Alternative Methods for Undertaking Qualitative Research
This book ‘Alternative Methods for Undertaking Qualitative Research’ is well due in the English Language Teaching profession. It takes as a focus the struggles to develop a range of approaches for use in data collection and analysis that all students in the Applied linguistics and Social Sciences areas of research are bound to encounter. Each article provides a specific focus and explains a particular type of approach. Each account of the use of their methodologies brings the issues to life and provides a detailed account of the benefits and potential drawbacks and problems to be thought about and overcome with the use of the particular approach in question. It is clear there is no perfect approach and this book is a valuable contribution to knowledge and a guide for all students operating in the developing qualitative paradigm. As such it acts as a welcome alternative to the more standardized quantitative approaches that have held away in research in these disciplines for so long. It shows that new knowledge and understandings can be robustly and validly generated from a precise and well-thought through implementation of alternative methods.
