the HUNT....Hunting season comes again debbi saccomanno chan
the Hunt is a wordless book. i painted the two albums as continuous story paintings in folding albums. each album was done on rice paper in a traditional Chinese style and when unfolded the paintings were 70’ long...i needed a way for them to be exhibited. and one way was to publish the albums for you see.. i am not a hunter but moved from the bussling metropolis of Houston, Texas to a remote mountain area in wilds of Idaho. i watch year after year at summer’s end neighbors preparing for hunting season. in this area the hunt means survival for families who eat all year from the season’s catch and conservation as well. i found that the tags sold to hunters provide money for the conservation and protection of the same animals that would soon be hunted. and the number of any species hunted was strictly regulated according to numbers. if deer herds, for instance, are not naturally culled by predators or illness and old age, they grow too large and endanger the natural order.
