in Serbia delle eccellenze nel settore tessile, calzaturiero, metalmeccanico, agroalimentare e nelle costruzioni.

Serbia's second largest commercial partner with over 3.9 billion euro of total trade, a figure that grew by approximately 200 million euro compared to the previous year. Italy is also the largest importer of Serbian goods, although it has increased its exports by more than 10% in the last year. Our goal for 2018 is to exceed 4 billion euro. I am sure that this goal will be reached for two reasons: on one hand the forecasts on the growth rates of the Serbian economy for this year are positive, on the other hand the trade of Serbia with all the countries of the European Union is constantly increasing, and now dominates in a structural way compared to that with third world countries.

Sono sicuro che l’obiettivo sarà raggiunto per due ragioni: da una parte le previsioni sui tassi di crescita dell’economia serba per quest’anno sono positive, dall’altra l’interscambio della Serbia con tutti i Paesi dell’Unione Europea è in costante ascesa e ormai prevale in maniera strutturale rispetto a quello con i Paesi terzi.

What would further removal of the barriers in the CEFTA countries mean to Italian investors?

— The liberalization of trade, regional integration and the removal of tariff and non-tariff barriers among the CEFTA countries, and in general among the countries of South-East Europe, represent - in my opinion - an issue of fundamental importance. I mentioned earlier the presence of Italian companies in Serbia, which demonstrates the great attractiveness of the country as a destination for foreign direct investment. However, it should be added that this condition applies mainly to the production segment: qualified labour, competitive salaries, lower electricity prices than in the rest of Europe, the system of incentives offered by the Serbian authorities are all factors which influence the choice of entrepreneurs. By contrast, low domestic demand and barriers to trade with neighbouring countries are still holding back growth. Establishing a regional market must be seen as a coherent step in the process of accession to the European Union and not as an alternative choice to it.

The final goal is undoubtedly integration into the single market, but in the current transitional period, removing obstacles to trade with CEFTA countries is a decisive choice to facilitate the arrival of new investments from Italy and its neighbouring countries.

Che cosa comporterebbe per gli investitori italiani l'ulteriore rimozione delle barriere nei paesi CEFTA? — La liberalizzazione degli scambi, l’integrazione regionale e la rimozione di barriere tariffarie e non tra i Paesi CEFTA, e in generale tra i Paesi del Sud-Est Europa, rappresentano – a mio modo di vedere – una questione di fondamentale importanza. In precedenza ho fatto riferimento alla presenza in Serbia delle imprese italiane, che dimostrano la grande attrattività del Paese come destinazione per gli investimenti diretti esteri. Bisogna però aggiungere che tale condizione è valida principalmente per il segmento produttivo: la manodopera qualificata, gli stipendi competitivi, i prezzi per l’energia elettrica più bassi rispetto al resto dell’Europa, il sistema di incentivi offerto dalle autorità serbe, sono tutti elementi che influiscono sulla scelta degli imprenditori. La bassa domanda interna e gli ostacoli al commercio con i Paesi confinanti, invece, pongono ancora oggi un freno alla crescita. La creazione di un mercato regionale deve essere visto come un passo coerente con il processo di adesione all’Unione Europea e non come una scelta alternativa ad esso. L’obiettivo finale rimane senz’altro l’integrazione nel mercato unico, ma nel momento di transizione attuale, eliminare gli ostacoli negli scambi con i Paesi CEFTA è una scelta decisiva per facilitare l’arrivo di nuovi investimenti dall’Italia e dai Paesi vicini.

Which economic segments have the biggest potential for further increase in the external trade between our countries?

— The indispensable precondition for the increase of trade is the growth of the economy. As I already mentioned, in 2018 the Serbian GDP is expected to show encouraging rates (around +3%), also the Italian economy, although at a slightly slower pace, will show a positive variation.

This aspect will guarantee an increase in trade in all sectors. If I then I have to make specific predictions, it is reasonable to think that trade in vehicles, clothing, footwear and machinery will continue to grow. However, I think it is more interesting to focus on the sectors that show the most potential in the medium term. I particularly have in mind agrifoods and the subcategory of organic products, technological innovation and materials connected with the renewable energy and energy efficiency industry. These are sectors to which the current Serbian government is paying particular attention. Similarly, the action of the ''Sistema Italia'', composed of the Embassy, the Foreign Trade Agency - ICE, Confindustria Serbia and the Italian-Serbian Chamber of Commerce, promotes these sectors in an integrated manner.

Quali sono i segmenti economici con il maggior potenziale di ulteriore espansione del commercio estero tra i nostri paesi?

— La precondizione indispensabile per l’aumento degli scambi commerciali e’ la crescita dell’economia. Come ho gia’ accennato, nel 2018 si prevedono tassi incoraggianti per il PIL serbo (intorno al +3%), anche l’economia italiana, sebbene a un ritmo leggermente inferiore, segnera’ una variazione positiva. Questo aspetto garantira’ un incremento dell’interscambio in tutti i settori. Se poi dovessi fare delle previsioni specifiche, e’ ragionevole pensare che il commercio di veicoli, abbigliamento, calzature e macchinari continuera’ a crescere. Credo pero’ sia piu’ interessante concentrarsi sui settori che mostrano un maggiore potenziale nel medio periodo. Penso in particolare all’agroalimentare e alla sottocategoria dei prodotti biologici, all’innovazione tecnologica e ai materiali collegati con l’industria delle energie rinnovabili e dell’efficienza energetica. Si tratta di ambiti per cui l’attuale Governo serbo sta mostrando particolare attenzione. In maniera analoga l’azione del ‘’Sistema Italia’’, formato dall’Ambasciata, dall’Agenzia per il Commercio estero – ICE, da Confindustria Serbia e dalla Camera di Commercio italo-serba, promuove tali settori in maniera integrata.

— All are factors that are fixed, but there is one more: the process of political stabilization of the Country represents one of the main requirements for the approach to the EU, that we come quickly to a full free trade with the member States of the EU. Serbia is a strong base especially for our SMEs, with a certain gradualness of the intervention, in order to address the other squares with which it is linked by preferential trade agreements, especially those participating in the customs Union to Eurasian area. Therefore, there is a particular attention to a growing domestic market, but also to a potential ‘bridge’ to other routes, the Russian Federation and Turkey especially.

— Let us begin with some highlights: in 2017 Italy is the second trade partner and the first buyer of Serbia. — Sono tutti fattori corretti, ma ce n’è uno in più: il processo di stabilizzazione politica del Paese rappresenta uno dei requisiti principali per l’avvicinamento all’UE, e auspichiamo di raggiungere in tempi rapidi il completo libero scambio con gli Stati membri della UE .

La Serbia rappresenta una forte base soprattutto per le nostre piccole e medie imprese, con una certa gradualità di interventi legati da accordi commerciali preferenziali, in primis quelle partecipanti all’Unione doganale euroasiatica. Quindi, attenzione ad un mercato interno in crescita, ma anche a un potenziale effetto ‘ponte’ verso altre direttrici, Federazione Russa e Turchia soprattutto.

Il sostegno italiano al processo di integrazione dell'UE nei Balcani occidentali è evidente: il lancio della strategia macroregionale dell'UE per la regione adriatica e ionica nel 2016 ed il recente vertice del luglio 2017 tenutosi a Trieste sull’integrazione di questi Paesi segnalano un lavoro svolto in attacco da parte italiana, che pone il nostro Paese in pole position nei rapporti con le istituzioni e le aziende serbe.

Ci racconti in breve lo sviluppo di Confindustria Udine negli anni e il ruolo che oggi ricopre — Stiamo dialogando di più e meglio con il mondo della scuola, della formazione superiore, dei centri di ricerca e con le istituzioni tutte: bisogna creare cultura del fare impresa per avere un futuro, rafforzare le aziende esistenti e vederne nascere di nuove.

Rappresentiamo sul nostro territorio, ma la fotografia è la medesima anche a livello nazionale, aziende che per più del 90% hanno meno di 10 dipendenti. Confindustria quindi è l’interlocutore che dà voce alle istanze degli imprenditori.

A proposito di regole, l’avvicinamento della Serbia all’Ue sta già producendo benefici e facilitazioni per le imprese estere, proprio per l’armonizzazione delle regole agli standard comunitari.

Data la tradizionale e buona collaborazione con la CCIS, quali sono i settori chiave su cui puntare per una prossima cooperazione?

— Partiamo da qualche dato: nel 2017 l’Italia è stato il secondo partner commerciale della Serbia.

Sicuramente sono esempi da replicare, però ricercando collaborazioni con le piccole e medie aziende locali, con le quali le nostre imprese - penso ai settori ad alto valore aggiunto nei macchinari speciali, macchine per utensili, materiali da costruzione legati all’efficienza energetica, alimentare - possano dialogare direttamente per creare opportunità di business vicendevoli in un’ottica win-win.

For years, we have been hearing how the underdevelopment of the insurance market is the main potential for future development of insurance in Serbia. Where lies the growth potential?

— What Serbian market lacks in is the slow growth of the insurance market. Higher living standard provides a real potential for future market growth and these two are directly correlated. I keep making a comparison with Slovenia and Croatia that have a smaller population, but their insurance premiums are twice and thrice higher respectively than in Serbia. We are not talking about very wealthy and strong countries that have a long tradition in insurance, but rather the countries that surround us, which, due to their higher standard of living, have more developed insurance.

One of the prejudices is that insurance is expensive and unnecessary, which is absolutely not true.

I am optimistic when it comes to that, as I am optimistic about Serbia's development, the growth of the living standard, and the growth of the insurance market. I'm confident that this scenario will happen in the next few years, thus we are preparing ourselves with innovative products for future growth.

Da anni ormai sentiamo che il sottosviluppo del mercato è il più importante potenziale per il futuro sviluppo delle assicurazioni in Serbia. Dove si può trovare il potenziale di crescita?

— La mancanza del mercato in Serbia è la lenta crescita del mercato assicurativo. La crescita dello standard di vita è un potenziale reale per la futura crescita del mercato e questi due sono in correlazione diretta.

Faccio sempre il confronto con la Slovenia e la Croazia che hanno un numero minore di residenti e il premio assicurativo tre o due volte superiore. Non stiamo parlando di paesi ricchi e forti che hanno una tradizione assicurativa, questi sono i paesi che ci circondano, ma a causa dello standard di vita più elevato hanno l'assicurazione più sviluppata.

Uno dei pregiudizi è che l'assicurazione sia costosa e inutile, il che non è vero.

Sono ottimista su questo punto, per quanto riguarda lo sviluppo della Serbia, la crescita dello standard di vita e la crescita del mercato assicurativo. Sono certo che questo scenario ci sta aspettando negli anni a venire e ci stiamo preparando con prodotti innovativi per la futura crescita.

Thanks to operating under one of the three largest insurance companies in Europe, we have enough experience to offer the products that are popular in Europe, we follow the trends and adapt these innovative products to our market.

We have been focusing on the segment of SME in the last few years as this is a niche that is in developing in Serbia. We have created quite successful products for this segment like the one that covers business risks while providing added security which is one of the most innovative products in the market that has proved to be very popular.

Agricultural insurance is something that is very poorly developed in Serbia with nine out of ten agricultural land plots, that are the subject of an investment, not insured. If agriculture is a new development opportunity for Serbia, it is very important to recognize that insurance costs less than the possible damage to the land.

We are constantly working on educating and clarifying the significance of insurance in agriculture, both group-wise as insurance industry and individually as companies. We highlight the benefits of insurance, and we see some progress made, but we still need to send a stronger message together.

The state needs to do the same and underline that it is necessary to insure agricultural land as there are clear benefits to it.

Liberalization is inevitably good for the end client, but looking at the countries which have liberalized their insurance markets, their prices fell between 30-40% in order for companies to occupy a better market position, and there is a danger that 30% of the market will disappear. In order to liberalize the market, it is necessary to first align the price of the premium, which, according to some estimates, should be two times higher than it is now.

I think that a few more years need to pass in order for Serbia to be read for the liberalization ahead of the EU accession, when all aspects of business are more aligned with the European values, including the ones in the insurance segment.

For years, as an industry, we have been trying to explain that this is necessary in order to improve the insurance market.

Generali Osiguranje has an excellent savings – risk policy ratio, and we are increasingly moving towards the risk policies, but we are also continuing to provide savings policies too as long as there is a demand on the market.

As for other products, we were the first to launch the product called Unit Link last year, which in Europe had a 30-40% share in the total sales in the first year. This means that for the first time ever, the client has the opportunity to manage their investments under their life insurance policy. A client who buys life insurance also decides on the investment, on the basis of analyses and statistics, and directly bears some kind of risk. By doing so, he gets a clear picture where about the size of investment returns.

In the meantime, the state has recognized the opportunity to stimulate faster development in this segment, and has facilitated a tax relief which further opens the doors to companies to invest and provide health insurance for their employees, as well as motivate employees in the long run, who are gaining an additional benefit.

The health insurance segment continues to grow in the individual segment too. We have hundreds of thousands of clients in companies, and only a couple of thousand of clients who pay health insurance for themselves. There is definitely the potential for growth in this segment.

— Generali Osiguranje has two pension funds and we have been in this segment for ten years now. Our current market share is around 30%. There is a good and clear calculation when it comes to investing in a pension fund, but it is necessary to work on raising the awareness of citizens in regard to this segment. Voluntary pension covers a small percentage of the population, and people have still not developed a habit of investing in the future.

The positive aspect and the advantage of these policies is that there is a possibility pausing with payments, in case the client is unable to pay over a certain period time.

This segment has been growing very slowly, it requires a lot of education and the change of consciousness, which does not necessarily mean that at some point this it will not develop at the speed we want. As an industry, we started with the education and we are continuing with it since we want to raise the awareness of the importance of insurance and to highlight the necessity and the need for this type of insurance. Each insurance company approaches the client in the best way, be it through a good experience or an offer. Our aim is to create a sort of tradition through holding Insurance Days and develop a habit to talk about insurance.

The Human Safety Net is Generali Insurance’s global project launched in October 2017. What kind of actions and projects is Generali Serbia going to do under the auspices of this global project?

— We are the eleventh country in the whole group that has symbolically entered the world of Human Security Net. We organized workshops for employees last month, in all of our departments. We have decided to help families in Serbia and create equal conditions for children, regardless of which family they come from, in order to provide them with education and training, so that they can develop their skills and get the proper education.

In this way, we want to give back to the community. We are proud that we are part of this initiative launched at the Group level and in all the countries of the world in which Generali operates, and that this is a process that will last for quite a long time.

Qual è l’ultima sfida che state affrontando?

— Al momento stiamo realizzando un programma vincitore di un Bando per la Promozione dei vini sui mercati dei Paesi terzi nell'ambito del regolamento UE n. 1308/2013, finanziato dall’Unione Europea per la promozione della 'Falanghina del Sannio DOP' in Serbia. Obiettivo del progetto, e nostra sfida, è inserire nel mercato locale un vino non conosciuto, la Falanghina, rendendolo facilmente riconoscibile con il conseguente aumento delle vendite per i nostri clienti.

Altre iniziative in programma?

— Quella della Tutela dell’ambiente e risparmio energetico, promuovendo la realizzazione di impianti per la produzione di energia da fonti rinnovabili. In cantiere c’è l’insediamento di aziende per il riciclo dei rifiuti e la realizzazione di impianti per la produzione di green energy.

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia has developed new platforms and support services for foreign and domestic investors and companies

I

n the past three years, Serbia has attracted nearly 7 billion worth of foreign direct investments, of which 2.5 billion in 2017, while the strong growth in investments year after year testifies to a predictable and stable environment for doing business and investing, which, according to the leading economists, is better than ever. Supporting the government's strategic move to invest in attracting hightech companies, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia has developed new platforms and support services for foreign and domestic investors and companies.

INCENTIVES FOR INVESTORS

The good environment for business and investments is best illustrated by the fact that Serbia is negotiating 56 investment projects with foreign companies at the moment, of total value of about 2.5 billion euros, and if all were realized, 29,000 jobs would be created.

Serbia is attractive to investors because of the significant government subsidies, tax exemptions and skilled, trained and competitive workforce.

Investors are offered a substantial set of financial incentives - from state subsidies, through tax and customs reliefs, to lower costs relating to the use of local infrastructure.

Companies investing in Serbia can count on state subsidies from 3,000 to 7,000 euros per employee, depending on the amount of investment, the number created jobs and the overall development of the municipality in which the investment is realized. Municipalities and cities are fighting for investors by reducing or totally exempting investors from paying certain local taxes, providing various benefits relating to the lease or construction of a facility, and affordable use of local infrastructure.

Regarding tax incentives, investors in Serbia are exempt from paying the profit tax for a period of ten years providing their invest-

egli ultimi tre anni, la Serbia ha attirato quasi sette miliardi di investimenti esteri diretti, di cui 2,5 miliardi nel 2017, e una forte crescita degli investimenti di anno in anno conferma un ambiente prevedibile e stabile per le imprese e gli investimenti, che, secondo i più eminenti economisti, è migliore che mai. Sostenendo la strategia del Governo di investire per attrarre le imprese ad alta tecnologia, la Camera di commercio della Serbia ha sviluppato nuove piattaforme e servizi di supporto per gli investitori e le imprese stranieri e nazionali.

INCENTIVI PER GLI INVESTITORI

Il buon ambiente per le imprese e gli investimenti è illustrato in modo più chiaro dal fatto che la Serbia sta negoziando 56 progetti di investimento con aziende straniere, il cui valore totale è di circa 2,5 miliardi di euro, e se tutti fossero realizzati, si aprirebbero 29.000 posti di lavoro. La Serbia è attraente per gli investitori grazie alle considerevoli sovvenzioni statali, alle agevolazioni fiscali e alla manodopera qualificata, addestrata e competitiva. L'offerta agli investitori è un pacchetto importante di incentivi finanziari - da sovvenzioni statali attraverso agevolazioni fiscali e doganali, fino a costi più bassi a livello di infrastrutture locali.

Le aziende che investono in Serbia possono beneficiare di sovvenzioni statali da 3.000 a 7.000 euro per dipendente, a seconda dell'importo dell'investimento, del numero di posizioni aperte e dello sviluppo del comune in cui l'investimento viene realizzato. Comuni e città stanno cercando di attrarre investitori con la riduzione o l'esenzione totale dal pagamento di alcune tasse locali, vari benefici per la locazione o la costruzione degli impianti, collegamenti più economici con le infrastrutture locali.

Per quanto riguarda gli incentivi fiscali, la Serbia prevede l'esenzione di 10 anni dall'imposta sugli utili per gli investitori i cui investimen-

A portion of the paid taxes and contributions on the salaries of newly employed workers are also refunded to investors. Thanks to the reforms, the time spent on registering a company and the issuance of a building permit has been shortened.

NEW SERVICES OF CCIS FOR INVESTORS AND COMPANIES

Through new analytical services, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia provides investors and business people with required information such as the information about the business climate in Serbia, the opportunities for acquiring state subsidies, the access to the database of greenfield and brownfield locations etc.

Branch associations publish quarterly newsletters with current indicators, from the number of enterprises and their structure, through indicators of production in imports and exports, stock situation, wages, investments, and gross added value of a sector to international trends and their implications on the domestic market. At the regional level, a unique platform has been developed for investors the first product of the Common Chamber of the Western Balkans based in Trieste - which promotes a region of 18 million people as a unique investment destination.

The online platform contains all the information important to potential investors, ranging from macroeconomic indicators and credit and business ratings to information on the regulatory framework for business operations, reasons for investing in our region, the comparative advantages and benefits for investors. The platform enables a detailed search and comparison of data for all six economies of the region in 20 different categories, which include tax regulations, public procurement and administrative procedures relevant to business and investments. Small, innovative companies and their solutions that are recognized worldwide and can be useful to investors occupy a special place on this online platform. Also, future investors are given insight into the experiences of companies that have already invested in this region.

In response to the requirements of modern business, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia has established a Digital Transformation Centre that will help small and medium enterprises to develop a digital strategy, but will also offer specific services. The Centre connects companies that need support in the process of business digitalization with the creators of technologies that can contribute to digitalization, while finding financing modalities.

COMPLEMENTARITY OF THE TWO ECONOMIES Italy is the leading and most important external trade partner of Serbia, and the first export market for Serbian products. The total value of the external trade between the two countries in 2017 amounted to almost 4 billion euros, of which export from Serbia or Italy’s imports amounted to about 2 billion euros. About 10,002 business entities cooperate with the Italian partners, while 1,030 companies are engaged in the external trade in both directions.

Industry, with significant contracts in the automotive industry, agricultural machinery, banking and financial cooperation sector, and footwear and textile production are traditionally the important sectors of cooperation.

Serbian economy sees the cooperation with Italian companies, which, in addition to transfer of technology and know-how, have a great experience in the development of SMEs based on the combination of traditional production and new technologies, as very valuable. A number of successful business endeavours with Italian partners is also the best, first-hand recommendation for new partnerships and investments.

La piattaforma online contiene tutte le informazioni rilevanti per i potenziali investitori, che vanno da indicatori macroeconomici, i rating del credito e delle imprese, alle informazioni sul quadro normativo per le operazioni commerciali e risposte alle domande sul perché investire nella nostra regione, che sono vantaggi comparativi e benefici per gli investimenti. La piattaforma offre una ricerca dettagliata e la possibilità di confrontare i dati di tutte e sei le economie della regione in 20 diverse categorie, che comprendono le normative in materia di politica fiscale, appalti pubblici e procedure amministrative relative alle imprese e agli investimenti. Un posto speciale sul portale è riservato alle piccole imprese innovative e alle loro soluzioni, che sono riconosciute in tutto il mondo e possono essere utili agli investitori. I futuri investitori sono informati delle esperienze delle imprese che hanno già investito in questa regione.

In risposta alle esigenze delle attività commerciali moderne, la Camera di commercio della Serbia ha istituito un Centro di trasformazione digitale che aiuterà le piccole e medie imprese a sviluppare una strategia digitale, ma offrirà anche servizi specifici. Il Centro, da un lato, collega le aziende che hanno bisogno di supporto nel processo di digitalizzazione aziendale, e dall'altro, i portatori di tecnologie che possono contribuire alla digitalizzazione e trovare modi di finanziamento.

LA COMPLEMENTARIETÀ DELLE DUE ECONOMIE L'Italia è il primo e più importante partner del commercio estero della Serbia e il primo mercato di esportazione dei prodotti serbi. Il valore complessivo degli scambi nel 2017 è stato di quasi 4 miliardi di euro, di cui esportazioni dalla Serbia e importazioni dall'Italia hanno raggiunto circa 2 miliardi di euro.

Circa 10.002 entità commerciali operano con i partner italiani, e 1.030 aziende partecipano al commercio estero in entrambe le direzioni.

I settori tradizionalmente importanti per la cooperazione sono l'industria, in cui si realizzano importanti contratti nell'industria automobilistica, i macchinari agricoli, il settore della cooperazione finanziaria bancaria, la produzione di calzature e tessili e altri settori.

What chamber events do you consider to be the most significant this year?

— In addition to the events and manifestations traditionally organized by our Chamber, in the last two years we have paid particular attention to the food sector, namely the promotion of niche food products from Italy and in this sense we have created 2 events «La Dolce Vita» and «Made in Italy in Serbia.» As these events have met with great interest, we are delighted to present them again this year. Through Made in Italy in Serbia, which will be held in November during the Third Week of Italian Cuisine in the world we give the opportunity, with this mini fair, to Italian companies to export and at the same time increase the presence of high quality Italian products in Serbia, such as wine, olive oil, pasta and other products.

I also take this opportunity to announce our next event, La Dolce Vita, which will take place on June 21st in order to present Italian brands from various sectors.

— Oltre agli eventi e alle manifestazioni tradizionalmente organizzate dalla nostra Camera, negli ultimi due anni abbiamo prestato particolare attenzione al settore alimentare, vale a dire alla promozione di prodotti alimentari di nicchia dall'Italia e in questo senso abbiamo ideato 2 eventi che sono La Dolce Vita e Made in Italy in Serbia. Poiché questi eventi hanno riscontrato grande interesse, anche quest’anno li riproponiamo con grande piacere. Attraverso Made in Italy in Serbia, che si terrà a Novembre all’interno della Terza Settimana della Cucina Italiana nel mondo diamo la possibilità, con questa mini fiera, alle aziende italiane di esportare e allo stesso momento aumentare la presenza di prodotti italiani di alta qualità in Serbia, come il vino, l’olio d'oliva, la pasta e altri prodotti ancora. Colgo l’occasione anche per annunciare il nostro prossimo evento evento, La Dolce Vita, che si svolgerà il 21 giugno allo scopo di presentare i brand italiani dei vari settori.

What are the skills that are honored with the "Giuseppe M. Leonardi" award?

— The Leonardi Prize was established by our Chamber in 2010 to commemorate the figure of Giuseppe Leonardi, founder of the CCIS. The prize is awarded to a person or a company, always a member of CCIS that has distinguished itself in the development of economic-commercial relations between Italy and Serbia.

In this way we reward the extraordinary contribution to employment, to the formation of human capital, to the growth of exports from Serbia, to the constant investment in new technologies and innovation, as well as the contribution to the support and development of the local communities in which it operates. here is no country that is closer to Serbia, not only in the cultural but also in the economic sense, than Italy. The way of doing business, the mentality, the flowing language and the market proximity - all these are factors that make the cooperation between Italy and Serbia necessary, large and developing.

For decades, Italy and Serbia have been the most important economic partners, and along with Germany, Italy has been the pillar of

e qualcuno è vicino alla Serbia, non solo in senso culturale ma anche economico, questa è l'Italia. A large part of the economic cooperation takes place through meetings of business people from the two countries, which is partially done directly at trade fairs, especially those in Italy, but also through ICE – the Italian trade agency. Lately, the number of these meetings has increased significantly, and there is no major Italian fair that is important for the Serbian economy that delegations of the Serbian business people did not visit thanks to ICE's branch office in Belgrade.

This is one of the ways in which the "Made in Italy" quality is promoted, which ICE also used on earlier occasions, and certainly one of the most effective ways to increase the trade between the two countries.

COOPERATION STRUCTURE

In the previous period, the economic cooperation was characterized by a balanced trade, significant contracts in the field of joint investments and production cooperation, as well as a high level of cooperation in the field of banking, finances, transport and tourist services.

Italy is one of the most important partners when it comes to banks, since Italian banks are one of the strongest in our market and have helped the development of the Serbian economy with their banking products, which both our country and the economy needed. Serbi mostly exports to Italy cars, clothing and footwear, non-ferrous metals (copper pipes and aluminum in various stages of processing), wood industry products (sawn timber, compensates, individual elements and veneer), agricultural products (mushrooms , sugar, sugar beet, fruit and vegetables / fresh and frozen), outer tyres, raw bovine leather, polyethylene and magnesium. We usually import from Italy raw materials for the footwear and leather industry (additional processing projects for Italian partners), packaging and plastics machinery, new and used passenger cars and trucks and their parts, household appliances, furniture and parts, seamless pipes, confectionery products, paper and cardboard, marble and granite, etc. Investments by Italian companies, other than FIAT and the banks, can be seen mostly in the textile industry, the footwear industry, the export of non-ferrous metallurgy products, fruit industry, as well as in the sugar industry.

STRUTTURA DI COORDINAMENTO

La cooperazione economica nel periodo precedente era caratterizzata da un equilibrio commerciale, da importanti contratti nel campo degli investimenti congiunti e dalla cooperazione produttiva, nonché da un invidiabile livello di cooperazione nel campo dei servizi bancari, finanziari, di trasporto e turistici. L'Italia è uno dei partner più importanti per quanto riguarda le banche, in quanto le banche italiane sono tra le più diffuse nel nostro mercato e contribuiscono allo sviluppo dell'economia serba con i prodotti bancari, che sono necessari per il nostro paese e la nostra economia. Nella struttura delle esportazioni verso il mercato italiano prevalgono automobili finite, lavori di finitura nell'industria dell'abbigliamento e delle calzature, metalli non ferrosi (tubi di rame e alluminio in vari processi), prodotti dell'industria del legno (legname segato, compensati, elementi e piallaccio), prodotti agricoli (funghi, zucchero, tagliatelle di barbabietola da zucchero, frutta e verdura fresche e congelate), pneumatici, cuoio bovino grezzo, polietilene e magnesio. Nella struttura delle importazioni dall'Italia, prevalgono: materie prime e prodotti intermedi per l'industria delle calzature e dell'abbigliamento (lavori di finitura per i partner italiani), macchine per imballaggio e industria della plastica, autovetture e autocarri nuovi e usati e loro componenti, elettrodomestici, mobili e componenti, tubi senza saldatura, dolciumi, carta e cartone, marmi e graniti, ecc. Si evidenziano in particolare gli investimenti delle società italiane, oltre alla FIAT e banche nell'industria tessile, nell'industria delle calzature, nell'esportazione dei prodotti non ferrosi della metallurgia, della frutta in ogni fase del processo produttivo, nonché nell'industria dello zucchero.

An interesting aspect of the cooperation between Serbia and Italy is carried out through another Italian partner in the region, the neighboring Albania, to which Italy is, by far, the most important economic partner. Serbia is also trying to establish cooperation with Italy through trilateral meetings between Serbia, Italy and Albania, a country that was not favoured by the Serbian business people in the past.

PRIORITIES OF FUTURE COOPERATION

Serbia continues to lag behind the leading EU countries in the development of small and mediumd enterprises, and here it is the Italian experience and Italian investments that could be of crucial importance. This segment is incorporated into the plans for the further cooperation between our two countries. Small and medium enterprises that Serbia wants to have more of should be export-oriented. Also, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia and the ICE say that the priorities are bolstering the competitiveness of companies in Serbia and the internationalization of business, in addition to improving the business environment. Another priority is the cooperation in the implementation of the Adriatic-Ionian and Danube strategies, which are the result of the geographical closeness of the two countries.

La priorità è la cooperazione nell'attuazione della strategia adriatico-ionica e quella danubiana, che sono dovute alla vicinanza geografica dei due paesi.

EUROPEAN AREA MEETING OF ITALIAN CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE ABROAD

RIUNIONE DI AREA EUROPA DELLE CAMERE DI COMMERCIO ITALIANE ALL'ESTERO

Representatives of the 30 Italian Chambers of Commerce Abroad gathered in Sofia from 11th to 12th of March 2018 for the European Area Meeting of Italian Chambers of Commerce Abroad, for the occasion coordinated by the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria and represented by President Marco Montecchi. Standing in for our Chamber were President Giorgio Marchegiani, Vice president Maurizio Stecco and Secretary-General Mirjana Kojić.

The European Convention “EURONET-Italian Networking around Europe: Innovation and INTERNATIONalization in DIGITAL SOCIETY within the Bulgarian Presidency of EC 2018” was held as part of the Bulgarian Presidency Semester of the Council of the European Union and was attended by the highest national, Italian and European authorities. The convention’s key topics were digital economy, jobs of the future, high-tech industry and the internationalization of small and medium-sized companies in European markets in the digital era.

I rappresentanti delle 30 Camere di Commercio Italiane all’estero si sono riuniti dall’11 al 12 marzo 2018 a Sofia per la Riunione dell’Area Europa delle Camere di Commercio Italiane all’estero coordinate per l’occasione dalla Camera di Commercio Italiana in Bulgaria e rappresentate dal Presidente Marco Montecchi. Rappresentanti la nostra Camera Il Presidente Giorgio Marchegiani, il Vicepresidente Maurizio Stecco e il Segretario Generale Mirjana Kojić.

Nell’ambito del Semestre di Presidenza bulgara del Consiglio dell’Unione Europea si è tenuto il Convegno Europeo "EURONET-Italian Networking around Europe: "INnovation and INTERNATIONalization in DIGITAL SOCIETY within the Bulgarian Presidency of EC 2018", a cui hanno presenziato le massime autorità nazionali, italiane ed europee.

Le tematiche principali del Convegno sono state l’economia digitale, le professioni del futuro, l’industria high-tech e l’internazionalizzazione delle piccole e medie imprese nei mercati europei nell’era digitale.

GALA NIGHT E PREMIO "GIUSEPPE M. LEONARDI" GALA NIGHT AND “GIUSEPPE M. LEONARDI” AWARD

On the 4th of December 2017 the Italian-Serbian Chamber of Commerce celebrated its 15th anniversary at the Belgrade City Hall. The ceremony was the occasion to deliver the “Giuseppe M. Leonardi” 8th edition award to company Aunde Srb d.o.o.

Many distinguished visitors attended the gala night, among which the Secretary of State at the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Stevan Nikčević and H.E. Giuseppe Manzo, Ambassador of Italy.

The event was followed by cocktail during which guests could taste also Italian food and wines.

La Camera di Commercio Italo-Serba ha celebrato il 4 dicembre 2017 nella sala ricevimenti del Palazzo Comunale (Stari Dvor) della città di Belgrado il 15° anno di attività. La cerimonia è stata l'occasione per consegnare l’ottava edizione del premio "Giuseppe M. Leonardi" all'azienda Aunde Srb d.o.o.

Alla serata di gala hanno presenziato molti ospiti illustri, tra i quali il Segretario di Stato presso il Ministero del Commercio, del Turismo e delle Telecomunicazioni Stevan Nikčević e S.E. Giuseppe Manzo, Ambasciatore d’Italia. L’evento si è poi concluso con un cocktail party molto partecipato, durante il quale gli invitati hanno potuto degustare anche vini italiani accompagnati da un ricco buffet.

As part of the “Second week of the Italian cuisine in the World – The Extraordinary Italian Taste”, on the 24th and the 25th of November 2017, the Italian-Serbian Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with PortaItalia and Bio-Better d.o.o., orginised the event MADE IN ITALY IN SERBIA at the Belgrade Metropole Palace Hotel.

This mini-fair of Italian food and beverage hosted producers of wine, pasta, rice, meet products manufacturers, olive oil, canned products, cheese, sweets and appetizers. During the first day, on the 24th of November, the Italian-Serbian Chamber of Commerce held meetings between Italian producers and Serbian importers and distributors, with retail and wholesale trade representatives and the leaders of the HO.RE.CA. sector in Serbia. Given the large number of visitors and the success of the meetings, this event will be organised again this year in order to gather as many Italian producers as possible and draw many visitors’ attention thanks to the business activities and the promotion of Made in Italy products.

MADE IN ITALY IN SERBIA: NUTRI I TUOI SENSI!

Nell'ambito della "Seconda settimana della cucina italiana nel mondo - The Extraordinary Italian Taste " la Camera di Commercio Italo-Serba, in collaborazione con PortaItalia e Bio-Better d.o.o. ha organizzato la manifestazione MADE IN ITALY IN SERBIA presso il Metropol Palace Hotel di Belgrado il 24 e 25 novembre 2017. Questa mini fiera di prodotti e bevande alimentari italiani ha visto presenti produttori di vini, pasta, riso, prodotti a base di carne, olio d'oliva, prodotti in scatola, formaggi, dolci ed antipasti salati. La Camera di Commercio Italo-Serba durante il primo giorno, venerdì 24 novembre, ha organizzato degli incontri tra produttori italiani e importatori serbi, così come con i distributori, i rappresentanti del commercio al dettaglio ed all'ingrosso di alimenti e bevande, nonché con i maggiori esponenti dell'intero settore HO.RE.CA. in Serbia.

Dato il gran numero di visitatori e il successo degli incontri effettuati, anche quest'anno è in programma questa manifestazione per radunare il maggior numero possibile di produttori italiani e richiamare l'attenzione di molti visitatori grazie all'attività di business e di promozione dei prodotti Made in Italy.

THE ITALIAN-SERBIAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE HELD A CONFERENCE ON “ CARRIER INSURANCE”

On the 19th of April 2018 the Italian-Serbian Chamber of Commerce organized conference on “ Carrier insurance” in collaboration with its associates: DDOR osiguranje – UNIPOL Group, Generali osiguranje, UniCredit Bank, 2Blogistics and Fercam.

In addition to the representative of the Italian Embassy, the event was attended by companies concerned with the following fields: import/export and distribution, carrier and logistics, insurances as well as several law firms.

CONFERENCE “ EU – SERBIA: INVESTMENTS, GROWTH AND EMPLOYMENT” The conference “EU – SERBIA 2018: investments, growth and employment” organized by the Serbian Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with the EU Delegation and supported by the Italian-Serbian Chamber of Commerce was held in Belgrade the 30th of January 2018. Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabić inaugurated the conference declaring the European Union the most important trade partner of all balcans countries, highlighting how investors are searching for potential growing markets and stable economic and financial conditions. „There is a chance that Serbia and Montenegro will be members of the EU before 2025“ declared President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani, adding to be optimist regarding the opening of new chapters and the closure of the already opened ones.

Dario Scannapieco, Vice president of the European Investment Bank affirmed that 78,2 billions of euros for investments throughout Europe and the world have been allocated in 2017 and a part of them will be assigned also to western balcans countries.

President of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce Marko Čadež judged the signing of several agreements and contracts financed by the European Investment Bank (EIB) as the outcome of many years of work by competent ministries, highlighting the importance of B2B meetings organized by the Chamber where representatives of more than 160 firms discussed about practical businesses.

CONFERENZA "UE - SERBIA: INVESTIMENTI, CRESCITA ED OCCUPAZIONE" La conferenza "UE-SERBIA 2018: investimenti, crescita ed occupazione" organizzata dalla Camera di Commercio della Serbia in collaborazione con la Delegazione UE e sostenuta dalla Camera di Commercio Italo-Serba si è tenuta il 30 gennaio 2018 a Belgrado. Ha inaugurato la conferenza il Primo Ministro serbo Ana Brnabić dichiarando l'Unione Europea il partner commerciale più importante di tutti i paesi balcanici e sottolineando come gli investitori siano alla ricerca di mercati con un potenziale di crescita e stabili condizioni economiche e finanziarie. "È possibile che la Serbia e il Montenegro diventino membri dell'UE prima del 2025", ha dichiarato il Presidente del Parlamento Europeo, Antonio Tajani, aggiungendo di essere ottimista per quanto riguarda l'apertura di nuovi capitoli e la chiusura di quelli già aperti.

Il Vicepresidente della Banca Europea per gli investimenti, Dario Scannapieco ha affermato che nel 2017 sono stati stanziati 78,2 miliardi di euro per gli investimenti in tutta Europa e nel mondo e che una parte di essi sarà destinata anche ai paesi dei Balcani occidentali.

WORKING BREAKFAST ON #MSFI15 (INCOMES FROM CUSTOMERS’ CONTRACTS) AND THE LATEST TAX LEGISLATION CHANGINGS AS PART OF INCOMES TAXATION OF NON-RESIDENT LEGAL ENTITIES On the 24th of April 2018 our associate Confida Consulting d.o.o. held a working breakfast with the support of our Chamber, the German-Serbian Chamber of Commerce AHK – Serbia and the trade department of the Embassy of Austria. Participants had the opportunity to obtain more details regarding current themes as: IFRS 15 incomes from customers’ contracts – application from the 1st of January 2018, new incomes taxation rules deriving from non-resident legal entities’ services with tax allowances, as well as a turnover report presentation with VAT return – application from the 1st of July 2018.

ANOTHER SPEED BUSINESS MEETING ARRANGED: QUICK SPEED BUSINESS MEETINGS FOR FOUR INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS ASSOCIATIONS On th 26th of April 2018 a speed business meeting was held in Belgrade involving the associated firms of four international business associations: the Italian-Serbian Chamber of Commerce, the French-Serbian Chamber of Commerce, the Nordic Business Alliance and for the first time the Japanese Businesse Alliance.

More than 40 firms attended the event, whose representatives, thanks to the 8 minutes meetings, had the opportunity to meet other foreign and national companies and to extend their own corporate contacts.

After 10 meetings a cocktail was organized, so that the representatives of the companies involved could introduce themselves to other companies with which they had no direct face-to-face meetings.

Hanno partecipato all’evento più di 40 aziende i cui rappresentanti hanno avuto l'opportunità, attraverso incontri di otto minuti, di incontrare altre società estere e nazionali e di espandere la propria rete di contatti aziendali.

Dopo dieci incontri è stato organizzato un cocktail durante il quale i rappresentanti delle società partecipanti si sono presentati ad altre società con le quali non avevano avuto incontri diretti.

MEDIATION IN ECONOMY – REPUBLIC OF SERBIA Law office TSG Tomić Sinđelić Groza held on the 2nd of February 2018 the seminar titled „Mediation in economy – Republic of Serbia“, in collaboration with the Italian-Serbian Chamber of Commerce (CCIS), The Swiss-Serbian Chamber of Commerce (SSCC) and the Slovenian Business Club (SPK) with the purpose of presenting mediation at the attendees, namely the way to resolve controversies in which the parties have complete control over the outcomes of the controversy.

Ljubica Tomić, mediator and one of TSG law firm’s partners showed to participants possibilities and advantages of mediation compared to judicial proceedings, after which Ivana Stefanović, lawyer and mediator, shared her practical experiences regarding this current theme.

Other speakers of the seminar were: Blažo Nedić, lawyer, Mediator of the World Bank, of JAMS International and President of the National Association of serbian mediators and Dr. Helena Devetak, lawyer and mediator of Devetak and partners law firm of Slovenia.

MOST RECURRING EMPLOYERS’ MISTAKES IN THE CANCELLATION OF EMPLOYMENT CONTRACTS AND HOW TO AVOID THEM Law firm Janković Popović Mitić, in collaboration with the Italian-Serbian Chamber of Commerce, the bilateral chambers of commerce and the associations of which it is part of, held on the 30th of January 2018 the seminar „Most recurring employers' mistakes in the cancellation of employment contracts and how to avoid them“.

The aim of the seminar organized by law firm Janković Popović Mitić was to raise awaireness about the process of employment contract resolution, the modalities in which possible mistakes can be avoided, with particular attention to the current legislation, to legal advice of the competent Ministry and to the most effective ways for the employer to regulate the process of the employment contract’s suspension with the approval of internal acts. The seminar was intended for in-house consultants, companies’ directors as well as human resource experts.

More than 150 attendees had the unique opportunity to ask practical questions to JPM Senior Partner Zorica Alavantić and to upper associates Jelena Aleksić and Milan Ranđelović, therefore analyzing their working practices in this field.

Lo Studio legale Janković Popović Mitić in collaborazione con la Camera di Commercio Italo-Serba e con le camere di commercio bilaterali e le associazioni di cui fa parte ha tenuto il 30 gennaio 2018 il seminario ''Gli errori più frequenti del datore di lavoro nella cancellazione del contratto di lavoro dei dipendenti e come evitarli''.

L'obiettivo del seminario dello Studio legale Janković Popović Mitić è stato quello di far conoscere la procedura della risoluzione del contratto di lavoro, i modi in cui eventuali errori possono essere evitati, con particolare attenzione all'attuale normativa, ai pareri legali del Ministero competente e ai modi più efficaci per il datore di lavoro di regolare la procedura della cessazione del contratto di lavoro con l'approvazione degli atti interni. Il seminario era destinato ai consulenti in-house, ai direttori delle società, nonché agli esperti nell'ambito delle risorse umane.

The Italian-Serbian Chamber of Commerce took part at the opening ceremony of the 40th International Tourism Fair within the prestigious DDOR osiguranje stand (part of the Unipol Group). Opening the fair, Prime Minister Ana Brnabić declared tourism as one of the most successful areas with regard to turnover and that the Government would continue to invest in this economic sector. With the slogan “Holidays are waiting for you!” the tourism fair continued until the 25th of February with around 1.200 exhibitors from 55 countries.

La Camera di Commercio Italo-Serba ha partecipato alla cerimonia di inaugurazione della 40ª Fiera Internazionale del Turismo presentandosi all'interno del prestigioso stand di DDOR Assicurazione (parte del Gruppo Unipol). Inaugurando la fiera, il Primo Ministro Ana Brnabić ha dichiarato il turismo uno dei settori di maggior successo per quanto riguarda il fatturato e che il Governo continuerà ad investire in questo settore economico. Con lo slogan "La vacanza ti aspetta", la fiera del turismo si è protratta fino al 25 febbraio con circa 1.200 espositori provenienti da 55 paesi.

Within the framework of a series of events linked to the “Second week of the Italian cuisine in the World – The Extraordinary Italian Taste”, on 23rd of November 2017, CCIS has organized the event dedicated to the famous pizza napoletana at the restaurant Trattoria Campania with the Associazione dei pizzaiuoli napoletani (prestigious association of Italian pizza craftsmen, APN of Naples) and with fans of Italy and of the Italian cuisine. The Italian National Commission of UNESCO has chosen pizza napoletana as its candidate for the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage, in this way celebrating the art of neapolitan pizza makers.

Nell’ambito di una serie di eventi legati alla manifestazione della "Seconda settimana della cucina italiana nel mondo", il 23 novembre 2017 abbiamo preparato e assaggiato la famosa pizza napoletana presso il ristorante Trattoria Campania con l'Associazione dei pizzaiuoli napoletani (prestigiosa associazione dei mastri pizzaioli in Italia, APN di Napoli) e con gli amici dell’Italia e della cucina italiana.

La Commissione Nazionale Italiana per l'UNESCO ha scelto la pizza napoletana come suo candidato alla lista UNESCO dei beni culturali immateriali e in questo modo ha onorato l'arte dei pizzaioli napoletani.

There is a particular aspect about Italy that we cannot ascribe to superficiality. Many believe that the “northern origins” holds the responsibility, which Italy surely has, more than others.

'Italia è sempre stata capace di confezionare il prodotto nel miglior modo possibile e renderlo oggetto del desiderio di tutto il mondo: non importa se si tratti di camicie, formaggi o automobili – tutto è sempre visivamente attraente. Ma dietro l'aspetto perfetto, si nascondono l'affidabilità e la qualità - macchine che non vi deluderanno, il cibo dal gusto insuperabile, i vestiti della migliore qualità...

Dietro l'Italia si nasconde una miscela insolita che non possiamo associare alla superficialità in nessun modo e molti pensano che "l'origine occidentale" esige responsabilità. Naturalmente, l'Italia ce ne ha, perfino più degli altri.

NUMBERS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES

Italy's economy is the eighth largest in the world, with an absolute amount of gross domestic product (nominally) of $ 1,850,735,000,000 (Yes, almost two trillion!). At the regional level, the Italian economy is the third largest economy in the eurozone, behind Germany's and France's. In relative terms or purchasing power parity (PPA), the Italian living standard is also among the highest in the world. The secondary or industrial sector is the driving force behind Italian development and the current axis of its economy, unlike the service sector in other country, thus making the Italian economy more robust than others in Europe and the world. Although, Italy did have difficult time overcoming economic difficulties post-global financial crisis in 2008, it still managed to.

If it didn't have such a strong secondary economy and production branch, just like Poland and Germany, the consequences would have been much harder. As with the economies of many European countries, the tertiary sector or the service sector also plays an important role in the Italian economy. The country is a member of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the G-7 Group and the G-8 Group, not without reason.

In the post-war period, Italy was transformed from an agriculture-based economy, which was seriously affected by the consequences of great wars, to one of the most developed countries in the world and the leader in the design industry, international trade and world exports. According to the Human Development Index, the country has a high standard of living and it ranks eight in the world regarding the quality of life according to The Economist. Italy is the third country in the world in terms of gold reserves and the third largest country by net contribution to the EU budget. The country is also known for its influential and innovative business sector, which makes it a highly industrialized nation (Italy is the second country in Europe after Germany in terms of goods production) and has a traditionally competitive agricultural sector (the country is the largest wine producer in the world).

As we have mentioned earlier, the country is known for its creative projects marked by high quality production in the automotive, maritime, fashion and household appliances industries. Italy is also the largest market of luxury products in Europe (third worldwide).

Italians love luxury, apparently. One should not forget that they like to accumulate it too - the private wealth in the country is one of the largest in the world! Also, the country is considered the most suita-

Il settore secondario o industriale è il motore dello sviluppo italiano e l'asse attuale della sua economia, e non, come in altri paesi, il settore dei servizi e ciò ha reso l'economia italiana più solida rispetto ad altre in Europa e nel mondo. ble for children, it is beneficial for pensioners, and quite comfortable for workers. In the time of inhumane capitalism, some of these happiness factors are more important than ordinary growth figures.

Italy, despite the aging of the population and low birthrate, has a soft approach to immigrants, especially from Eastern Europe and North Africa, and does not have to worry much about the attractiveness of its economy to foreigners.

ITALY IS HUNGRY FOR INVESTMENTS, SO GENERATING PROFIT IN OTHER MARKETS, INCLUDING SERBIAN, IS AN IMPERATIVE FOR A NEW IMPULSE TO THE ITALIAN ECONOMY, WHICH, DESPITE THE DIFFICULTIES, IS SEEN AS VERY ROBUST AND IT DOESN'T TAKE DOWN OTHER ECONOMIES WITH IT DURING BAD TIMES, LIKE THE AMERICAN

ai più piccoli, è bello per i pensionati e abbastanza comodo per i lavoratori - e nel tempo del capitalismo sempre più disumano, qualche volta anche questi fattori sono più importanti delle solite cifre di crescita.

L'Italia, nonostante l'invecchiamento della popolazione e la bassa natalità, è "morbida" verso gli immigrati, soprattutto dall'Europa dell'Est e dal Nord Africa, e non deve preoccuparsi molto della sua economia nei confronti degli stranieri.

L'ALTRO LATO DEL PROGRESSO

Tuttavia, l'Italia ha bisogno di investimenti e di espansione dell'economia. L'economia italiana non tornerà al livello precedente alla crisi finanziaria nel 2008 fino alla metà del prossimo decennio, l'ha analizzato il Fondo Monetario Internazionale (FMI), indicando i "due decenni perduti". THE OTHER SIDE OF PROGRESS

Still, Italy needs investments and growing economy. The Italian economy will not return to the level it was before the 2008 financial crisis until the middle of the next decade, the analysis conducted by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has shown, citing "two lost decades". On the other hand, by 2025, the economies of other eurozone members will have recorded between 20 and 25 percent growth relative to 2008. The IMF is now expecting that the Italian economy, the third largest in the eurozone area, will grow by less than 1 percent this year, which is very close to zero, which, in turn, burdens investment prospects. But this only means that Italy is hungry for investments, so generating profit in other markets, including Serbian, is an imperative for a new impulse to the Italian economy, which, despite the difficulties, is seen as very robust and it doesn't take down other economies with it during bad times, like the American.

Italian culture as a tool for understanding the present world

T

he Italian Cultural Institute in Belgrade promotes the Italian language and culture in Serbia and supports cultural exchanges.Cultural relations are a fundamental aspect of relations between the institutions and the citizens of our two countries. The growth of cultural relations favors sustainable socio-economic development, raises awareness on the importance of cultural heritage, creating an identity that derives from the different cultures which have formed the common heritage of humanity throughout history.

The image of Italy is strongly connected to its culture and to the main phases of the historical development and transformation of the Mediterranean and of Europe. It is well known that in the cultural field the Italian heritage is considered among the most important in the world.Some passages in our history have been fundamental for the creation of that Heritage: from the institutional arrangements of ancient Rome, to the juridical civilization of the Roman Empire, from the renewal of urban civilization in the Middle Ages to the revival of humanism, from the artistic flourishing of the Renaissance to the new conception of the modern world. The cultural heritage of our country is present and alive in the Italian cities, visited every year by millions of tourists.The “Italian Grand Tour” is a unique cultural experience, that puts everyone in direct contact with the roots of the civilization in which we live today.

The spread of Italian culture in the global world generates today new dimensions and collective values. Italian culture is also taste, aesthetic sensibility, and lifestyle. The Italian contribution to the development of the cultural industry and creative enterprises has become part of a vision of the world that admires the elegance and functionality of Italian cultural products, appreciated by the public for those originality and quality features that make them unique. Behind the surprising successes of Italian fashion, cuisine and design lies the true secret, the great cultural and artistic heritage that is at the origin.

Italian culture is among the protagonist voices of the contemporary scene in a wide range of events. Artistic and intellectual currents such as Futurism, Arte povera and Transavanguardia have profoundly influenced the cultural profile of the twentieth century, while in the musical field, from opera to contemporary music the presence of the renewed Italian compositional and interpretive tradition is recognized as essential.The most recent Italian cinema and literature offer other new ideas to reflect on some of the most relevant issues of our existence as citizens of Europe and the world.

Studying the language and knowing Italian art means approaching this great heritage, opening up to the contemporary world with a perspective enriched by the diversity and uniqueness of the cultural experiences to which everyone is free to draw.

’Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Belgrado promuove la lingua e la cultura italiana in Serbia e supporta gli scambi culturali siano un aspetto fondamentale dei rapporti tra le istituzioni e tra i cittadini dei nostri due Paesi. La crescita delle relazioni culturali favorisce lo sviluppo socio-economico sostenibile, consolida la consapevolezza del valore del patrimonio culturale allungando le radici dell’identita’ e includendo nella sua costituzione le diverse culture che nella storia hanno composto il comune patrimonio dell’umanita’.

L’immagine dell’Italia e’ fortemente connessa a quella della sua cultura e alle principali fasi di sviluppo e trasformazione della storia del Mediterraneo e dell’Europa. E’ noto come nel campo culturale il patrimonio italiano sia considerato tra i piu’ importanti al mondo. Alcuni passaggi della nostra storia sono stati fondamentali per la costituzione di tale patrimonio: dagli assetti istituzionali dell’antica Roma, alla civilta’ giuridica dell’Impero, dal rinnovamento della civilta’ urbana nel Medioevo al rilancio dell’umanesimo, dalla fioritura artistica del Rinascimento alla nuova concezione del mondo moderno. L’eredita’ culturale del nostro Paese e’ presente e viva nelle citta’ italiane, visitate ogni anno da milioni di. Il “Grand Tour italiano” e’ un’esperienza culturale unica, il contatto diretto con le radici della civilta’ in cui oggi viviamo.

La diffusione della cultura italiana nel mondo globale genera oggi anche nuove dimensioni e valori collettivi. Cultura italiana e’ anche gusto, sensibilita’ estetica, stile di vita. Il contributo italiano allo sviluppo dell’industria culturale e delle imprese creative e’ entrato a far parte di una visione del mondo che ammira l’eleganza e la funzionalita’ dei prodotti culturali italiani, apprezzati dal pubblico per quelle caratteristiche di originalita’ e di qualita’ che li rendono unici. Alle spalle dei soprendenti successi della moda, della cucina e del design italiano si puo’ intravederne il segreto, cioe’ il grande patrimonio culturale e artistico che sta all’origine.

La cultura italiana e’ tra le voci protagoniste della contemporaneita’ in un ampio ventaglio di manifestazioni. Correnti artistiche e intellettuali come il futurismo, l’arte povera e la transavanguardia hanno profondamente influenzato il profilo culturale del XX secolo, mentre nel campo musicale, dall’opera lirica alla musica contemporanea la presenza della rinnovata tradizione compositiva e interpretativa italiana e’ riconosciuta come essenziale. Il cinema e la letteratura italiana piu’ recente offrono altri e nuovi spunti per riflettere su alcune delle questioni piu’ rilevanti della nostra esistenza come cittadini dell’Europa e del mondo.

Studiare la lingua e conoscere l’arte italiana significa avvicinarsi a questo grande patrimonio, aprirsi al mondo contemporaneo con una prospettiva arricchita dalla diversita’ e unicita’ delle esperienze culturali a cui ciascuno e’ libero di attingere.

offee in Italy is more than just a drink, it is a way of life. Introduced in the 1500’s, coffee has played a crucial part in the Italian culture as it is fundamental for its inhabitants.

There is no better feeling than enjoying the perfect sips of coffee under the Italian sky. The nation has cultivated its passion with the creation of it’s various types.

Coffee was introduced to Europe in the 17th century. But it wasn't until the invention of a steam-driven, coffee-making machine in the late 19th century that Italy gave the world the “espresso”- very aro-

Non c'è una migliore sensazione che godersi sorsi di caffè sotto il cielo italiano. La nazione ha coltivato questa passione attraverso la creazione di vari tipi di caffè.

It is owned by the Illy Coffee Industry, and holds courses for baristas, coffee producers, and coffee bar managers. It is counted as a centre of excellence, created to promote the culture of high quality coffee through education and training.

An Italian person might find the preparation of coffee in Serbia very peculiar and long-lasting, (since it takes at least 10 minutes,) and for Italians this may be a bit too much, especially when the espresso is done within a few moments! However, we are glad to say that just as important coffee is for us, it is crucial for the Italians as well, making the two of us the coffee-holics of Europe!

L’Italia però si è spinta oltre. Il paese è molto orgoglioso di aver creato la prima istituzione che valorizza il caffè in tutto le sue essenze: l’Università del Caffè, con sede a Trieste! È di proprietà dell’Industria di Caffe Illy, e offre corsi per baristi, produttori di caffè e gestori di coffee bar. È considerato un centro di eccellenza, creato per promuovere la cultura del caffè di alta qualità attraverso l'istruzione e la formazione.

Una persona italiana potrebbe trovare che la preparazione del caffè in Serbia molto particolare e duratura, (dato che ci vogliono almeno 10 minuti,) e per gli italiani questo potrebbe essere un po’ troppo, specialmente quando l’espresso si fa in pochi attimi! Tuttavia, siamo lieti di affermare che altrettanto importante è il caffè per noi, è fondamentale anche per gli italiani, rendendo noi due i caffè-holici d’Europa.

Verdi's contribution to unification • Come Verdi ha aiutato l'unificazione

W

e have all heard of Verdi and his famous operas, but we have forgotten about the story how his music, in combination with strange grafitti popping up throughout Italy, helped in the final, although quite late, unification of this great and beautiful country.

Can you imagine any country today being in nation-wide mourning over the death of a classical composer? Hardly! But that was possible in Italy over 100 years ago thanks to Giuseppe Verdi. The composer was born 200 years ago and died in 1901, and yet Italy suddenly started mourning him. Hundreds of thousands of people went out into the streets to sing his arias. Those were different times, but still that was so like Italy, the country of wine and opera. But, there's something else too.

The reason why the Italians came out in the streets is, in fact, quite non-musical – or rather it was much more than music. Before the unification of Italy, which, unlike most European countries (other than Germany), was not united and spoke with one language, Verdi's operas

onosciamo tutti Verdi e le sue opere, ma è stata un po' trascurata la storia del modo in cui la sua musica, insieme a graffiti curiosi per tutta l'Italia, ha aiutato la finale, anche se abbastanza tardiva, unificazione di questo paese grande e magnifico.

Riuscite a immaginare un paese oggi in lutto nazionale a causa della morte di un compositore classico? Difficilmente. Ma è stato possibile in Italia più di 100 anni fa. Giuseppe Verdi è riuscito a farlo agli italiani. Lo stesso Verdi, che nacque 200 anni fa, morì nel 1901 e l'Italia improvvisamente si mise a piangere unanimemente. Centinaia di migliaia di persone scesero in strada per cantare le sue arie. Era un'epoca diversa, ma questa era anche l'Italia, paese di vino e opera. Ma c'è anche un'altra ragione.

Il motivo per cui gli italiani scesero in strada è in realtà completamente non musicale - si può dire che la ragione era molto più della musica. Le opere di Verdi furono, prima dell'unificazione dell'Italia, che, a differenza della maggior parte dei paesi europei (a parte la

Namely, when Nabucco, Verdi's most popular opera, had its premiere in Milan's La Scala in 1842, "Italy" was just an antic geographical term. In reality, the territory was simply a group of geographically neighburing kingdoms and the principality with the common language as the only unifying factor.

When, during the funeral procession, the Italians were crying and shouting “Viva Verdi!”, this had a twofold meaning because, during the period of Risorgimento, V.E.R.D.I. was code for Vittorio Emmanuele Re D'Italia, the King of the united Italy in 6th century. And all of this was happening some forty odd years before the actual unification happened! With the help of the Jewish Slaves Choir, Verdi not only gave voice to the cry of the disenfranchised Italians who identified with the Jewish slavery, but also, thanks to the power of his own name and the graffiti that were popping up all over Italian cities, he gave the foun-

dation for the Italian nationalism and unification. It was Venice, which belonged to the Habsburg Empire, and Rome, the Eternal City and the Papal State were left out of the first phase of the declaration of the Italian unification in Turin, because the Italian nationalists could not agree.

Verdi himself was wholeheartedly in favour of the unified Italy, as it was Garibaldi who advocated a a different, more militant approach and whose own country, paradoxically, was left out of the unification.

In 1848, after the uprising in Milan, he wrote the following to his friend in Paris, the opera librettist Francesco Piave:“Respect these heroes! Praise for all of Italy, which at this moment, is really great! The time of its release is finally heard!“ He continued in a non-pacifist manner: „You speak to me of music! What's got into you? Do you believe I want to concern myself now with notes, with sounds? There must be only one music welcome to the ears of Italians in 1848. The music of the cannon!”

Joining the Austrian-Prussian War in 1866, on the side of Prussia that defeated Austria, Italy won over Venice.

Since then, the borders of Italy and Austria will no longer be changed until the end of the First World War. After France's defeat in the war with Prussia and the overthrow of Napoleon III, who was a papal patron, on 20th September, 1870, the Italian army wandered into liberated Rome.

All the unifying struggles had been brought to an end. The former powerful Papal state was reduced to a small territory in the centre of Rome called the Vatican. Italy was united, and Rome became the royal capital.

The special law regulated the relations with the Vatican, but the Pope did chose not to obey by it. He declined to retire to "voluntary slavery" in the Vatican, which will last until the Vatican's 1929 international recognition. Italy became complete in 1870, to Verdi's great joy.

Che non fosse orientato al pacifismo in quei giorni, testimoniano anche le sue parole: “Mi parlate di musica! Cosa vi ha preso?... Credete che io voglia interessarmi ora delle note, dei suoni?… Nel 1848 ci deve essere solo un benvenuto musicale alle orecchie degli italiani. La musica dei cannoni!”.

Partecipando nella guerra austro-prussiana nel 1866, dalla parte della Prussia che sconfisse l'Austria, l'Italia ottenne Venezia. Da allora, i confini italiani e austriaci non cambieranno più fino alla fine della prima guerra mondiale. Dopo la sconfitta della Francia nella guerra con la Prussia e il rovesciamento di Napoleone III, che era un patrono papale, il 20 settembre 1870, l'esercito italiano marciò nella Roma liberata. Tutte le lotte per l'unificazione si completarono con successo. Allo Stato Pontificio una volta potente e vasto fu concesso un piccolo territorio nel centro di Roma - il Vaticano. L'Italia era unita e Roma divenne la capitale reale. Con una legge speciale si regolarono i rapporti con il Vaticano, ma il Papa non riconobbe questa legge.

Dichiarò di ritirarsi alla "prigionia volontaria" nel Vaticano, che durerà fino al riconoscimento internazionale del Vaticano nel 1929. Nel 1870 l'Italia divenne completa, alla grande gioia di Verdi.

It is not surprising that Verdi's contemporaries quickly understood the messages of his operas Nabucco, Ernani and Attila, and accepted the ideas of the Italian nationalism. Verdi had the talent to convey a political message in the form of superior art, while, at the same time, winning the hearts and souls of people with his subtle, hymn-like melodies, as well as also awakening them to patriotic action. He had a genius of a politician and an artist, all fused in the same person. He was a Republican in his soul, but he supported the king who was anti-clerical. His genius for diplomacy and the way he conveyed emotions remain the ideal for the Italians today, and his music, despite some people forgetting its long-standing political significance, still conquers hearts and souls.

Non sorprende affatto che i contemporanei di Verdi capivano al volo i messaggi delle sue opere: Nabucco, Ernani e Attila, accettandone le idee come idee del nazionalismo italiano. Verdi aveva il talento di trasmettere un messaggio politico sotto forma dell'arte suprema, di entrare nello stesso tempo nei cuori e nelle anime delle persone con le sue melodie sottili e inneggianti, ma contemporaneamente di suscitarle all'azione patriottica. Aveva un genio del politico e dell'artista in una sola persona, era un repubblicano nell'anima ma sosteneva il re che era anticlericale. Il suo genio per la diplomazia e la trasmissione delle emozioni rimane ancor oggi l'ideale ammirato dagli italiani, e la sua musica conquista ancora cuori e anime anche di coloro che hanno dimenticato il suo significato politico molto tempo fa.

talians are not at all naive when it comes to food - their cuisine is generally considered one of the best in the world, while many actually deem it the best. Luckily, Italy has created some of the best dishes ever, such as various types of pasta, lasagna or pizza, out of necessity.

WINGING IT AS A RECIPE

To clarify… La Cucina Povera is an Italian term for “impoverished cuisine” where the cook is improvising with what they have. For instance, if you have spaghetti and you happen to catch some clams, you are going to make spaghetti with clams, with added spices. That’s one recipe. If you have tomatoes to add, there’s another recipe. If you have a piece of round dough and you spread tomato sauce all over it, and then top it off with cheese, there’s the first ever pizza. If the Italians didn’t have to wing it, and if the destiny did not cruelly demote them from being the biggest empire in the world to, at one point, the least developed part of Europe,would have never had it's great recepies.

We should not underestimate the fact that Italy is right in the centre of the Mediterranean – at the intersection of Africa, Asia, and Eastern and Western Europe, with the country’s north embedded deep in Central Europe and the fertile plains of the Po river, while the South mostly oriented towards fishing and trading with the Orient. Considering the enormity of the Italian diaspora, as well as the cultural and imperial influence of Venice and Genoa, the Italian cuisine has influenced a huge number of other cuisines, and above all the Brazilian, Argentine, American, and all Balkan cuisines.

The main elements of the ever so popular Italian cuisine are wine and cheese. The Italians differ from all these similar cuisines because they consume a huge amount of different types of pasta, which have different names depending on the shape.

i italiani non sono affatto "ingenui" quando si tratta dei cibi: la loro cucina è generalmente considerata una delle migliori del mondo, mentre per molti sembra che proprio essa è la migliore. È una benedizione che l'Italia ha inventato "per necessità" le migliori ricette come paste, lasagne, spaghetti o pizza.

ARRANGIARSI CON UNA RICETTA

Per chiarire, "la cucina povera" è la parola italiana per la cucina semplice, dove lo chef si arrangia utilizzando quello che ha a disposizione. Ad esempio, se avete spaghetti e catturate conchiglie, farete spaghetti con conchiglie e spezie. Ecco come è nata una delle ricette, se avete solo i pomodori, ecco un'altra. Non va sottovalutato il fatto che l'Italia si trova nel pieno centro del Mediterraneo: al crocevia tra Africa, Asia, Europa orientale e occidentale, con il nord del paese profondo in Europa centrale e le fertili pianure del Po, con il sud orientato alla pesca e al commercio con l'Oriente. Poiché la diaspora italiana era enorme, così come l'influenza culturale e "imperiale" di Venezia e Genova, la cucina italiana ha influenzato un gran numero di cucine, e soprattutto quella brasiliana, argentina, americana e di tutti i paesi balcanici. Gli elementi principali della cucina che sono così popolari nel mondo sono il vino e il formaggio.

Last year, you were the guest chef in Enso for the first time. What was that experience like for you?

— Oh, I love the energy that place has! And it all starts with the super sympathique owners Miša and Tijana and their crew. I love how they successfully combine food, drinks, great clients and my type of music, in (almost) one place! I am referring to BitefArtCafe, of course.

Come è stata questa esperienza per Lei? — Oh, adoro l'energia che quel posto ha! E tutto inizia con i super simpatici proprietari Miša e Tijana e il loro staff. Mi piace come riescono a combinare cibo, bevande, fantastici clienti e il mio tipo di musica, in (quasi) un unico posto! Parlo certamente del BitefArtCafe.

You take pasta and truffles very seriously, we’ve heard. What else do you like to prepare?

— Pasta is my thing. I really know how to make, cook and eat pasta.

It is in my genes. Yes, I also love fish and meat (wild birds especially), but I cannot go more than 4 or 5 days a week without pasta.

Lately, with my sous chef Darko, I started making more different desserts and I like it.

Come abbiamo sentito, Lei prende la pasta e i tartufi molto seriamente. Che altro Le piace preparare?

— Sono debole per la pasta. So davvero come preparare, cucinare e mangiare la pasta. È nei miei geni. Sì, amo anche il pesce e la carne (soprattutto gli uccelli selvatici), ma non posso stare più di 4 o 5 giorni alla settimana senza pasta. Ultimamente, con il mio sous-chef Darko, ho iniziato a preparare dolci più diversi e me ne piace.

In Serbia, one of the first things that come to mind when someone mentions Italy is good food. Do you agree with this?

— Oh, Juventus is not the first thing that comes to mind?! Just kidding!

I do and I don’t agree with that statement. There are many restaurants in Italy that use pre-cooked food and have huge menus, and there are fewer small, family run trattorias, with a handful of dishes on the menu which you can be certain are home-made and fresh. So, the thing that you associate Italy with is all right, providing you are referring to how things used to be. Now, that’s not the case so much.

In Serbia, una delle prime cose che vengono alla mente quando si parla di Italia è la buona tavola. Lei è d'accordo?

— Oh, ma la Juventus non è la prima cosa che viene in mente? Sto scherzando! Io sono e non sono d'accordo con questa constatazione. Ci sono molti ristoranti in Italia che utilizzano cibi precotti e hanno menù enormi, e c'è un minor numero di piccole trattorie, a gestione familiare, con una manciata di piatti sul menù che certamente sono fatti in casa e sono freschi. Quindi, la cosa con cui si associa l'Italia è giusta, a condizione che si riferisca a come le cose erano. Ora, questo non è interamente il caso.

You perfected your skills in the USA. How did this experience influence your cooking?

— It didn't, really. In the US, I cooked the same way I learned in Italy.

There I could get real Italian products (like parmiggiano, prosciutto, flour, etc.), so it was just like cooking in Italy.

Ha perfezionato le Sue competenze negli Stati Uniti. In che modo questa esperienza ha influenzato la Sua cucina?

— Davvero non ha influenzato. Negli Stati Uniti ho cucinato nello stesso modo in cui ho imparato in Italia. Lì potevo ottenere veri prodotti italiani (come parmigiano, prosciutto, farina, ecc.), quindi era proprio come cucinare in Italia.

What are you preparing for the guests this time around?

— Fresh pasta like usual, and this time I will prepare a dish with bottarga (dry mullet roe) and my favourite stuffed pasta - a surprise dish! Don’t miss it!

Cosa sta preparando per gli ospiti questa volta?

— Pasta fresca come al solito, e questa volta preparerò un piatto con bottarga e la mia pasta preferita ripiena - un piatto a sorpresa! Non mancare!

CINQUE TERRE

The place that is increasingly being talked about on Facebook is a complex of five towns on the coast of the Ligurian Sea, in the eponymous province of Liguria. If you are doubtful why is Liguria so green in the middle for summer when, for instance, the greenery in Montenegro or Greece is drying up, this is because Liguria is the place where the Alpine and Mediterranean air collides resulting in a lot of rain. All of this can spoil your enjoyment, but not too much, since these five small towns, sitting on steep cliffs with colorful houses, are perfect for taking pictures! They are called, in geographical order, Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore, and together they are under the UNESCO protection and make the Cinque Terre National Park. If you are not caught up in the rainy weather, the climate here is ideal, but given the steep shores, the beaches are rather short and not really fit for long sunbathing. Regardless, Cinque Terre will take your breath away!

Here, ancient civilizations such as Greek or Romean did not have much influence, but there are Phoenician and Roman colonies, such as Taros. Since low-cost carriers now fly to our country too, you can catch a flight to Alghero in Sardinia via Memmingen, and visit one of the westernmost points in Italy, where, believe it or not, Catalan is spoken.

It is a place of wild beauty, the place where you go if you want to be alone to enjoy the long beaches without many people around. Traditionally, this is the place that wealthy tourists frequent. It is populated by people who speak a very archaic language that resembles the Latin the most out of all the
