Press Coverage 11 Welcome to another edition of Outlook, your round-up of all the latest news and views from across IKON. This summer edition is packed with news, including our cover story. It’s not every day you get to see the IKON board directors in serving aprons and chef’s hats, but it was certainly a welcome site for hungry service staff in London recently! We’ve also won an award from Boots the retailer, hosted an exclusive event for the legal industry, and launched our environmentally-friendly, electric courier delivery service – see IKON’s first ‘electruc’ for yourself on page 5. Flick to page 14, and you’ll find out the who, when, where, why and how behind all our latest business wins, including the sale of our first Canon C7000 and the renewal of our multimillion pound BAE Systems contract. As usual we’re taking you behind the scenes in one part of the business, as part of the ‘Inside IKON’ series. This time Outlook visited Coulsdon to find out what’s new in IKON Remanufacturing (page 16). And finally, thanks to everyone who took part in the reader survey we sent out with the last edition. The responses that came back gave us some useful feedback that has hopefully made this newsletter even more enjoyable than the last. For one lucky reader, there’s also £50 worth of capital bonds on the way! Anyway, enough of the small talk, go get the goss’!

Promoting our services in geographical and vertical markets like legal, public sector, banking and manufacturing, is having marked success for IKON in 2008. This year, we’ve already enjoyed some major contract wins, including the extension of our relationship with Halifax Bank of Scotland (HBOS), and the renewal of our BAE Systems contract. As we predicted, the Production and Graphic Arts sector is growing rapidly this year and our dedicated PGA team and Professional Print Centre is well-placed to make the most of every opportunity as it arises. Exclusively branded, full-colour PGA business cards and marketing collateral is already making sure we stand out in the market place, along with IKON branded products like the CPP550. In the world of manufacturing, everyone wants to talk to IKON about our technology roadmap. It includes the Konica Minolta, and one of our flagship machines, the Canon C7000. Ricoh is also about to unveil a 90ppm product that we’re looking to evaluate and possibly even install, in the Document Services operation at Paul Street, London. The site has already had two new 1050’s installed recently as well as a new sales leader, Kevin O’Brien. The move is in line with our renewed focus and commitment to Document Services, and Kevin will be focused on re-energising and growing IKON’s BDS and LDS revenue streams. Investment in training is a long term commitment that has led us to the last phase of our PS training output strategy. IKON's e-learning system, iDOT, is now up and running and the new site offers many improvements including direct access and mobile support. We also expect to launch new sales portals for major clients in the near future. Our ability to provide and host a portal for sales and automated online call placing, was in fact, one of the things that set us apart from the competition in the BAE bid. This capability to tailor our offering to suit client needs is one of IKON’s main strengths. In the legal market we have just showcased our pioneering, single sign-on solution and this month has seen the launch of our environmentally-friendly courier service. The electric van is jointly funded by IKON and our client, Jones Lang LaSalle, and a great example of how we are listening to the voice of the customer and offering market-leading solutions to more of our clients.

News A round-up of the latest news and views from across IKON in the UK
Breakfast is served by the Board!
A full English breakfast served by members of the IKON UK Board was laid on for over 40 service technicians, call centre staff and administrators in London at 8.00am on Thursday 24th April. Rigged out in their serving aprons and chef hats, Phil Keoghan, Glenn Griggs, Paul Braham, Gary Downey and Marco Pezzani, played the dutiful hosts as they served up fried eggs, sausages, bacon and other traditional breakfast treats to a long line of hungry service staff. The idea came directly from the UK president, Phil Keoghan, as a way of celebrating the impressive feedback that came out of the recent Service road shows that took place up and down the UK. He says, “Since introducing the Regional Service Reviews our teams have been driven by a healthy competitiveness that has pushed customer service levels up, grown our revenue, and given us some great results to celebrate in Q3, 2008.”

First Global forum for Project Managers
Electric courier service launched
London Marathon 2008… team IKON does it again!
Project managers from our UK, US, Denmark, Germany and Netherlands offices came together in London on 12th March, for IKON’s first Global Project Management Forum.
IKON’s environmentally friendly courier service made its first road trip on June 10th, when it transported documents through London for our client Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL).
Congratulations to every IKON runner that took part and did so well to complete the Flora London Marathon 2008, on Sunday 13th April. Our runners joined over 34,000 people to make this year’s event the third largest in London Marathon history.
Delegates shared best practice, lessons learned and current project management approaches (US vs. Europe). The IKON Methodology Framework IMF (IKON’s own Project Management Methodology) was also re-launched by Christine Aguiar, of IKON’s US project management office.
The rechargeable electric van has been jointly sponsored by IKON with JLL, who have requested the courier service for mail runs between their Canary Wharf and Hanover Square sites in London.
IKON European Project Manager, Carl Halford, was supported by Rob Lucey in organising the event and says: “The forum was a great success and provided ample opportunity for knowledge sharing and networking – we definitely hope to repeat it on a regular basis.”
Teamworking at the PM forum
Special thanks also go to the fantastic IKON team that made sure our service as official document equipment provider to the London Marathon, was first class for the 19th year running! We handled everything from the planning and distribution of office equipment, to the printing of the Official Race Results at our Print Centre in Paul Street, throughout the event. Thanks to everyone from IKON who helped to make this year’s London Marathon a fantastic event! See you all at the next one, in 2009! Official Race Times for Team IKON
Manufactured by electruc, the van has excellent green credentials and is low cost, carbon-neutral, with tax and congestion charge exemption. IKON Managing Director of Sales, Glenn Griggs says: “The electric courier service is a great addition to IKON’s print and mail management services, and an example of how we are listening to the voice of the customer and offering marketleading solutions to more of our clients.”

IKON wins retail supplier award
IKON showcases pioneering legal solution
Sales lead payouts get bigger!
Chris Johnson Memorial Golf Tournament 2008
Boots the retailer, named IKON as its ‘most improved supplier’ at its Nottingham headquarters in April, where UK President Phil Keoghan, was presented with an award.
A pioneering single sign-on document management solution for law firms was showcased by IKON at an exclusive event in Reynolds Porter Chamberlain’s Tower Bridge Headquarters, on Monday 28th April.
More money is being paid for every successful sales lead generated, after an increase in fixed payment values took effect on 1st June 2008.
Colleagues of the late Chris Johnson, who worked at IKON’s Coulsdon workshop, competed in the sixth annual Golf Tournament in his memory on 26th April, at the Chelsfield Lakes Golf Course in Kent.
The award recognises IKON’s success in delivering managed print services for Boots head office and approximately 2000 of its satellite stores throughout the UK, since 1982. We beat several major suppliers to the accolade after meeting criteria outlined in the Boots Contract Managed Services Development Framework, introduced by the retailer, in 2007. IKON’s proactive approach included making a DVD to demonstrate our managed print services, before showcasing it on an LCD screen in the staff pavilion area of Boots’ headquarters. David White, is part of IKON’s on-site team at Boots, and says: “Making the DVD definitely helped us to stand apart from the competition and gave us the opportunity to inform some of the 3000 staff working at Boots’ head office about the service we provide for them behind the scenes, every day.”
The RPC account is managed by John Chambers in IT Managed Services and is the first leading law firm to install a single sign-on, swipe card system that gives users instant authentication to multiple desktop applications including eCopy, Copitrak and Outlook. Guests at the event were leading IT figures from across the legal industry, including guest speaker Julie Berry, IT Director, at Reynolds Porter Chamberlain LLP. IKON Marketing Director, Gary Downey, led the event and says: “Working with a forward-thinking law firm like RPC has been a great experience for IKON, and we are proud to have developed a solution that is setting the standard most law firms are aspiring to.”
Under the new scheme you can earn anything between £30 and £500 for a single segment opportunity, with a maximum payout of £1,000 available for multiple product installs. The only exception will be OGC. Any leads generated under this public sector contract umbrella, will be worth 50% of the standard segment value. These welcome increases in fixed payments follow improvements to Sales2000 that have made all valid leads a recorded and predictable prospect. The critical changes have also enabled the processing of payments based on what was sold rather than the lead that was identified. Other improvements include updating submitter profiles and supplying their name and contact details to sales with the lead. This is intended to encourage better communication and feedback between sales and the lead submitter.
Chris sadly passed away in November 2002, aged just 32. He was a keen golfer and good friend to all in the workshop at Coulsdon. This year’s winner of the coveted memorial trophy was Jim Chacksfield, with second and third places going to Mark Wishart and Gary Willis respectively. Lowest score of the day went to Simon Willis with an impressive 80, and ‘worst shot of the day’ to Kieron Lee! Richard West helped organise the event and says: “My thanks go to all those who took part this year, Kevin Elmore for helping with the arrangements, our friends at Ricoh for supplying the main prize, and Chris Brunger at Canon, who with Gordon Clark supplied many other prizes.”

Paul Street revamped!
Pauline Wolna and Elijah Adom at work
The arrival of two PCP1050’s, a new Sales Director, Trend Reporting Analysis and Communication (TRAC) software, and the launch of a Professional Print Centre has revitalised IKON’s Document Services centre in Paul Street.
With its new tools in place, the London site is expected to enjoy process and revenue improvements over the coming months. The IKON PCP1050’s have replaced a 12-year old Xerox machine and represent an opportunity to keep all ‘click’ revenue in-house. Increased revenue is also being generated by Sales Director, Kevin O’Brien, who is targeting additional business from new and existing customers. To track all the anticipated customer spend Paul Street has welcomed its first computerised booking-in software, TRAC, on 1st June. Work in progress, sales and stock control can now be tracked with the push of a button to provide a clear audit trail for the whole site. Customers are already noting the difference. Sainsburys has been using Paul Street’s new board mounting machine to produce its foam backed training materials, and Ipsos MORI has transferred all of its survey fulfilment to IKON, along with three of its staff. The IKON Professional Print Centre Steve Cook is pleased to see the back of the old Xerox!
Double bubble for service engineers
Introducing… the new IKON National Bid Team
It’s a knockout!
An extra pay day arrived in March, for the 12 service engineers who generated leads that were successfully converted to sales during the Canon ‘double bubble’ incentive.
The UK National Bid Team is behind some of IKON’s biggest business wins and has been transformed recently, with the departure of two long-standing members and addition of four new recruits.
Game for a laugh IKON staff from Maidstone competed in an ‘it’s a knockout’ style tournament for charity on Sunday 18th May, in a Kent showground.
Between October and December 2007, every lead that turned into a Canon sale, instantly generated twice the commission for IKON service engineers. An additional reward of £50 in Bonus Bonds was also paid for every lead converted to a Canon sale.
Based in Cowcross Street, London and led by Laurence Greenhow, the busy team of five now includes two Bid Managers, Louise Gregory and Caroline Ley, Bid Support Assistant, Angela Brennan and Bid Administrator, Jessica Steer. Between them, they provide a sales support service that assists in getting vital, professional tender documents out the door, in time to bid for new business.

IKON competed against a raft of other local businesses in the fun day that was organised to raise money for the Children Today, charity. Our nine-strong team included Nigel Titcombe, Chris Beck, John Taylor, Lee Carter, Luke Fowler, Mark Sanderson, Richard Viney, Sarah Cundy, Scott Baldwin and Sarah Evans. The event itself was a real tribute to the original 1970’s style TV tournament, and teams spent all their time dodging buckets of soapy water, flying sponges and doing 3-legged relays in oversized costumes! Nigel Titcombe was among those who got a good soaking in the heats and says: “It was a real laugh and a great crowd turned out to see us making a fool of ourselves and raising around £800 for charity at the same time!”
With a dedicated library of IKON statistical and technical information, case studies, pictures and accreditations, the bid team can add instant weight to pitches for larger value or strategic opportunities. Team Leader, Laurence Greenhow says: “In the next quarter, we are looking at implementing software to assist the first draft response time and offer a consistent document approach… watch this space!” To enlist the National Bid Team’s help produce persuasive, articulate and compelling tenders, e-mail: UKNationalBidteam@ikon.com

World Environment Day 2008
Print industry flocks to flagship event
Test drives of hybrid electric cars and a mobile phone harvest, marked IKON’s second year of supporting the UNEPs (United Nations Environmental Programme), on Thursday 5th June.
When the print industry flocked to the 14th Drupa exhibition, in Düsseldorf, Germany, in May, IKON’s Production and Graphic Arts specialists escorted select clients to the event, for the first time.
As well as raising general awareness and putting a simple carbon calculator on the intranet, IKON donated your unused or nonworking mobile phones ti charity. These have now been sent to support good causes including Seeds for Africa, who can raise up to £5.00 for every recycled handset. Test drives of hybrid electric, G-Wiz cars were also offered to staff in London and Coulsdon and related directly to this year’s World Environment Day theme ‘Co2, kick the habit’. Bob Jones, IKON’s European Environmental Manager organised the events on June 5th and says: “Thanks to everyone that supported our World Environment Day activities this year and helped IKON to succeed in offering local charity support, green aware-ness and recycling, all at the same time!”

Special Recognition Awards Meet the latest employees to recognised for outstanding performance
When an unusual problem with a series of recently sold devices caused a spate of customer complaints, IKON Customer Service Technician, Dave Cooper, fixed the fault before deals in excess of £100,000 were cancelled. Other technicians had no luck in trying to diagnose the faults which were affecting customers in the Midlands. Dave came in at the eleventh hour and found the fault that was causing a distinct image shift on the high-speed, digital colour machines.

Brian Islin, BAE Systems Account Manager As IKON’s dedicated BAE Account Manager, Brian Islin has spent the last two years securing the renewal of our multi-million pound contract with the global defence and aerospace company. The contract renewal is worth around £2.5million a year, over a five year term and involves the installation of over 1850 machines across the UK. As the main point of contact between IKON and the customer, Brian has been integral in identifying and resolving issues that stood between us and our goal of extending a good relationship with a key client. Steve Algeo, IKON’s Group Financial Controller, worked with Brian on the BAE contract and says: “Brian has lived and breathed the BAE contract for the last two years of his life and his work was fundamental to IKON winning the contract renewal.”

IKON Regional Sales Manager, Stuart Chown, says: “By taking on the problem and tackling it with patience and technical skill, Dave saved at least three deals that were in their first 30-day period.” The dedicated technician has also written an instruction guide on how to cure the problem which has been distributed to IKON’s Regional Sales Managers and local technicians.
Sales Incentives
Phil Keoghan and Glenn Griggs presenting award to Brian Islin

Coulsdon… Remanufacturing – but not as you know it! Dedicated pre-configuration site opens in Purley Way Demand is now so great for IKON’s pre-configuration services that a dedicated centre has been opened in Surrey – initially to meet the requirements of our contract with HP and the high street bank, HSBC.
Gordon Clark Head of Operations Europe and Director of Remanufacturing
Think you know what IKON Remanufacturing does? Think again. For over 30 years, the IKON Remanufacturing Plant in Coulsdon has been known for providing customers with high quality, low cost alternatives to newly manufactured equipment. Now it’s time to forget what you’ve already seen and heard about IKON Remanufacturing, as Gordon Clark’s team has diversified with a whole host of new support services. Outlook went inside IKON Coulsdon, to bring you the main headlines…
Head of Operations Europe and Director of Remanufacturing, Gordon Clark, says, “In this half year, if everything falls into place, we will be producing about 17,500 units purely on configuration. The centre is there to help us meet this demand and expand rapidly if we need to.”
Our pre-configuration team is also often in Denmark, Germany, Italy and Switzerland now, strengthening IKON’s presence in Europe and making sure that all of our equipment is installed and invoiced on time. DOSA auditors in demand across Europe The Document Output Strategy Assessment (DOSA) auditing specialists at Coulsdon will go anywhere to bring IKON clients a thorough and complete picture of
their technology and how it can be improved. Of this service, Gordon Clark says, “After walking the floors of a client’s business, Will Clay and the team will present a complete asset record, before assessing and recommending the best print solution." The team is currently making an impact across Europe and have completed audits in Spain, Strasbourg in France, Germany and in Denmark for our client, international food producer, Danish Crown. “In this half year, if everything falls into place, we will be producing about 17,500 units purely on configuration. The centre is there to help us meet this demand and expand rapidly if we need to.” IKON technicians produce ID cards for Africa Together with De La Rue Identity Systems - the world’s leading commercial currency production company - IKON has been assisting the Senegal Government in producing identification cards for the country’s entire population. We shipped equipment and technicians to Senegal to set up the production line and train local workers. IKON Project Manager, Gordon Clark says, “We were approached for our technical expertise rather than remanufacturing capability and the project
project was a success in Senegal, with 16 million ID cards produced. IKON has now been asked to help produce ID cards for Rwanda, and we’re also looking at producing 2530 million ID cards for Angola.” First IKON-manufactured EPOS system piloted for River Island Not satisfied with merely installing and maintaining electronic point of sale (EPOS) systems, IKON in Coulsdon has now manufactured our own version of the retail software. The EPOS system was configured, then trialled at River Island in Canary Wharf. Gordon Clark says, “We decided to manufacture our own EPOS system and give it back to River Island as a freebie, to gauge their reaction. They were so pleased with the results that we have been asked to supply more equipment.” Clients clamour for bespoke hardware branding When Perfect Homes requested equipment sprayed in their corporate colours, IKON remanufacturing stripped and re-sprayed a sample laptop in their house colour of bright mauve. “The results were fantastic,” reports Gordon Clark. “It wouldn’t normally be possible to get a house colour but we did it with ICI colour matching, so we know it’s exact. We’ve already branded 300 of their machines and have clients from the US calling to request the same service.”
ISO 14001 Environmental Accreditation won in record time Since dedicated IKON Environmental Manager for Europe, Bob Jones, arrived at Coulsdon over a year ago, the plant’s green credentials have sky-rocketed. He says, “Week on week, environmental credentials are changing but with strict working practices in place, we earned our ISO 14001 accreditation in just six months, when it usually takes up to two years.” Smart metering now measures energy use and the amount of waste going to landfill has been reduced, along with the site’s overall carbon footprint. These stories are just the latest developments from Coulsdon. Besides all this, the fundamental IKON business is still doing what it’s always done and turning out around 1000 pristine, remanufactured copiers, printers and vending machines a month. With a loyal team of technicians that are all from engineering backgrounds, a new Environmental Manager to support the operation and a leader that is determined to develop the business’s additional services, you’ll all be hearing a whole lot more from Coulsdon in the future.

IKONstore became a stockist of a newly launched range of Ricoh printers in April. The GelSprinter range is a family of colour desktop printers and now, desktop MFD’s, based on Liquid Gel technology.
In the March edition of Outlook we asked you to complete and return a short questionnaire, to let us know what you think of the newsletter. Thank you to every one who responded – all your replies were placed in a prize draw to win £50 worth of Capital Bonds and the winner is: Stephen G Jones, an IKON Warranty Supervisor in Runcourn. Congratulations!

IKON’s got talent!
HP Large Format Over 3000 IKON customers were targeted as part of a promotional drive to launch our new large format offering in April. IKON’s large format range includes a mixture of Canon and HP solutions that make printing, scanning, archiving and copying full colour graphics and technical drawings easy. The new offering will be pushed out through the PGA teams and targeted specifically at the Technical and Graphics markets. The direct marketing and electronic direct marketing campaign in April targeted existing large format, high volume black and white, and full colour users.
eCopy
We’re sure you’ve all seen or heard about the TV talent contest that is judged by Simon Cowell, and currently scouring Britain for talent. Jackie Green, a Business Analyst in Coulsdon is obviously a fan, as she’s kindly put forward an idea for our very own IKON version.
In the last edition we asked for your suggestions to find a new name for the IKON staff newsletter. Unfortunately our favourite has already been used for IKON branding, so we’re still open to ideas. Keep them coming in folks and remember there’s £50 worth of capital bonds up for grabs if we use your suggestion.
So, if you have the talent to think of a new IKON working process, promotional event, customer advertisement, or anything else, then we want to hear from you. If there’s enough interest, we’ll run competition heats at individual branches, followed by a UK final judged by our very own panel and Simon Cowell-equivalent! Send your thoughts to: dhatch@ikon.com .
IKON on tour - we’re everywhere! Rob Townsend, an IT Business analyst working in Coulsdon, spotted the IKON sign at a ski resort called Big White in Canada, earlier this year…and again at a second resort called Silver Star.
Newly updated versions of eCopy are now available and have realigned the brand to the mid-range solutions market where customer value and affordability are the main drivers. Three distinct offerings now characterise the eCopy product line: Desktop, ShareScan Essentials and ShareScan Suite. Each compliment’s the other, making the eCopy document capture and delivery system even better at enabling IKON customers to integrate paper documents into digital workflows. The beauty of eCopy is its easy integration with other technology and it has recently formed an integral part of IKON’s groundbreaking single sign-on solution for law firms, along with Copitrak and Ricoh MFD’s.
