Eagles Win Davenport Football Sponsored 7-‐on-‐7 Tournament August and the 2016 season quickly approaches, the Eagle Football squad has been in heavy preparation. Part of that preparation comes in the form of competing in summer 7-on-7 passing tournaments in an effort to prepare skill players for competition on the field. Two weeks ago the Eagles successfully competed against local teams such as East Kentwood, Mona Shores and others to win the Davenport University 7-on-7 tournament. The Victory marks a small step towards getting the team ready for competing in the their new conference (OK-Gold) this fall.
Eagles in College Football Pictorial Profile: Drake Harris, Michigan Wide Receiver
Team Preview: Eagles look to re-‐boot for 2016 It’s been 5 years since Kavon Frazier scored the winning touchdown in double OT to beat East Grand Rapids for the first time in school history. Frazier became a 6th round NFL draft pick this past spring for the Dallas Cowboys. In the time since that dramatic TD, other notable Eagles such as Tommy Doles (Northwestern University) and Drake Harris (University of Michigan) have moved on to play football at the collegiate level, with a host of other former Eagles moving on to pursue higher education. Many have since graduated college to enter “adult life”. And don’t forget about the 2012 State Championship Title. After an average 5-5 season in 2015, Head Coach Don Fellows decided to “re-boot” the Eagle program. Not a rebuild----starting over----but a re-boot. A program jump-start. Back are the black helmets; back is the JV team coached by Varsity coaches; created is an added emphasis on the 7th and 8th grade football teams as the “developmental program” for our high school program as well as better emphasis on our youth football program to develop a more cohesive football program across the board.

And thanks to the generosity of those in the Grand Rapids Christian community who made significant contributions, brand new turf was laid down in Eagle Stadium this summer.
Fast Facts
This Fall Grand Rapids Christian will put all three levels---Freshmen, JV and Varsity---on the field to compete in their new conference, the OK-Gold. The successes of the past have formed a great foundation for the re-boot. Not a rebuild or a start-over, but a jump-start.
The Eagles will travel out of state to play for the second time since 2012…..traditional rival South Christian is now a conference rival….the Eagles will wear black helmets for the first time since the 2012 season
The Eagles aren’t “back” because they haven’t gone anywhere. They’ve refocused and re-booted---and here they come!
Key Games to watch The Eagles visit East Grand Rapids and return home to play Forest Hills Eastern in back-‐to-‐back weeks.
Eagles re-‐brand 7th and 8th Grade Program to create developmental football program
Coach Don Fellows and Grand Rapids Christian has taken a step towards building for the future by creating the "GR Christian 78ers Youth Football Initiative". This re-branding of our 7th and 8th grade program is a way to create a developmental system for players coming into Christian High School to play football and makes a stronger connection between our high school and middle school programs. The goal is not only to outfit our 7th and 8th grade football players with helmets and uniforms, but also to bring these programs under the guidance of the high school football program in the form of X's and O's, competitiveness, and Christian fellowship.
