Decatur Park District Earns State Awards! In Fall 2013, the Decatur Park District once again earned two IAPD Best of the Best awards! Scovill Zoo partner Team Soy Capital received the Best Friend of Illinois Parks award for their decades of support for Park District arts, golf, and sports programs. As presenting partner of Scovill Zoo, Team Soy has enabled the zoo to make important enhancements and complete construction on an exciting new penguin exhibit. Herald & Review reporter Allison Petty was honored as Illinois Parks’ Top Journalist for preparing countless stories and designing an online parks map, photo gallery, and article library during her 3-year tenure on the Park District beat. Her articles about Scovill Zoo, the Lakeshore Landing project, and the 2013 Master Plan process have helped raise awareness of the importance and impact of the Decatur Park District.

We Care about Your Safety The Decatur Park District cares about the safety of our visitors and strives to ensure that playground equipment, park grounds and facilities remain in excellent condition. Please help us in this effort! Follow posted safety rules and note age designations for appropriate use of playground equipment. Insurance While the Park District is committed to conducting recreation programs and activities in the safest manner possible, an inherent risk of injury exists with any recreational activity. The Decatur Park District does not carry medical accident insurance for injuries sustained on its property or in its programs, as the cost of such insurance would make program fees cost-prohibitive. ADA Accessibility Survey The 6-volume ADA Accessibility document completed by Recreation Accessibility Consultants may be viewed at the Administrative Office, 620 E. Riverside Ave. For more information, contact Mandy Childress at 422-5911.

Schaub Floral Display Center

Sportsman’s Park w 421-7550 Hours: 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. daily Visitors to the Schaub Floral Display Center in Sportsman’s Park will find a stunning array of tulips, hyacinth, and daffodils from early March to late April. The summer display from mid-May to late August will feature a variety of exotic begonias, orchids, and tropical plants. Seasonal displays are one of the many attractions at the Floral Display Center, made possible through grants and a generous gift from the Lindsay-Schaub newspapers and Robert D. Schaub. Thanks to a wonderful contribution from the Schaub family in 2013, the Park District has begun construction on the Norma Schaub Memorial Garden just north of the floral display building. The goal is to make the center a destination, both inside and out, with shade trees, native grasses, annual and perennial flowers, benches, and a water feature. It is Alesia and Howard Schaub’s dream that the Norma Schaub Memorial Garden will become a destination place for all in the community to take pictures for special events and hold small weddings. Stay tuned for details regarding a ribbon cutting this spring!
