The educational experience of a K-8 school has been shown to be one of the healthiest and most productive for all children, and the ACDS community exemplifies all the elements of the best K-8 schools: a well-rounded education, small classes, engaged and experienced teachers, an academically-challenging curriculum, a competitive inclusive athletics program, and a supportive parent community. With the confidence and self-esteem a K-8 school provides, it is no surprise that children who graduate from ACDS are accepted into the high schools of their choice and excel in the most competitive high schools in the area including Gonzaga, T.C Williams, the Potomac School, Madeira, St. Stephens & St. Agnes, the Field School, Episcopal High School, and Sidwell Friends just to name a few. Alexandria Country Day School has grown each year since it was founded in 1983. In September of 2010 we celebrated the addition of 14,000 square feet of space, including a new regulation-sized gymnasium, a dining hall, and a dedicated performing arts center. These facilities complete the campus and enhance the academic and athletic programs. We are a close-knit community that values and nurtures the relationship among teachers, parents, and students. Each year, we review and improve our curriculum and we are accredited by the Virginia Association of Independent Schools. Our vision for each academic year is clear: we want to bring out the best in each student—academically and socially, as scholars, athletes, artists, writers, scientists, and honorable citizens.
