Financial Independence Coaching, LLC Markeda Newby, Founder and CEO Markeda Newby is the 'every day finance' educator for lower to middle income families. She's the CEO of Financial Independence Coaching, a financial education company whose mission is to help people change their financial situation through education. As a native of one of the poorest areas of Chicago, Markeda knows what it's like to struggle to get by in life. After finding God, she became determined to change her life and get out of generational poverty. Her faith gave her the strength to graduate from high school, one of very few members of her family to do so. She was then able to go on to attend and graduate from college and receive a degree in education for which she has a burning passion. Following her faith, Markeda moved to Akron with her husband and mother in order to be closer to her church. After purchasing a home but knowing nothing of the process, Markeda became a loan officer with INET Mortgage.

During this job, she learned the ins and outs of mortgages and how many people in that industry were only after a quick buck and not out to help the consumer. She then transitioned into Primerica Financial Services where she could help educate people in a variety of financial areas and do what's right for them. Quickly rising through the ranks to a position as Regional Vice President, Markeda discovered that although that business was very helpful to people, the business model didn't allow her to spend much time teaching and educating her clients. She then teamed up with Steve Drexler, her business partner, and they founded Financial Independence Coaching in 2009. F.I. Coaching's mission is to help people change their financial situation through education. She is currently in the process of training financial coaches who will go out into the community to teach and educate the under-served with the attitude that “If They Knew Better, They Would Do Better.” “We are a passionate organization focused on empowering families with the financial tools that will allow them to thrive in today's complex world. We believe knowledge is powerful and the more you know the stronger you become.” she tells us. “With our staff of over 20 years of experience in the financial industry, we're focused on helping low to middle income families take back control of their financial situation through education.

CLEVELAND’S OWN INTERNATIONAL “FASHION…ISTA!” Tiara Chameleon Perry was born in California, raised in the Cleveland area, graduated from Shaker Heights High School, and received her B.A. in Fashion Marketing & Management at the Illinois Institute of Art-Chicago. While in college, Tiara went overseas for 5 months to study fashion in Italy. After graduation, Tiara lived briefly in Atlanta, GA, back in Cleveland, OH, and then moved to New York City. While there, she also worked in the Hamptons, NY. Her next assignment was in the country of Japan, and now she has been relocated to San Francisco, CA. Here’s her story:

Tiara always had her unique style of dressing and posing as a child. Being her mother, I noticed her desire to put together fashion creations from her own clothes. She began making fashion trends that her friends and schoolmates would follow. Fashion became her passion, and she has won over 20 trophies, many ribbons, and cash for her unique style of modeling and speaking. Before leaving Cleveland, she was crowned Waki Wear of Cleveland’s first “Top Model of the Year”. Once in New York, Tiara worked at Rugby Ralph Lauren and Michael Kors, which both sent her to work in the Hamptons, NY for two consecutive summers.

She was selected to represent these companies in this elite tourist town, because of her strong selling skills and keen fashion sense. That’s the early history of this young lady. However, what’s impressive now, is her current position as a Manager for Uniqlo, Japan’s leading clothing retail chain in sales and profits. The company operates in China, France, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Kingdom, and now, the United States.

Uniqlo designs, manufactures, and retails great casual wear for all. “I joined the company as an M.I.T. (Manager in Training)”, said Tiara. “The purpose of the program was to send potential manager candidates to Japan for training in the Global Flagship stores to learn about the UNIQLO culture (Japanese), exceptional customer service, and overall day to day operations.”

Tiara was flown to Japan for 6 months for the Manager Training program, and worked in the Shinjuku Nishi-Guchi Global Flagship in Tokyo, Japan. She was

there at the time of the earthquake. Wow! This was a time when she couldn’t be reached immediately, and a time of universal prayer for her, the co-workers, and all the Japanese inhabitants.

She sent this picture, when she couldn’t talk to family & friends:

After the earthquake and tsunami, her company re-located to Osaka, Japan’s second largest city which is south of Tokyo. There she worked at the Yodobashi Umeda Global Flagship store. At both stores, she was able to speak Nihongo (Japanese) and service customers, learn all operations, and train associates on all the correct procedures, while getting and giving constant feedback. UNIQLO is expanding in the United States. They currently have 3 locations in New York. As a store manager, Tiara helped open the 5th Ave. store, and was selected as one of three top managers asked to relocate and open a store in San Francisco. After this project, the plan is to open more stores in other major cities, in our country! In Tiara’s words, “My journey has been EVER-CHANGING! I have been blessed with some of the most amazing experiences that allowed me to travel overseas and work with world renowned designers, stylists, photographers, etc. As glamorous as it may sound, I have had my struggles; but, God has, and always will carry me through, in the name of Jesus Christ! Thank you, Lord!” Tiara’s Mantra: “ADAPT…the style is EVER-CHANGING!” By Mom, Dee Perry
