'FEMMANIA' by

YULIYA DAN

Yuliya Dan A visual artist, a daughter of post-soviet union, a femmaniac, a woman. From the age of 13 she lived on her own in various places: Barcelona, Tokyo, Osaka, Taipei, Guangzhou, New York, Cape Town and London. She worked as a fashion model, and a part time journalist. Traveling, exploring, soaking in the experiences. Learning about art, humanity, ethics, morality, theology and social behavior. From an early age she was fascinated by gender differences and basic instincts. Through studying and redefining female sexuality, she began to shape a practical philosophy – Femmania, which is the central theme of her art. What it really means, to be “HER” in a post-feminist, oversexed, yet asexual world. She works with ink and calligraphy pen, influenced by her early years in Japan. The center of her painting is a woman. She explores “HER”. How understanding and embracing female sexuality can influence “HER” life, how it reflects on success and power relations within society, benefits her mentally, physically and socially. Her “women” are about facing the duality of each and every choice they are forced to make. She explores the female nature from “her” first orgasm, through her entire womanhood. Therefore it’s about every woman.
