WORK EXPERIENCE & TESTAMONIALS Daisy Green: Events Photographer June 2008- 2010 Traveling the UK with the Daisy Green team documenting fashion shows & ʻSwishingʼ events taking editorial photographs for articles. I have produced work through Daisy Green for The Big Wardrobe and Grazia magazine, Paris at various ʻSwishingʼ events. Documented functions include the FaCshion show, London, The Ethical Extravaganza & As You Like It, Newcastle. “We have been working with Lucy since July 2009. We met at the Newcastle Green Festival and we immediately taken by her enthusiasm. She has travelled around the country with us as our events photographer, and has always produced a professional portfolio of images that we have published on our online, womens magazine. Lucy is friendly, helpful and talented. She has listened to our own unique needs and always fulfils what is required of her. We would have no hesitation is asking Lucy to join us on a permanent basis once she has finished her studies. Lucy is very much part of the Daisy team, and we would recommend her to anyone”. - Nicola Alexander, Founder, Daisy Green Magazine
Roach Productions: Documentary Photographer Summer 2009 I worked behind the scenes on up and coming Leeds band Chickenhawk I hate this, do you like it? Working closely with NME photographer Danny North and the Roach Productions team I documented all the action throughout the making of the video and did various jobs such as taking portrait photographs of all the zombie extras for the make up artists & also live footage of Matt Reid naked in a bathroom, which was fun. “When we were looking for a photographer we didnʼt just want to get anyone, as the photos would be part of the history of our company. Lucy was the perfect addition to our team. Not only is she a joy to have on set with a constant flow of positive energy, but also her work ethic is fantastic. Being able to have someone on set who can work hard under their own steam invaluable to us at roach. Top that with a sharp, creative mind and an eye for shots that simply cannot be taught, Lucy is a brilliant addition to our team and I canʼt sing her praises enough”.
- Kyle James Patrick, Producer, Roach Productions Pennant Books - Illustrator, Summer 2009 I liaised with Paul Woods, editor of Pennant Books Ltd, to discuss and develop book cover ideas and produced a range of covers and typography for ʻThe Book of Outrageous Rock Quotes.ʼ My caricatureʼs were published onto the cover design. The book is available at all good book stores. “I found Lucyʼs inventiveness and flexibility exactly what we needed for the cover of The Book of Outrageous Rock Quotes by Paul Goodwin. In point of fact her visual ideas went much further, parodying psychedelic 60s album covers in a manner which the bookʼs format was slightly too small to accommodate. But maybe thatʼs one for the future …” - Paul Woods, Editor, Pennant Books Ltd.
Reference for Lucy Alexandra Howson Dear Sir/Madam, As Head of Arts Development for ArtForms, I line-managed Lucy Howson during her time in the role of Photographer and Marketing Assistant with our service. This role was a time limited contract (for 6 months) but during this time Lucy was involved with all aspects of our work and became an invaluable member of the team. We are a busy service with a remit to support Music and Arts Development with over 250 schools in Leeds. Lucy was required to visit projects in schools and events around the city to document activity and produce images for use in our publicity and on our website. She had to be aware of consent legislation and ensure any images we used had the appropriate documentation completed and filed for future reference. During the time Lucy was with the service we held two large scale events, a regional Arts & Education Conference, for over 300 delegates, soon followed by a Community Music event which attracted over 150 musicians ranging from aged 8 to 80. Lucy played a vital role in creating publicity materials for both of these events. She designed posters, fliers, logos, signage and maps for the venue as well as catalogues and PowerPoint presentations. She also acted as technical and front of house support on both days and documented the events as a photographer. She worked well under pressure and against tight deadlines to support the successful implementation of these two key events. Lucy is bright and creative, if she is given clear tasks which have an agreed timeline she will deliver high quality outcomes. She responds well to other people's ideas and can translate them effectively at the same time as offering very creative solutions of her own. She is happy to adapt work in progress and amend it in response to feedback, she works quickly and has a wide range of creative skills and expertise in various design software. She is also a quick learner and will naturally learn new programmes or processes where required for the job. Lucy has a friendly, outgoing personality with a good sense of humour, she developed good working relationships with other members of the service. She is very capable of working independently but will also work well as part of a team. She thrives in a creative environment and will bring a positive energy and innovative ideas to future working environments. Despite not being in a position to extend Lucy's formal contract with us - we did employ her on a freelance basis for several more pieces of work beyond her 6 month contract with us. I am very happy to recommend Lucy for work within the Creative Industries or Cultural and Education Sectors, she has a passion for the arts and an interest in making a difference through her work.
