Alice Dear_ Pushkin Press_ The Allure of Chanel For this response I wanted to encapsulate the serious, seductive and unpredictable nature of Coco Chanel. I researched a lot about her personality and discovered she rose through the French classes by educating herself through reading and saw the fashion industry as a way to make the garments she wanted to wear, stylish. She introduced women to a life beyond corsets which gave them a freedom that corresponded to the socio-political movement of women at the time. I chose this reference image as the way she is turned slightly towards the audience with a direct eye line really critiques the audience as I feel she would have in real life.
