July 4 w 10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. w Nelson Park Nelson Park will be filled with all makes and models of cars in the 3rd Annual Richie Hammel Fore on the Floor Car Show, which memorializes Decatur’s golf legend Richie Hammel. All proceeds benefit the Decatur Chapter of First Tee Golf. For sponsorship information or registration details, please call 422-5911.

Decatur Park District Scholarships Fun for All Scholarships The Decatur Park District recognizes that financial assistance may be required for some individuals to participate in Park District programs. A Fun for All financial assistance program has been established for Decatur residents. Eligibility is based upon family size and income level and is awarded without regard to race, color, religion, age, disability or national origin. For more information, call Becky Newton at 422-5911. The Jerry Menz Scholarship The Jerry Menz Arts Scholarship provides opportunities for talented youth to succeed at the highest possible levels in the arts by offering scholarships for the Park District’s programs in voice, music, theatre and dance. Zoo Education Scholarships Scovill Zoo’s education programs offer opportunities for animal lovers of all ages to discover the animal kingdom. Limited scholarships are available. This summer, spend time with your friends at the DISC’s activity-filled camp that combines nature, recreation and sports! Designed for youth aged 5 - 11, Spectacular Summer Day Camp helps you develop new skills while playing sports, taking field trips, and participating in fun activities.

Don’t miss our fun theme days, including Boot Camp Day, Ice Cream Sundae Day, Wild West Day, Christmas in July, Willy Wonka Day, and Halloween in July! Join us!


4 Create-a-Camp: Arts & Swimming

Create-a-Camp Option

Create-a-camp by adding on your favorite Park District programs like Zoo Kids, Zoo Crew, First Tee golf, swim lessons, B.O.S.S., Greater Decatur Youth Band, and Greater Decatur Summer Strings! Transportation for Summer Day Camp and Teen Club participants is provided free of charge to and from other Park District activities. Sign up to add all of your favorite programs to your camp experience. Registration is quick and easy at the DISC, 1295 W. Wood, or online, www.decatur-parks.org.

Swim Lessons

June 3 - 28 If you’re looking for top-notch orchestra instruction, join the Greater Decatur Summer Strings program! Summer Strings allows youth in grades 1 - 9 to enhance their skills and perform at special events. Instructed by Jason Zimmerman. All sessions meet Monday - Thursday. June 5 - August 3 Students in grades 5 - 10 can tune up with friends in the Greater Decatur Youth Band. This program is designed for instrumentalists who are looking for superior summer instruction and a chance to perform at various special events. Dr. Gary Shaw, Millikin University Director of Bands, directs.

Best of Summer Stock (B.O.S.S.)

June 17 - July 28 Participants will sing, dance and act as they bring a musical to life! Actors will learn teamwork, musical theatre technique, and skills in preparation for an exciting final show with sets, costumes, props and lights. Each camp is directed by our professional, experienced musical theatre staff. The program is directed by Marie Jagger-Taylor. Registration ends June 7.

June 21 - July 17 Take part in the Park District’s Dance & Drama Camp! Classes are available for beginners to advanced, preschool to adult. Ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, lyrical, modern, and theatre classes will be offered in 4-week sessions. For more information, call Ms. Megan at 421-6648, ext. 3. July 22 - 29 Sing and dance with the Decatur Park Singers! Participants in grades 1st - 7th will learn choreography and lyrics to perform on stage at the Park Singers concert at Mueller Park on July 29! Tickets for B.O.S.S. performances may be purchased starting July 1 at the Park District office (620 E. Riverside) or online (decatur-parks.org). Cost is just $7.00 for reserved seats at the Civic Center Theatre. Tickets will also be available at the door one hour prior to show times.

Learn life lessons through the game of golf with the nationally acclaimed First Tee program!

In this exciting week-long educational program, at Scovill Zoo, children (aged 7 - 8) will explore the five senses and learn how animals use each to survive.

Zoo Camp

A week-long adventure awaits you! Kids aged 9 - 10 will explore the importance of food webs to all ecosystems.

First Tee Golf Camp

Zoo Crew

Zoo Crew is a hands-on educational experience that involves classroom instruction, interaction with animals, and time outdoors. Participants (aged 11 - 13) will learn about unique animals and zoo ecology.

June 3 - 6, 8:45 - 11 a.m. Get into the swing of golf with this 4-day, week-long camp! Beginners focus on coordination, simple techniques and motor skills. More advanced players take their swing to the next level, with golf pros on hand to further develop each individual’s game.

Zoo Crew & Zoo Teens participants can conclude their summer experience at Scovill Zoo with a Zoo Safari that includes extra adventures and activities such as visits to other Central Illinois zoos and nature centers!

Tennis Ten and Under Tennis with USTA

June 4 - July 23 or June 6 - July 25 Ten and Under will divide courts into segments and allow youth aged 6 - 10 to use smaller areas, smaller nets, and youth-friendly racquets.

Beginner Tennis

June 3 - July 24 This class is designed for players aged 11 - 12 and meets twice a week for 1 hour. Learn a new sport and make great new friends!

Teen Tennis

June 3 - July 24 Teens (aged 13 - 18) can improve their tennis skills twice a week. Junior Lifeguard classes begin in June. Call 429-3472!

June 11 - August 1 9 - 10:30 a.m. Interactive classes with Park District golf pros are designed to help kids with their form and fundamentals.

Paul’s & Dunn’s Teen Nights! June 7 & August 9, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Students in grades 6 - 12 will enjoy a fun-filled evening with snacks, pop and pizza, a DJ, and unlimited mini golf and batting cages. Price is $5/person (excluding concessions). Snacks, pop, and pizza will be available for an additional fee. Students must show school ID or be signed in by a parent. Pick-up is at 8:30 p.m.; for their safety, students will not be allowed to walk home without a parent note.
