JOINT BASE ANACOSTIA-BOLLING (JBAB)

Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (JBAB) is comprised of the former Naval Support Facility Anacostia, the former Bolling Air Force Base and the Bellevue Housing Area. The properties merged in October 2010 as a result of the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC), 2005.

ceremonial support, among other missions performed by the nearly 50 military and federal agencies on the installation. Its service to the country, active-duty, reserve, retired and visiting military, as well as personnel deployed around the world, is an important one.

It is a 1018 acre military installation, located in Southeast D.C., situated between the Potomac and Anacostia rivers and Interstate 295, in the Anacostia and Congress Heights areas.

Many of JBAB's over 16,000 military and civilian personnel, also contribute countless hours performing community service and helping enrich the lives of adults and children in the surrounding neighborhoods, communities and schools during their time away from work.

GETTING STARTED Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling welcomes you to the nation’s capital!

Getting Here Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, located along the Potomac River adjacent to I-295, is accessible from I-95, I-395 and I-495, and is within the Washington, D.C., city limits. If you plan to drive, you might consider arriving during non-rush hours; between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. weekdays.

If your plans include air travel, there are three airports serving the Washington area — Reagan National (DCA), Dulles International (IAD) and Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall (BWI). Reagan National Airport is in Northern Virginia just across the Potomac River from JBAB and about 15 minutes from the base during non-rush hours. Dulles, also in Northern Virginia, is farther away and during non-rush hours is about a 50-minute drive. BWI, is located north of the base in Maryland, and is about a 40-minute drive during non-rush hours. If you have the option, flying into Reagan National is the most convenient.

Reporting Procedures All newly reporting personnel should report to their command first. Once you check into your command and they endorse your orders, Navy personnel will then report to PSD, located in Enterprise Hall, and Air Force personnel will report to MPF, located in Bldg. 16.

Base Access Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling has three entrances: the Firth Sterling gate, Arnold (main) gate and the South gate. The South gate, also known as the “visitor’s gate,” is the only location where visitors without ID cards may access the base. Personnel assigned to the Pentagon should try to arrive during non-rush hours. The Pentagon is located in Virginia adjacent to I-395 and just across the Potomac River from downtown D.C. It is easily accessible by both Metrobus and Metrorail (subway). In fact, Metrorail has an underground stop at the Pentagon on the Blue and Yellow lines.

On-base Housing Once assigned to Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling or the Pentagon, members who have applied for military family housing will be provided by JBAB’s housing office staff. Members may also apply for housing upon arrival and privatized housing options.

Central check-in for all permanent-party residents. Front desk operates 24 hours a day. Building 417, located on Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Furnari Hall, is a 250-room facility, designed to house the Navy’s Ceremonial Guard. The building is utilized to support other personnel from Naval Support Activity Washington and other commands.

Enterprise Hall Building Manager: (202) 433-0960 Located at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, building 72, Enterprise Hall, is an 86-room facility. There are two lounges with cable TV and a full kitchen that all residents share on the second deck.

Blanchard Barracks Building Manager: (202) 767-8636 Desk operates from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Located on Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, this is a Navy/Air Forceowned facility, which provides 188 rooms for single military personnel, E-4 and below. This is a Navy 1+1 facility with shared, full kitchens and baths.

Bellevue Housing Bellevue Housing is located at the site of the Naval Research Laboratory, off South Capitol Street in Southwest Washington, D.C. Built in 1996 for enlisted personnel only, there are 66 twobedroom, two-level townhouses, measuring approximately 1,025 square feet; and four two-bedroom single level handicap adaptable units measuring approximately 950 square feet. All two-bedroom units have one and one-half baths.

There are 112 three-bedroom, two-level townhouses, measuring approximately 1,188 square feet, and six three-bedroom single level handicap adaptable units, measuring approximately 1,205 square feet. All three-bedroom townhouse units have two and one-half baths. The single level units have two full baths.

All units come with a large one-car garage attached. Other amenities include wall-to-wall carpeting, eat-in kitchen with skylight, frost-free refrigerator, gas range, dishwasher, garbage disposal and spacious laundry room with hook-ups for washer and dryer.

The community is equipped with one tennis court and one basketball court, a jogging trail, baseball field exclusively for Bellevue residents, lots of playground and picnic areas, and a large community center with a meeting room for parties and town hall meetings.

School buses will take children to Washington, D.C., public schools and some private schools. The pet policy allows two pets, no weight limit.

The nearest full-service military installation is Joint Base AnacostiaBolling, located adjacent to Bellevue.

The Landings at Bolling Family Housing The Landings offers 700+ enlisted and officer family housing to all Service Members assigned to the base with accompanying family members and other legal dependents (stepchildren, siblings, and parents) and are eligible to apply for on-base family housing. All other applicants are considered Other Eligible Tenants or Waterfall Tenants. Other Eligible Tenant eligibility will be determined by the criteria set forth in the Unit Occupancy Plan. In order to obtain a position on the wait list, all potential tenants must submit a copy of his/her most recent LES, official orders to the National Capital Region, Sex Offender Form, and any applicable Power of Attorney in addition to his/her housing application. Once housing eligibility has been approved, and the bedroom size and rank requirements have been established, the service member is then added to the appropriate wait list.

Off-base Housing Living in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area can be an exciting adventure, however, be prepared for a high rents. A security deposit equal to one month’s rent is often required in advance, along with the first month’s rent. People can also expect a credit check fee when applying to move into an apartment.

Prior to signing a rental agreement, it is crucial that military members ensure that they have a clause in their leases protecting them if they are forced to break their leases early due to permanent change of station, deployment or a temporary duty assignment.

Housing or the legal office can provide people with a copy of an Early Termination of Rental Agreement for use as an addendum to their leases. In addition, the legal office can provide assistance if people have any concerns regarding a lease before they sign it.

Deposits may be required when contracting for telephone, gas, electricity and cable television services.

Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling established a “Rental Partnership” program, which is designed to combat the high cost of living in the D.C. metropolitan area. This program waives security deposits, application fees, credit checks and income requirements.

Additionally, there is a 5-percent discount off the original rent at most apartment complexes. To qualify, you must be a military member assigned to the area and be willing to set up an allotment to pay your rent. For a “Rental Partnership” list of apartments and an application, stop by the JBAB Housing Office upon your arrival.

Temporary Lodging At present, the Bolling Inn has 287 guest rooms including 100 temporary lodging units. TLF units come equipped with a full kitchen, dining area, one or two bedrooms and a sleeper sofa.

The units are primarily used for those in permanent-change-ofstation status traveling with dependents. These units are usually full during the peak moving season, May through September, so members are encouraged to make reservations at least 30 days in advance. Military members and their families will be lodged in either Cheshire Hall or TLF until they secure permanent housing either on or off base. Commercial pet boarding facilities are available in the local area and the lodging office can provide a listing. To make a lodging reservation, members should call 202404-7050, DSN 754-7050.

Until Your Things Arrive If you need to set up house while you're waiting for your personal items to arrive, family services has a variety of items and information that may help you. Located with the Military and Family Support Center on Brookley Avenue, family services has everything you may need to borrow: kitchen dish packs, irons, ironing boards, futon mattresses, card tables and chairs, playpens, small lamps, linens, toasters, coffee pots and clock radios. Volunteers assist arriving and departing members of the community in coordination with the relocation assistance program.

First Term Airmen Center The FTAC was established to transition first term Airmen from basic training and technical school training to a mission-oriented environment with a solid foundation of base training programs and briefings. The FTAC creates an environment for Airmen to develop a warrior spirit, expeditionary mindset, and indoctrination to the National Capital Region and Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling way of life through self-discipline, teamwork, and core values.

Household Goods Before you get a permanent home, check the status of your household goods shipment by contacting the Joint Personal Property Shipping Office at Fort Belvoir, Va. The JPPSO needs to know your plans as soon as possible to better serve you and your family. You should arrange delivery as early as possible to help cut down on costly in-transient storage, potential damage due to extra handling, and delivery delays. Normally three- to five-days’ notice is required for delivery; however, during peak moving periods, especially May through September, it may take up to 10 days or more.

Personnel who do not have a place to move immediately upon arrival are authorized temporary storage at government expense for up to 90 days. An additional 90 days may be requested

through the JPPSO. For those who have completed a doit-yourself move, paperwork can be hand-carried to the Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling Traffic Management Office for certification.

For your convenience, if you are assigned to the Pentagon, the Pentagon TMO can also certify your DITY move.

For more information concerning household goods and storage, visit JBAB's TMO office in bldg 520, located on Brookley Ave. Financial Services The Financial Service Office employs more than 40 personnel and is responsible for providing world-class financial service such as military pay, civilian pay, retired pay and travel pay to personnel in the National Capital Region. In addition, the unit delivers financial analysis, budget and accounting support to units and tenants located on JBAB. Important pay and travel information is provided to newly arrived personnel during centralized inprocessing briefings at the Military and Family Services Center.

The Air Force financial services office is located on the second floor of building P-20 on Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling and provides walk-in customer service. Navy personnel requiring financial services should contact the PSD office.

79th Medical Group’s Malcolm Grow Medical Center at Joint Base Andrews-NAF Washington, Fort McNair’s Health Clinic in Washington, D.C., Andrew Rader Health Clinic at Joint Base Ft. Myer-Henderson Hall, and the medical facility at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Va. A TRICARE Service Center is also located in Building 1300. Staff members there can answer questions regarding enrollment and eligibility.

Tobacco-free Policy

Dental Services

Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling has been a tobacco-free installation for years. Tobacco use may only occur on base in designated areas.

The 579th Dental Squadron, located on the second floor of building 1300, provides comprehensive dental care for active duty personnel assigned to JBAB and the Washington area.

Medical Services

Dental sick call for urgent or acute care is made by appointment.

On holidays and after-duty hours, emergency care is available through the 79th Medical Wing at Joint Base Andrews-NAF Washington.

The 579th Medical Group provides premier medical and dental care for enrolled beneficiaries in the National Capital Region. The JBAB Clinic is located on the first floor of building 1300 and has a staff of providers specializing in family medicine and flight medicine. Services include well-baby appointments, pediatrics, women’s health, optometry, family advocacy, substance abuse control programs, force health protection, immunizations, health promotions, public health, laboratory, radiology and pharmacy.

Other military medical facilities in the area include Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., the Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Md., the DeWitt Army Hospital at Fort Belvoir, Va., the

Dental care for all non-active duty beneficiaries is extremely limited; therefore, all non-active duty patients should select a civilian dentist to provide ongoing dental care. Active-duty family members may participate in the TRICARE active duty family member dental plan, which now provides expanded benefits for comprehensive and specialty care by participating civilian dentists.

JOINT BASE ANACOSTIA “OUR NATION’S PREMIER JOINT BASE” JOINT BASE SPECIAL STAFF Command Section The command section provides a wide variety of functions to personnel assigned to JBAB. Those services include equal opportunity, public affairs, protocol, safety and chaplaincy.

Equal Opportunity The Equal Opportunity office is located in Building 4 on the second floor. Its two primary functions are military equal opportunity and civilian equal employment opportunity. The DOD has a “zero” tolerance policy regarding discrimination.

The EO office processes equal opportunity complaints, educates members on DOD policies regarding discrimination and human relations and acts as a referral agency to make sure problems are resolved by the appropriate agency and at the lowest level.

Public Affairs Office Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling Public Affairs is the central point of contact for all communications-related activities within and outside the base to include media and community relations and security and policy review. The JBAB Public Affairs Office, located in P-20, Suite 219, is also home for the base’s Multimedia Center, providing complete photo and graphics support. Additionally, the public affairs staff maintains the base’s primary news source, and public Web sites. For more information, call the Public Affairs office at (202) 767-4781.

Protocol The chief of protocol provides protocol and ceremonial support for the JBAB. This includes itineraries for distinguished visitors, hospitality assistance for office calls, seating and parking for conferences and special events. Ceremonial support for the base includes changes of command, retirements and promotions, annual awards banquet, monthly promotion and quarterly awards

ceremonies, commander’s calls and monthly observances. Advice and guidance provided by protocol includes script reviews, programs and seating plans, RSVPs, flags, invitations, entry authorization lists and parking.

Safety Office The Safety office manages the Commander’s Mishap Prevention Program for the National Capital Region. Program elements include, but not limited to: advising the commander, functional managers, and supervisors on safety and health matters; managing on- and off-duty safety programs; providing mishap prevention data and safety education material to all organizations; processing hazard reports and managing the installation master hazard abatement program; reviewing civilian compensation claims involving occupational injuries and hospital treatment records to ensure mishaps were properly investigated and reported in accordance with applicable OSHA and DOD directives; conducting safety education programs; providing supervisors assistance with job safety training; ensuring all mishaps are investigated properly and reported according to AFI 91-204; establishing a proactive mishap prevention program that incorporates reasonable risk management and hazard elimination and reduction features.

Chaplaincy The chapel provides pastoral care to the units, base tenants, the Pentagon, and the National Capital Region through unit visitation, counseling, worship services and religious education.

The chapel staff is comprised of chaplains, chaplain assistants, civilian personnel and volunteers working together to provide a host of support services for families and singles. Chaplains also provide invocations and benedictions, officiate at weddings, and perform funerals throughout the region.

MISSION AND TENANT UNITS Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling is populated by a very committed, patriotic workforce that assumes responsibility for varied missions with the utmost dedication to duty.

THE 11TH OPERATIONS GROUP The Air Force’s 11th Operations Group, a mission unit at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, is part of the historic 11th Wing. The 11th OG supervises the operations and scheduling of the Air Force’s premier ceremonial, musical, and chaplain units.

The United States Air Force Band The United States Air Force Band is the premier musical organization of the U.S. Air Force. Stationed on Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling at historic Hangar II, The USAF Band’s official military life began Sept. 24, 1941, with the formation of the Bolling Army Air Forces Band.

Through numerous international concert tours with performances in more than 50 countries and 42 world capitals, the Band has come to be known as “America’s International Musical Ambassadors.” Also, the Band entertains troops deployed overseas and presents concerts from coast to coast through local performances and national concert tours.

The USAF Band’s ensembles include the Air Force Strings, Airmen of Note, Ceremonial Brass, Concert Band, Max Impact and Singing Sergeants. Collectively, these groups present more than 2,000 live performances annually.

• The highly acclaimed Guest Artist Series is held on Sunday afternoons in February and March at the 3,700-seat Daughters of the American Revolution Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. • The Band’s popular Summer Concert Series is held regularly during June, July and August at the Air Force Memorial and at other locations in the National Capital Region. The Jazz Heritage Series, presented each fall, features the Airmen of Note in concert with the world’s foremost jazz artists.

• Annual Holiday Concerts are presented the first weekend each December.

In addition to regular programs in the National Capital Region, the USAF Band can be heard in performances at area high schools, colleges, universities and concert halls. All performances are free and open to the public. Chaplaincy at Arlington National Cemetery Paying final respects to departed heroes, Air Force chaplains and chaplain assistants provide spiritual care and guidance to families as they commemorate their departed family members. They help provide the “final tribute on behalf of a grateful nation” in over 1,000 chapel and graveside funeral services annually at the nation’s premier military shrine.

The United States Air Force Honor Guard The United States Air Force Honor Guard is home to more than 200 men and women directly responsible for providing final military funeral honors at Arlington National Cemetery. “Sharp, crisp, and motionless,” the members of the Honor Guard are also called upon to train other Air Force honor guards, and to support State Funeral plans any where they may occur. Members of the Air Force Honor Guard represent the Air Force in a variety of military and civilian ceremonies conducted throughout Washington, D.C., including events at the White House, Pentagon, Arlington National Cemetery and the Tomb of the Unknowns.

The Honor Guard also operates the Air Force's only precision drill team, which is dedicated to inspiring Air Force awareness among military and civilian audiences. Through its complex drill routines, the drill team attempts to personify the integrity, discipline, teamwork, and professionalism of every military mission.

579th Medical Group The 579th Medical Group has a proud history and enjoys a reputation of being an indisputable leader in quality medical and dental care. The group provides health care services supporting JBAB, Headquarters Air Force, the Defense Intelligence Agency, Headquarters Air Force District of Washington, three wings and 233 geographically separated units in 126 countries.

The group delivers medical and dental care to 20,000 tri-service beneficiaries assigned to the National Capital Region, including SECDEF, SECAF and CSAF. The group also directs an Advanced Education General Dentistry Residency Program, and plans, trains and deploys to support worldwide contingencies.

The 579th Medical group consists of three squadrons: 579th Medical Operations Squadron The 579th Medical Operations Squadron supports the health and readiness of Airmen and Sailors and their families on Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling and across the National Capital Region.

Operating out of a number of locations across JBAB and at the Pentagon, the squadron offers a broad range of clinical and health promotion services, including family health, pediatrics, flight medicine, mental health, family advocacy, substance abuse, drug testing, optometry, public health, force health,

bioenvironmental engineering, health and wellness, immunizations. Committed to the highest quality standards, MDOS serves as a proud member of the Air Force District of Washington, 79th Medical Wing and Joint Base AnacostiaBolling communities.

579th Medical Support Squadron The 579th Medical Support Squadron supports Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling along with the eligible beneficiary population, Air Force District of Washington, the Department of Defense, and our nation's security by providing health support for the full range of military deployments and sustaining the health of members of the armed forces, their families, and others to advance our national security interests. The 579th Medical Support Squadron provides the highest standard of direct medical care and medical administrative services to JBAB units.

These areas of expertise include pharmacy services, diagnostic imaging and clinical laboratory support. Superior logistical and administrative support is also provided through information system management, facility management, medical equipment and supply processing, orderly room, resource management, patient administration, TRICARE services, medical readiness and referral management.

579th Dental Squadron The 579th Dental Squadron provides comprehensive dental care for active duty personnel assigned to Joint Base AnacostiaBollling and the Washington metropolitan area, including restorative and preventive dentistry, endodontics (root canal therapy), periodontics, prosthodontics (tooth replacement), orthodontics, pediatric dentistry and oral surgery. The dental squadron is one of 13 in the Air Force that has an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency program, and is one of the largest Air Force implant centers on the East Coast.

744th Communications Squadron The 744th Communications Squadron provides network operations for Joint Base Andrews-NAF Washington and Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, to include a help desk, network management, small computer support, and information protection. The squadron also provides administrative communications and customer training, technical and systems support for communications and computer systems including ground radio (land mobile radio, cellular phones and frequency management), telephone and client computer systems.

Air Force Office of Special Investigations, 7FIS-OLA The Air Force Office of Special Investigations, 7FIS-OLA is a field operating agency under the 7th Field Investigations Squadron Washington Field Office at Joint Base Andrews-NAF Washington.

The 7FIS-OLA is responsible for providing independent, professional, criminal, fraud and counterintelligence investigative

services to the Air Force and specified Defense Department elements within the National Capital Region.

The 7FIS-OLA consists of special agents who work to uncover facts surrounding felony crimes including robbery, sexual assault, homicide, narcotics and fraud. 7FIS-OLA focuses on identifying, investigating and neutralizing espionage and terrorist activities that threaten Air Force and Defense Department resources.

Defense Intelligence Agency The Defense Intelligence Agency is a Department of Defense combat support agency and an important member of the United States Intelligence Community. With more than 16,500 military and civilian employees worldwide, DIA is a major producer and manager of foreign military intelligence. They provide military intelligence to warfighters, defense policymakers and force planners, in the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community, in support of U.S. military planning and operations and weapon systems acquisition.

Air Force Departmental Publishing Office Located in Bldg. 94, AFDPO is the publishing manager for the Air Force secretariat and Air Force staff. AFDPO provides publishing products and services for administrative publications and forms to customers worldwide. AFDPO assists the office of primary responsibility with formatting and coordination requirements for publications and designing headquarters forms.

AFDPO also manages the Air Force Publishing Distribution Center (AFPDC), located in Essex, Md., which is the central repository for storage and distribution of physical products used worldwide. It manages the centralized electronic repository for storage and dissemination of digitized publications and forms from departmental down to base level. And, it manages the central tagging operation that prepares all publications from headquarters to wing level for digital dissemination.

AFDPO is responsible for providing and maintaining the official software used for designing and filling out “standard” Air Force forms and assisting functional communities in developing interactive applications with more intelligent forms.

U.S. Coast Guard Coast Guard Station Washington is located at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling’s Capital Cove Marina. It’s an operational unit responsible for ensuring the maritime safety and security of the National Capital Region.

CAP activities and Air Force support missions in the Washington, D.C., metro area. The wing currently has six subordinate squadrons, including the Challenger 1 Cadet Squadron - the sister squadron to the Air Force Honor Guard.

Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, is a nonprofit organization with 56,000 members nationwide. CAP performs 90 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and was credited by the Air Force with saving 91 lives in fiscal year 2008. Its volunteers also perform homeland security, disaster relief and counter-drug missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps – Henry E. Mooberry Division Established by an act of Congress in 1958, the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps (NSCC) has helped young people experience military life without having any obligation to join the military.

The Henry E. Mooberry Division of the NSCC was established on the same day as the NSCC itself.

With its leadership training center at the historic Washington Navy Yard and much of its training and activity at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, the Mooberry Division provides males and females ages 10 to 18, “The Adventure of a Lifetime.”

The Mooberry Division is one of the largest NSCC units in the country and regarded as one of the very best. Since 1962, nearly 7,000 youth have benefitted from the unit’s program of leadership development. Many have gone on to enter the military at an advanced pay grade, entered a military academy, or attended college with a scholarship, rising to the very top of the military and business communities.

Navy Ceremonial Guard Established in 1931, The Navy Ceremonial Guard Is the Official Honor Guard of the United States Navy, With the Primary Mission of Representing the Navy in Presidential, Joint Armed Services, Navy And Public Ceremonies In The Nation’s Capital, Across The Country And Around The World.

The Ceremonial Guard is comprised of approximately 200 junior Navy enlisted men and women. Guardsmen are hand selected from the Navy’s Great Lakes Recruiting Command based on stringent physical and ethical standards. Only the tallest (a minimum 6'0" for men and 5'10" for females), fittest and most motivated seamen recruits are picked to serve alongside the Navy’s finest junior sailors.

Upon reporting to the command, guard recruits embark on an intensive 10 week training program, which is designed to test their resolve, commitment, and endurance. Guardsmen are trained to maintain stoic, motionless military tightness for extended periods of time, so that they will be prepared to hold their bearing through the entirety of the longest of Military Ceremonies. Only

the strongest willed sailors persevere. They are trained in the areas of rifle drill manual and marching as well as the daily labor of maintaining the rigorous physical and uniform standards demanded of Ceremonial Guardsmen. Guardsmen and trainees alike spend hours every day pressing their uniforms and shining their shoes and belt brass. Meticulous inspections are performed prior to every ceremony. Once recruits graduate training and become Ceremonial Guardsmen, they are required to join one of the Guard’s specialized platoons, including the Ceremonial Drill Team, Color Guard, Firing Party, and Casket Bearer Platoons.

Guardsmen perform in a myriad of high visibility Navy and Joint Service Ceremonies. Navy elements have marched in Presidential Inauguration Parades, State Funeral Processions, and numerous annual celebrations. Full Honors Presidential Arrivals at the White House, Navy and Joint Service Wreath Laying Ceremonies at the Navy Memorial and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and Chief of Naval Operations Arrivals at the Washington Navy Yard are among the many events that the Ceremonial Guard executes routinely with unparalleled military bearing and accuracy. The Guard’s most somber duty is the delivering of funeral honors at every Navy funeral service conducted in Arlington National Cemetery. This honor is performed by the Guard’s casket bearers, firing party and marching elements on a daily basis and over twenty times every week.

Services’ Dining Options Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling offers a variety of on-base dining options, depending on tastes and the time of day. The Bolling Club, Potomac Lanes Bowling Center Snack Bar, Pettini’s Family Restaurant, Furnari Hall and the Slip Inn (adjacent to the base marina) offer a delicious variety for just about anyone’s appetite.

Furnari restaurant is open 7 days a week and is available to active duty, retirees, reservists, DoD civilians, contractors and family members with base access. Breakfast is served from 6:00 to 9:30 a.m., lunch from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and dinner

Child Development Center Three Child Development Centers on Joint Base AnacostiaBolling provide full-time care for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years. Chapel Services The chapel center is the hub of base-level chaplain service activities, such as care counseling, unit visitation, worship, religious education and specialized ministries. The chapel holds Catholic services, including weekday and weekend masses, rite of reconciliation and religious education, and Protestant services including liturgical worship, traditional worship, gospel and contemporary praise services. Protestant religious education includes Sunday school, children’s church, Bible studies and special events. Also, each of the worship services provides opportunities to participate in a music ministry.

School Bus Transportation Program There are literally thousands of public and private schools within the commuting radius of Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling. Many children residing on base and in the housing community attend a variety of public, private and charter schools in the local area.

An informational guidebook and other associated literature on schools can be obtained through the community programs office; however, the office has specific information for only those schools that are in the base school bus transportation program.

Parents planning to live on base are highly encouraged to request that their sponsors provide this information in their welcome package. Requests for packages also may be made by calling the office on 202-767-4003.

Education Services Centers – Centers for Adult and Continuing Education The Education Services Centers are located in building 11 on Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling. They provide members of Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling and their families opportunities to achieve their individual educational goals. Both service centers provide

educational and vocational counseling and other support services which may also be accessed from the Air Force Virtual Education Center Bolling and through the outreach education programs.

Counselors and specialists are available to assist with commissioning programs and degree planning.

Education Centers are the contact point for distance learning for Air Force Institute of Technology courses and professional military education courses such as Squadron Officer School, Air Command & Staff College, Air War College and Senior Noncommissioned Officer Academy. DL versions include correspondence, internet, CD, video and seminar. Testing services are available on a regular basis at both centers and include The Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Services, certification exams, PME end-of-course exams and proctoring for college distance learning exams. Learning Labs are available to help members sharpen their knowledge and build their skills in many areas to prepare them for college courses or DANTES exams. Military personnel may access their own personal education record through the AFVEC to review goals, degree status and must apply for tuition assistance from their personal AFVEC account. Tuition assistance is provided for more than 350 institutions worldwide. Information on Veterans Administration education benefits and federal grants or loans is available through AFVEC or may be reviewed with a counselor in one of the education centers.

Webster University, University of Maryland-University College and Central Texas College administrative offices are co-located in the Bolling Center. These colleges and universities offer classes at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling Monday through Saturday as well as a full schedule of DL courses/programs. Representatives of Old Dominion University, Stratford University, and Strayer University hold monthly office hours. Commanders are encouraged to use these resources to bring all educational services into their organizations.

Military and Family Support Center The Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling Military and Family Support Center (MFSC) is located in building 13, 202-767-0450, on Brookley Avenue and Building 72, 202-433-6151, located in Enterprise Hall. Members who are relocating to Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling can access the Military HomeFront database online at www.militaryinstallations.dod.mil for information about the base and surrounding communities as well as education, housing and employment issues.

tour of duty in the National Capital Region. Relocation assistance, spouse employment, volunteer opportunities and information and referral services are especially helpful to new arrivals. Family Services, located at the MFSC, has a loan locker available for families moving into or out of the area.

The MFSC plays a vital role in the military family life cycle, helping both base leadership and military families support the Air Force and Navy missions and enhance the quality of joint base Marine Corp, Coast Guard, Army, Air Force and Navy lives.

Banking Services There are two financial institution offices located on Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling. Pentagon Federal Credit Union is located between the Base Exchange and the Base Youth Center. The credit union offers share-draft accounts, individual retirement accounts, loans and other financial services. Bank of America operates inside the commissary and also provides full banking services. There are eight automatic teller machines on JBAB. The ATMs are located at Pentagon Federal Credit Union, outside the BX, inside the BX, outside the commissary, inside the commissary, in the base shoppette and in the lobby of building 5681, which has entrances on Castle and Luke. Commissary Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling boasts one of the Defense Commissary Agency’s most modern facilities, offering a complete selection of meat, dairy products, produce, frozen foods, fresh seafood, deli and fresh bakery items. The award-winning commissary also includes hot foods and in-store banking. Bank of America, located inside the commissary, is open Monday through Saturday. There are five frame lifts, two drive on lube racks, two body stalls and a paint booth, an engine analyzer, resale store, engine work room, high-speed wheel balancer, tool-issue area and four coinoperated car-wash stalls with foaming brushes. Those who prefer may have auto repairs done by the skilled mechanics on site. The shop is also home to the scrub shop, a professional and personalized automobile detailing service.

The base library has more than 27,000 books, books-on-tape, videos, DVDs, magazines and periodicals. Library computers provide access to numerous periodicals, newspapers, business and social-issue databases, electronic books and practice college tests. Internet connectivity is also available at the library. Other equipment available includes photocopiers and a faxing service.

The city grew and became an important ship building center where merchants prospered and the city’s port flourished. The city was separated from Baltimore County and given status equal to that of the counties in 1851. Baltimore was the third largest city in the nation by 1860 and today is the 18th largest. Neighborhoods in Baltimore include Federal Hill, Fells Point, Little Italy and Mount Vernon Place. The popular neighborhood of Federal Hill was named for a huge celebration the residents held in honor of the ratification of the federal Constitution. The cannon on the hill overlooking the Inner Harbor is a reminder of the Civil War, when federal troops seized the railroads and occupied Baltimore and Annapolis to keep Maryland in the Union and to prevent Washington, D.C., from being surrounded by Confederate states. Among Baltimore’s literary landmarks is a house lived in by Edgar Allan Poe, who died in Baltimore in 1849. He is buried in Westminster Cemetery, where Baltimore teachers and schoolchildren erected a monument to him with money collected in 1875.

Maj. Pierre L’Enfant designed Washington D.C. in 1791. It was the first American city planned for a specific purpose. L’Enfant laid out the city around numerous circles and squares connected by straight boulevards. The layout has often been described as reminiscent of a series of wagon wheels. This design, often described as brilliant, allowed for growth; however L’Enfant could not have foreseen the advent of automobiles in a nation of more than 230 million people. The Fort Meade Museum was established in 1963 as the First U.S. Army Museum. Its purpose was to honor the service and sacrifices of the American Soldier. Established in 1845, the academy displays parades, concerts and other various events every year during “Commissioning Week,” finishing off with midshipmen graduation in late May. The Naval Academy Museum features 300 years of American Naval history. There are four exhibition galleries totaling 12,000 square feet. In addition to the galleries, museum objects are also exhibited in the Chapel crypt, Memorial Hall, the Yard, and most of the academic buildings. Open Monday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Closed Thanksgiving, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. Free.

Access to the Academy grounds is limited.

All visitors over the age of 16 must have a valid picture ID. The center is open daily. Guided walking tours of the grounds are offered through the visitor center.
