India Brief: Lino Printing 1

Page 1

Lino Printing Here is a selection of my lino prints inspired by my time in India. Particularly focussing on the aesthetic of henna and India nature. I incorporated flowers into the design as well as snakes, which I saw in the wild first hand, and peacocks which were everywhere in the surrounding art in southern India, such as the temples, and wall art. I created the design straight onto the lino, which was the cut offs that I got for free from around the print studio (I am going to buy a load more in order to make more designs for this project). I then used a variety of coloured inks to experiment with colour palettes and techniques such as fading to add to the lino. I also used a range of papers and colour but I plan to be a lot more experimental with my stock. For my next designs I want to incorporate materials into it and perhaps stitch on top or collage underneath. These prints really relit my love of lino printing and it is definitely something I plan to explore in this India project. I love combining colours and the intricate design in the lino. The technique of lino also helps me not to over complicate things as you have to use some negative space! However I did try out layering prints on top of each other which had an interesting look however obviously you would have to be careful not to overwhelm the whole image!
