FROM THE DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT especially at higher grade levels where participation rates are lower and results are less clear. These results when combined with teacher feedback and other measures provide a more complete picture of student progress. Redmond School District is committed to supporting our students and teachers in the new standards and assessments. We are proud of the district’s progress and will continue to focus resources on supporting growth for all students in their journey toward college and career. Parents are essential to a child’s success. By working together with your student’s teachers and your school principal, you can identify ways of supporting your child both in and outside the classroom. Redmond School District is honored to have your partnership in this very important work of ensuring success for every student.

Dear Parents and Community Members, All students deserve an education that prepares them for their next steps in life whether that’s going to college or starting a career. Redmond School District is committed to providing a high quality, rigorous education to ensure that each student is on the path to success. In addition to a strong offering of core subjects, the district provides Career and Technical Education options for students in both middle and high school. Students can elect to take courses in subjects like technology, marketing, computer coding, manufacturing, culinary arts, video production, business, agriculture, engineering, and construction, to name a few. The Oregon Department of Education has released Smarter Balanced Assessment scores from the 20152016 school year. This statewide assessment is just one of several ways we measure student achievement. We are pleased that Redmond School District students are generally scoring higher than last year in Oregon’s new Smarter Balanced Assessment. However, our scores may not be representative of all students required to test,

Thank you, Superintendent | Michael McIntosh

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Community Members, This annual report card is issued by the Oregon Department of Education and provides a detailed picture of the first year of Smarter Balanced testing data from the 201516 school year. Scores on this report card represent a new baseline and provide a clearer picture about where our students are on their path to college and career readiness. These scores help our students, their teachers, and you understand more about our strengths and areas for improvement so learning gaps can be addressed. We will continue our persistence to help ensure that all Tumalo Community School students and teachers rise to the challenge. Academic highlights: · 92% of 5th grade students met/exceeded their OAKS science assessment · All 3rd8th grade students scored above the state average on ELA SBAC · 3rd grade students scored 30% higher than the state average in ELA. · 6th grade students scored 21% higher than the state average in ELA. · All 3rd5th and 6th & 8th grades scored above the state average on Math SBAC

· 3rd grade students scored 30% higher than the state average in math. · 6th grade students scored 29% higher than the state average in math. · SBACELA growth percentile moved up from 48% to 63% in 20152016 · SBACmath growth percentile moved up from 49% to 58% in 20152016 Our staff worked incredibly hard to improve academic supports and systems to better meet the needs of our students and address Common Core State Standards. I believe this hard work and effort coupled with our student’s perseverance was demonstrated by our students achievement and growth on their Smarter Balanced Assessments. We will continue to focus on the academic growth of every student while staying true to our philosophy of educating the whole child and working to meet the academic, social and behavioral needs of every student. We promise to deliver the same excellence you have come to expect from us at Tumalo Community School while working to improve our instruction in ways that impact student growth and achievement. FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Community Members, This report card is issued by the Oregon Department of Education. Obsidian Middle School is committed to providing a quality education for all students and working hard to ensure that our students are college and career ready. Smarter Balanced is a new test aligned to our higher standards. The tests challenge students, go beyond multiple choice, and provides all students the opportunity to demonstrate what they know and can do. This information is used as one of many data points when collaborating in teams, designing relative lesson plans, and providing meaningful formative and summative assessments. Our goal is to provide opportunities that allow students to grow both academically and individually. Student growth is our top priority and we have implemented resources to help students reach their true potential. Obsidian Middle School utili es the common core standards in all content areas when designing lessons and assessments. Computer

software programs are available for intervention and enrichment in both Math and English Language Arts. Strategy classes target students who struggle in Math and English Language Arts. Students can also take Advanced Math classes in both 7th and 8th grade as well as Advanced English Language Arts in 8th grade. Obsidian’s Wolf Pack works hard to create programs and find resources to meet the needs of every single student that enters our doors. You can help by communicating with your student s teachers, monitoring your student’s academic progress (through ParentVUE), and supporting us with an ALL IN CAN DO attitude. We look forward to partnering with you to make success possible for your student Thank you, Principal | Tami Nakamura

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Community Members, This report card issued by the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) continues to change annually. There are again no school ratings for the 201516 school year, just like the previous report card. This is due to Oregon continuing to adapt to the new standards and higher expectations as demonstrated on our new state assessment for 11th graders, the SMARTER BALANCED Assessment (SBA), as well as the new state assessment opt out law. Across the state and here in Redmond, we had many more students opt out of taking the state assessment. As a result, this report card will not and does not accurately reflect our school’s collective college and career readiness, literacy or math achievement scores. This year’s report works to represent our student’s college readiness in literacy and math, unlike the old school report cards which represented high school performance standards This year the SBA scores (level 3 & 4 scores) represent college and career readiness . The old ratings on the OAKS assessment measure something completely different. On the previous state assessment, OAKS, a student would meet high school standards with a score of 236. The equivalent high school standard score on SBA is somewhere in the middle of a level 2 score. This equivalency score is well below the college and career readiness score now required.

As a result, we have mixed feelings about our SBAC scores. In the area of literacy, for the students who completed the state assessments, the results were that 66.7% (2/3rds) of our students are ready for college reading and writing at the end of their junior year. The problem with this percentage is if a student did not take an assessment or opted out that student counts as a level 1 . The reason for the percentage decrease from the previous group of students who took the SBA the first year is hard to identify. For the students who completed the math SBA assessment, the math results were that 33.7% of our tested students are ready for college math at the end of their junior year. This is actually an 5% increase from the previous group of students who took SBAC the first year. To reali e continued growth, we began focusing last year on more deep learning and complex problem solving. We are also focusing on students taking more responsibility for their education through targeted, effective teaching and learning strategies we are teaching through our schoolwide AVID system. We will continue to move forward in these efforts. We will continue to deliver the excellence you have come to expect from Ridgeview High School. Thank you, Principal | Lee Loving
