FLOOR PLAN - TYPICAL PODIUM LEVELS As part of an early stage project undergoing rezoning, I familiarized myself with the zoning bylaws and community plans, and learned the process of working a concept through the city approvals process.
THE REZONING PROCESS We worked to understand the character of the existing neighborhood, working through how the design could be progressive while also being sensitive to its context.
PUBLIC OPEN HOUSES We displayed our design at multiple public open houses, where I helped explain the proposed design and responded to questions from the public.
PROJECT RESPONSIBILITIES As a primary member on a small team, I was responsible for many nonmanagement tasks, including modeling, drawing, rendering, and coordinating with the landscape consultant. I was also active throughout the design process through sketching, modeling, and collaborative charrettes.

RESPONSIBILITIES & OWNERSHIP For this project, I was part of a large project team; I took specific ownership of the lighting coordination, signage planning & design, and also played a key role in visualization and preparing presentation materials.
CONSTRUCTION PROGRESS PHOTO BY GERRY KOPELOW LIGHTING COORDINATION I advised and coordinated with our lighting consultants. This scope particularly focused on the public realm, with key design features in the public stair, the Grand Stair soffit, the Skywalk, and integrated lighting within landscape elements and plaza tiling.

MODELING, DRAWING, DETAILING I shared a number of responsibilities with other team members, including Revit modeling, detailing (particularly the curtain wall, with some technical guidance), design and sketching exercises.
SIGNAGE PACKAGE Tasked with the signage and wayfinding for True North Square, I created a consistent guiding aesthetic for the signage across the whole project. This included base building signage as well as protocol for future tenant signage.

RENDERING BY ATCHAIN RENDERINGS & VISUALIZATION I also prepared a number of renderings, diagrams, and other visual aids. These were used for client presentations, as well as numerous internal meetings as a design assist tool.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT Initially under the guidance of the project principal, I transitioned to being the project manager independently early in the design phase, handling client interactions and running day to day responsibilities and project planning. I coordinated the consultant team from the beginning, which included structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers.
RENDERING & VISUALIZATION Also responsible for design visualization, I prepared images for the client’s review, as well as marketing material for use during the bank’s renovation.
CONSTRUCTION ADMINISTRATION Throughout construction administration, I regularly performed site reviews, interacted with the contractor, and coordinated the project team. This included day-to-day site and office tasks such as issuing supplemental instructions, managing change orders, and preparing certificates for payment.

RESILIENT AND EVOLVING COMMUNITIES. Move // Me is a modular building framework that creates a mobile environment where people and their skills are the resource, and buildings are the container and transit. Within an established framework, modules including housing, commercial, research, training, and collaboration units, among others - are transported to connect best within a Hub of matching programs.

DEMATERIALIZATION
This project pursues an architecture of more void than solid, by designing more light than matter.
Units of space provide distinct, articulated components that dissolve into a coherent whole.
Dematerialization foregrounds the space itself, disclosing only what’s necessary to imply depth, boundaries and thresholds.

THEORY, CONTEXT & NARRATIVE A new architectural species has been injected into Manhattan. Short-lived and continuously evolving, these assemblies take form as light interventions throughout the city that speak to one another, and modify habitual expectations of urban individuals. Each intervention is temporary, and with the passing of each species - or built spatial sequence - a new one rises from its ashes, taking on a new form and new ambitions, and relocating to a new context within the city.

INTRODUCTION TO ARCHITECTURE Students were introduced to architectural design through technical drawings, model-making, photography, as well as some digital techniques. My role included leading studio classes, designing and running workshops, deskcrits, and mentorship throughout the duration of the program.
DRAWING AS A DESIGN TOOL Students learned to use their drawings and models to develop their design concepts as well as develop their craft. Each student is an individual with unique needs, and the small studio size allowed us as instructors to provide the right attention and guidance to help them grow.
