We like our zoo, especially the 11‘000 sqm Masoala Rainforest. Each Saturday at 11am, there are free guided tours across those parts of the rainforest that are not usually accessible to the public. Definitively schedule enough time to explore the zoo. The best time for a visit is on weekdays or early in the morning – at other times, hordes of children run wild. It’s worth bringing your own picnic or packed lunch since food is expensive. The Zoo Zurich is also a good option when the weather is bad because many of the animals live indoors. Bags made from truck tarpaulin may seem like nothing too innovative but this type of bag was actually first dreamt up in Switzerland. You can enjoy Zurich’s nightlife the whole week long. However, trains and trams usually only run until 1 am. After that, you’ll have to fork out for a taxi. On Friday and Saturday nights, there are special night services (only trains and buses, no trams though). After 1 am, you must spend CHF 5 on a night supplement (in addition to your regular ticket).
